We are in the middle of paperwork for a mortgage. After trying for almost FIVE months to get their attention, going up the ladder of responsibility, repeated promises of "get right back to you", and recently withdrawing a large amount of money every day from our 30 year old account with them, NOTHING has worked. I am now turning to Social Media to see if that gets TD Bank's attention. Thank God we could come up with interim financing, or we would have lost the home we wanted. The people running Chase and this branch definitely GET IT! And like Wells, they are always willing to sit down and talk with their customers regardless if it leads to new business. They are polite, helpful, sincere, and truly remind you that this is not Citi or BofA. This is a small, local bank with plenty of branches in Fairfield County to satisfy anyone. If you're looking for top-notch service and a personal touch, this is the place to go. Overall, this bank (the company) gets (3.5 stars) (the branch gets (5 stars)). Here's why: Positives: They are a small bank, and their decision-makers are responsive and accessible. Their branches make banking easy, and there are almost never more than 2-3 people in line, except Fridays at lunchtime. There are no fees for qualified depositors. Cons: The bank has its own way of looking at living trusts, which can be restrictive. After a lot of effort from Agnieszka, my wife, and myself, the issue has been resolved. We still maintain our business account at Chase (which has $5,000 in it). They pay an interest rate of just .001%, so don't leave money in your interest-bearing checking account. If you are looking for a local bank with a personal touch, you found it. PS I will amend my review (if warranted) in 90-days. I am inclined to say that the bank will get regraded to (4 stars) and the branch to (5 stars).

First County Bank had very competitive CD rates in 2024 so I opened up 4 CDs with varying maturity…read moredates at First County. I also opened up CDs at other local banks including Bankwell and DR Bank. A number of my CDs at the other banks have matured already, and my first First County CD matured yesterday. I tried to close my matured First County CD, and I was told that they were going to charge me a $10 fee for the bank check used to close the account. (So I would be charged a total of $40 for my 4 CDs). Neither Bankwell nor DR bank charges their customers fees to close their accounts. Even Citibank doesn't charge for this. So theoretically, if your child deposits her $100 birthday money into a First County account, whenever she decides to close the account, she will be charged $10 (if she's issued a bank check.) I understand that banks charge their customers a fee to issue a bank check for their customers' use (to buy a car, etc.) In First County's case, First County is charging the customer a fee for First County's own use of the bank check (to close out their customer's account). This is not a First County rant: their rates are competitive, and their CSRs are polite. I am posting this to give potential customers a heads' up about their unusual account closure fee.

The loan officer there, who was leaving to work at The First Bank of Greenwich, convinced me to apply with them instead. He promised to personally introduce me to the bank manager and a VP, which he did. At The First Bank of Greenwich, the VP required me to deposit $100K into an account in order to receive a $100K "secured" loan. Both the VP and the manager assured me that, within two weeks, this would be converted into a standard loan. That turned out to be a complete lie. Instead, they held onto my $100K for two months, during which I had no access to it, and ultimately informed me that they would not be approving any loan. When I decided to walk away and asked for my money back (I returned their $100K check, which I had never deposited elsewhere), they had the audacity to charge me $500 just to withdraw my own funds. In other words: they took $100K of my money, used it for two months, refused me the loan they promised, and then charged me $500 on the way out. I do not trust this bank and will never do business with them again.

After several decades of business banking - and at several banks - the First Bank of Greenwich has, again and again, gone out of their way to help in all ways big and small, that I've not seen elsewhere. In an era where decent customer service is constantly diminishing, this bank brings a refreshing and helpful level of focus and attention that's unfortunately hard to find elsewhere. And as a small business, with little to offer in terms of fat bank accounts, I still seem to get attention and service at the 10/10 level.

This organization, situated in Fairfield County, as I am, was a good place to start. Two visits in 24 hours to the branch have been very satisfying in terms of service. They even remembered me! Seriously that's a big deal! I immediately saved $144 per year getting rid of my Bank of America checking account and working with this organization. I only wait for a piece of plastic to arrive ( minor inconvenience) so I can start to resume my normal life with only one Financial institution in place. They've been pleasant to deal with and actually remembered me from day one today to day two! That in itself is remarkable in this day and age where corporate and banker greed is starting to take over our society! Peace out!
