Als Tires - Metal piece that ripped my tire sidewall.

    Als Tires

    (6 reviews)

4 Aug. '26. Gash ripped in the sidewall of a 20" rear tire from some back road driving (Wilmore…read moreDam area) on my Avalanche; spare tire was flat also. Weakland Wreckers LLC (also highly recommend) towed it to Al's, aka Shannon's. First time customer as I live more than 25 miles away; no idea what to expect. They promptly (read: immediately) took in the vehicle, took off the tire, showed me what was still stuck in it, and got me back on the road in short order. (Tech Ian was great.) What I learned: There was legitimately no way to patch the tire. With the set of tires on the vehicle having less than half tread, 2 new tires on the same (rear) axle was, no question, the way to go. I had a choice of different similar new tires that were in stock. The spare tire winch mechanism on Avalanche's are notoriously unreliable. They got the spare lowered only to discover it had no air. They cleaned up the bead and remounted the spare. (btw the factory spares on these are 17" rims and tires...go figure.) I was back on the road in less than an hour and under $450 (2 new General tires mounted, balanced, installed; spare tire once again roadworthy). I was stranded and needed a fix. They did that with professionalism and fair (imo) pricing. The experience makes me want to go back when I need the other 2 tires replaced. (I hope to figure out how to upload the picture of the hunk of hooked metal that was in the tire.)

STAY AWAY!!! Worst experience I've had with a tire shop EVER! Took a vehicle in to get a flat…read morefixed. They plugged it. OK...fine...but the plug leaked so much you could actually hear it hissing. Had to "schedule" a time to take it back in. They said you'll just need two tires instead. Problem is, when they took the donut off and remounted the old plugged tire they rounded the lug nuts so bad that they had to be burned and cut off by another mechanic and the lugs themselves had to be completely rethreaded. The best part is, they even admitted to ruining them and THEY still expected ME to pay the price. Take a hike Big Al!
