I am extremely disappointed with FirstKey Homes in Waxhaw, NC. We have been without air conditioning since Friday, during dangerously hot weather, and there has still been no meaningful resolution. This is not just uncomfortable. It is unsafe! I am pregnant, and I also have a child with special needs in the home. We are sitting in a hot house while FirstKey keeps telling us the issue is "being expedited to the local team," but nothing actually gets done. Our property manager does not respond to emails or phone calls, and there has been no clear timeline, no urgency, and no accountability. It is unacceptable to pay rent and still have to beg for basic habitability, especially when vulnerable people are affected. FirstKey Homes needs to address this immediately. No tenant, especially a pregnant person and a child with special needs, should be ignored while living without A/C in extreme heat. read more

Our experience with FirstKey Homes has been extremely frustrating due to poor communication, delayed email notifications, and unfair charges. We were recently charged a $45 non-compliance fee for lawn care--even though the lawn was mowed on May 8, after a stretch of nonstop rain that made mowing earlier impossible. The HOA sent the violation to FirstKey Homes on May 6, but we were not notified by FirstKey via email until May 13. We submitted photo proof the same day we received the notice, clearly showing the lawn had already been taken care of. To make things worse, a FirstKey representative told us over the phone that we would not be charged--but the $45 fee was still added to our account anyway. Even more concerning is how FirstKey is handling HOA violations. The HOA sent a notice about a dead tree to FirstKey on May 13, with a compliance deadline of May 30. FirstKey did not forward this violation to us until June 2--after the deadline had already passed. And when they did finally notify us, they told us we would be responsible for the cost of removing the dead tree, despite the fact that we noted this issue during our move-in inspection and were told at the time that "it shouldn't be a problem." So now we're expected to pay for something that was a pre-existing issue, that we properly reported, and that FirstKey failed to act on--or even inform us about--until it was too late. This is the second time we've been made aware of an HOA violation only after the deadline, due to FirstKey's delay in forwarding notices. As tenants, we've done our part to maintain the home, report issues, and comply with rules. But FirstKey's internal breakdowns, delayed emails, and lack of responsibility are leaving us with unfair charges and no ability to resolve issues in time. FirstKey Homes must do better--starting with timely communication, honoring move-in reports, and taking accountability for their own delays. read more

This rental company is crap!! My son and daughter in law were renting a place in Charlotte. My son died of cancer. They have a 4 month old. He was the sole provider for his family. He was there for a job. She had to leave the state because she had no family or friends there to help. She had to break the lease. They not only are making her pay for last month's rent! They also told her there is a $4000 charge for breaking the lease. This is a load of crap! She's a young widow with a 4 month old. Think twice before hiring this company!!! read more

first key homes is quite literally the worst rental company in America. we've lived in this home for 3 years and have nothing but horrible experiences. I would caution you to RUN away from first key if you're thinking about renting with them. The latest issue that we have is that when first key bought and "renovated" this home, the closet racks were installed incorrectly (confirmed by a contractor that THEY sent out). Because of this, our closer racks have all fallen multiple times until they for someone else to come and fix it and secure it properly. One of the original racks fell and we had it reinstalled on Thursday. Mind you, the rack is still not in correctly. Multiple screws aren't in all of the way and it's not flush to the wall. I just got a bill for $150 from them saying that this is resident responsibility. How is that my responsibility when you all can't install things directly. They are such a scam, have horrible customer service and I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. read more

worst ever experience, extremely unsatisfied and frustrated, althought I gave a notice I was still charged a cancellation fee and when I tried to get help I couldn't get any and they still charged me an obscene amount of $3500 on top of my 2000$ security on a property that I rented for 1600$ a month, I would not recommend FKH to anyone. read more

They scam you by giving you fee before even giving a warning and take pictures weeks before and most of the time the problem has already been delt with and money never gets credited back to you nor do they resolve the issues. Reason why we moved and got our office there hair do not recommend!!! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. They are a horrible company, we had plumbing issues for months, sometimes we would be without running water or a toilet to use, So we had to take our 88 year old mother who has dementia to a gas station or she urinated in her pants. They would not even pay for a hotel. Then, the communication is non existent. they are just a BS company. They don't care about you and take advantage of you. read more

I just moved out of a FKH property, I was there for 3 years just bc it was difficult for me to move out. They increase my rent in 3 years $800.00 , which it got to the point that it was ridiculous to pay. In all those years their customer service was terrible, very impersonal, onetime I call for somebody to come trim a tree that was touching the side of the house and they came without notifying me and cut the whole tree down. It was a beautiful tree very healthy. Next door I had an AirBNB that was very active with people coming in an out , leaving garbage at the backyard, and loud. I try to find out the HOA rules but they did nothing to help me with that. When I moved out of the property I made sure everything was in order and clean, still they deducted $10.09 for ONE light bulb that they say was missing, incredible that a light bulb cost that much. Be aware of this company that treats his tenant badly and all they think is about money. The house that I was is still empty and they had to keep lowering the price to the number I was paying, it's call Karma. read more

You pay $110 to apply for a family, then their "authentication" system pretends to verify you, rejects you, and then you're on the hook and you can do absolutely nothing to reverse this error. It doesn't even take your picture like it says it will. Avoid this company like the plague. Don't be fooled by their nice looking homes, they are slimy con artists just stealing money from people left and right. read more

the most disgusting company that provides terrible service to rented houses. my family and I can't get either repairs or replacement of the refrigerator, which breaks down every month, because it's very old. now they still don't do anything and I, having a baby in my arms, am forced to live without buying food, because there is nowhere to store it. this is the most successful company, I don't recommend dealing with these guys read more

This is not a good place to rent from. I find them to be predatory and liars who get hourly personnel to do the biding for them. I am a great tenant who pays on time every time and I think this may also be my downfall with them. They raised my rent over 16% and when I tried to get a 18 month lease they wanted to increase my rent by just over months 28%. I believe they don't want to renew me for 18+ months because they can get more out of me. This is insane, the average job only gives a merit increase of 3% each year and they are dead set on taking ALL that and then some. Not to mention, the yard is a mess and and after 9 months the roach infestation is returning and they want me to pay for pest control and landscaping..........they even told me, if I want the dead trees and weeds gone I could pay for it...............now why would I do that............so you can charge somebody more money driven off my efforts............DON'T THINK SO! read more

Im messaging on this front page about FirstKey Homes and my horrible EXPERIENCES with the maintenance team. I put in a work order for my septic tank which backs up every six months and it's damn near impossible to get help by any of there vendors ie blue chip. My toilets are constantly backed up bubbling and unable to flush. Two weeks ago my toilet pipe erupted and flooded my entire bathroom. Maintenance request was put in and never heard anything back even though I've called back 5 times. They always say it's being expedited to the local team and nothing ever gets done. Our property manager never responds to emails or phone calls(Shana). This property was the worse mistake ever made and this will be my last time renting from this property. Every holiday I'm either out of heat, toilet, or power. The only way to get immediate help is to post my issues on there social media. I own a home next door to a FK rental, and every tenant (3) they've approved to rent property does NOT maintain property. PROPERTY MANAGER has been doing a terrible job making their tenants maintain the outside of the property so as NOT to devalue the property values of homeowners. FYI, FK will automatically charge tenants for receiving a violation WARNING from the HOA. The outrageous amount of rent charged should include vendors to maintain property to respect neighbors' investments. Rental companies just want that monthly rent. Getting a person on the phone, after putting in a work order request and waiting too long for a response other than an automated one, takes an arm/leg. The kitchen appliances are outdated, and putting a bandaid on it only works for a short period of time. CUSTOMER SERVICE is bad, and tenants will be charged violation fees even if the issue is resolved before the HOA cure date. read more
