Not great. The school's website and staff appeared to misrepresent what the school's strengths and…read moreweaknesses were. The website says they have won awards for being good with kids who have special needs - they were not good with my son, who was just diagnosed with ADHD. The parent manual says they work with parents if kids have trouble in the classroom. They did not work with us, although the director did tell me that they worked with another child for a year until he went to kindergarten and ended up bringing a knife to kindergarten. It seemed like they favor kids who have been there for a long time or whose parents they know, I'm not sure. They did not appear willing to work with our son's therapist to develop a plan for our son, either. The director told us, "sticker charts don't work." I also didn't feel like they did much "teaching." My son did not do one worksheet during his time here. I did not see any educational work coming home. The children in his class seemed to bully a lot for such young kids. They called our son a cry baby and made fun of him for calling his mom "mama." The teacher is very experienced, but she appeared to be worn out or overwhelmed. The facilities are inviting but seem crowded and less than pristine. On the positive side, I will say that my son had fun with a lot of the activities they did, such as the summer luau. The director is pretty good at communicating with parents, even though I felt that she was either biased or dishonest in her communications with me. Bottom line? If your child is a fairly easy kid, and you aren't too focused on your child getting the best educational environment you can find, this school might work for you. If your kid is hyper or challenging like mine, this might not be your first choice.

Another dad, getting into his car, recognized my feelings and reassured me with a smile and "Don't worry. Pretty soon it will feel like family!" He was right. The Octopus Garden has become all three of my children's home-away-from-home. They feel safe. They are loved. They learn. They have good friends. It's a preschool where manners and kindness are taught along with the ABCs and 123s. It is a very special place, a place that is governed by Love. Now when I drop my kids off at The Octopus Garden, they run in happy! They are greeted with smiles and hugs and everyone is eager to begin the day. Each week they are introduced to new concepts, books, activities and are fed healthy meals. The dedicated teachers at The Octopus Garden have become our true allies in parenting. They are our friends and they do indeed feel like our family. My husband and I are comforted with the knowledge that our kids are being provided with the same care and kindness that we provide in our home. We feel so blessed to have The Octopus Garden as our preschool!

I found La Petite Ecole on-line and upon researching further on the Texas Department of Protective…read moreServices, LPE has ZERO (0) violations. Not even a minor paperwork violation which I've seen at least once on every daycare I looked up on the website. We have visited three day cares and they either have a tuition that costs more than a mortgage, have a wait list that's out the wazoo, or sub-par rinky dinky. Our last visit was LPE and we were skeptical at first since the others were actual facilities. Katya was very nice, personable, and informative. She is a registered, licensed, in-home childcare center that specializes in infants and toddlers. Very low class ratio, exposure to French and Spanish, hot meals, and daily activities PLUS AFFORDABLE!! YAYY!!!! Being a first time mommy and daddy, we wanted the best for our daughter but also affordable. Since she is young, she needs attention and her needs met which LPE definitely does. While we were doing Q&A with Katya, the baby started getting fussy and Katya offered to hold her. Within about 10 minutes, the baby was asleep sitting up in her lap..it was too cute, lol. Our sweet baby was only 3 months old when she enrolled but she always went home a happy baby and well taken care of. There are no complaints and we hope that she will continue to love LPE as she gets older and that LPE is still great. Ms. Norma, the other caregiver, is also very sweet and takes care of the children very well (I've only seen toddlers and two babies).Every time that I have ever picked up the baby (at various times), I can tell you that the toddlers were always engaged in a creative or mind-stimulating activity with the exception: at the very, very end of the day, they are playing. UPDATE (8/21/15): We are still rolling along at LPE. Adriana is the current other caregiver and our almost-2 year old loves her. Katya is still doing great things also. My daughter can count from 1 to 10 (when she feels like it on a good day), figure out puzzles, knows a few French words, and a few Spanish words (and I teach her Vietnamese) and for some great reason, she doesn't get them all confused lol! They've taught her how to put up her toys, clean up, etc. Baby had a bad case of constipation (TMI, sorry) for a few months and Katya helped her with it one-on-one with natural remedies. That was a huge relief cause I didn't know what else to do. Now we are all good! UPDATE: Our last day was February 15, 2017. I was really sad but we had to move out of state. By this time, my daughter was 3.5. She knew her numbers in French and Spanish. She knew small phrases and words. She sang French songs. She could write her name and say the alphabet by age 2.5. I love LPE and I highly recommend MS. Katya and her staff!

Our relative told us about Tzu Chi, and after much consideration, we have decided to try them out. Truly what made the biggest difference, is that this place is as with how it's named, the people there genuinely care and show great deal of love and dedication. For the past year, I have not seen any turnover, and the teachers are amazing. We have Mrs Chang and Ms Julie and they are both the most caring and loving individuals. Sometimes I feel guilty for how much feedback they give me on what to work on with my child, that I ponder who is the one that actually truly have my child's best interest, me or his teachers... It pressures me to put just as much effort and dedication to the wellness of my child. The way how their curriculum works is that they have 2 days that they focus fully English, and 2 days that they focus fully Chinese, and then 1 day that is half and half. The emphasis of their learnings is not only on the educational aspects of things, but also showing respect, humidity, and appreciation. They have lots of hands on activities, such as - they had the kids make cookies and then they do fundraising events [cookie sales] to help with ie. the Nepal earthquakes and such. If you are not familiar with Tzu Chi, it's a large organization that does a lot of humanitarian work, and their teachings evolve around giving back, helping others... My son loves going to school, and love the food there [a lot more than my own cooking]. The director Mrs. Lin is wonderful and very attentive. All and all, I feel very fortunate to have my son here. I truly feel that he is set up for success, and I would highly recommend them to anyone seeking childcare.

I am not able to physically meet her teachers, but we have had zoom calls and they have an amazing app that they send constant pictures and videos throughout the day. They do such a fantastic job at trying to figure out this whole new norm we are living in. Most importantly you can tell they loveeeeeee the kiddos. Genuinely love and are happy. I toured quite a few daycares and you can tell when employees are not happy. I could ramble on about all the great things, but you get the point.
