A Horrible Bank - JaneWatkins - Thursday, October 27, 2011…read more- 11:40 AM I opened a personal and business account with American Bank of Texas, NA on Adams drive in Temple Texas last year with over $30000.00. From the beginning I had problems with bank policies that required I come to the bank in person for things that other banks are able to handle over the phone. I decided it would get better as time went on. But it DID NOT get better, it got worse. I had my income tax return check sent to my account and they sent it back to the government!!! I was told I would have to sign something and then I could contact the government and have them send it again. It took me almost a month to get my return money. " They refused to cash a check I had given to a contractor when I had 10X's that amount in the account. Again I had to go in person to rectify the situation. After numerous other problems, to many to list, I went today to close my account and they refused to give me cash. They would only give me a cashiers check and when I ask why the only explanation I received was, "It is bank policy" This seems to be the only answer they have for anything. IF YOU DON'T HAVE ALL DAY TO SPEND AT YOUR BANK THEN DON'T USE THIS BANK!!!!!!!

I would drive the 40 miles to find the lobby closed on Sat. That happened twice before I severed the relationship. Tried to call the branch several times and calls went to a national switchboard. My father received a payout from a life insurance policy and it took him 3 months to get any money. They told him he had to request it. He said that is what he is doing. They told him it would take three week. Four weeks later he had me call them because he is deaf and still hadn't received his funds. They told me "you don't need to call, we will call when it is here" He finally went there and he said he wanted his money. He said he wasn't leaving until he got it. They told him there were calling the police and he told them to please do so. They miraculously came up with the money he wanted to withdraw. They then called Adult protective services and accused my nephew of abusing my dad for his money. The kicker was it was my nephews life insurance policy that my got received because my nephew passed away. My dad didn't even have the account until my nephew passed away and neither of them even lived in the state at the time. My dad changed banks but they told him it would be a $28..00 fee to transfer and I told them he wasn't going to pay to get his own money. They then said well we can do a bank check for free! Appalling! They were the ones abusing him. The branch has since closed but it was not a shock. The only surprise was that it was open as long as it was.
