If you're looking for an absolutely solid, dependable, well-run roadside motel to pass the night before/after visiting the nearby natural parks and wonders, this is your place! The nighttime desk attendant was cheerful, incredibly well-informed, and professional--he made check-in ick, easy and pleasant. The lobby and hallways were clean, bright, and decorated with artwork befitting the local theme. The pool (and hot tub with jets!!) was open late and stocked with towels. More importantly, the rooms were clean, orderly, dark at night, and otherwise perfectly acceptable, which is NOT always the case with roadside inns. I posted my review of this hotel on Booking.com and the owner responded. I would like to clarify two points in response to the owner's comments. First, Booking.com advised me that any refund request had to be handled directly by the property. That is why I contacted the owner immediately after discovering that three rooms had been booked instead of the two I needed. In my past experiences with hotels booked through Booking.com, I have always worked directly with the hotel or owner to resolve booking issues, and those situations were handled professionally and courteously. Second, when I checked in, I was given keys to only two rooms, even though I had prepaid for three. I had to ask for the key to the third room before it was provided. I did not refuse or decline the third room, nor did I request a refund after using it. My refund request was made before check-in, immediately after I discovered the booking error. My disappointment was not simply that the refund was denied, but in the way the situation was handled. Rather than receiving understanding or assistance, I was scolded for using Booking.com instead of booking directly with the property. Whether a reservation is made directly or through a booking platform, I believe every guest deserves to be treated with courtesy and respect. For the record, the total prepaid amount was $396 for one night. While I understand that refund policies vary, I believe the facts should be accurately represented. read more

When passing through Green River, this is a decent place to get a good night's rest. It's not the cheapest place in town but it was a lot less than others. It's older, and shows its age in the common areas but it's not terrible. The room seemed somewhat updated and it certainly was clean. The bed was comfortable and since we asked to not be put near rooms with dogs, it was quiet. The breakfast was basic but there was enough to fill up hungry tummies. read more

The first choice at the swell would definitely not be my first choice for staying in again maybe second or third choice. And that's not to say I had a terrible experience or anything like that. It was just averagely fine. The counter clerk was very nice when I first arrived. I asked her some questions about takeout or restaurants because green River is not happening place. However, if you're going to national parks or even some of the area state parks, this is a great hub to stay in.. I'm gonna warn you when you're going out to eat go early because things close very early. I was asked when I checked in if I had any pets with me no I didn't . And it didn't occur to me until a few hours later that might be why my room had an aroma to it that was a little unpleasant when I first entered my room. I noticed pet hair on the carpet. My room was clean but vacuums don't always pick up all the pet hair. It just happens when you have an animal so I understood and I was fine with that. I'm not allergic to cats and dogs too badly so I was fine in that aspect, but the room did have a funky Smell to it which I got used to and didn't really bother me after about 15-20 minutes in the room. Wasn't overpowering it didn't smell like urine or ammonia. It just smelled a little off and I thought maybe it could've been the age of the hotel or maybe the carpeting or could be just the environment outside being near a river. I couldn't even really put my finger on what the smell was. The bathroom was pretty disgusting . I refused to shower there. The showerhead needs a good vinegar and baking soda dipping because it's just covered in crust and hard water. It's gross. And I was a little bit appalled by the toilet paper that was provided. Like someone in housekeeping actually unwrapped this role of toilet paper and didn't notice that there were questionable stains on it as I was going to use it. I did leave it on the counter with a note saying "disgusting" on it because I'm not sure how somebody could've overlooked this when they were putting it on the toilet paper roll. The lighting is very strange when I first entered the room and I put the light switch on. Nothing turned on, it turns out that there's a rocker switch to the light connected to that power source and it was off so I had no light when I first walked in. That was a bit unsettling because you want to be able to see what you're walking into. After a long day of driving and walking around, I just wanted to relax so I flopped on the bed and it was so hard. It was very shocking. My suggestion is slowly get into the bed... The curtains are strange and in very bad condition. They look really gross. My room definitely has some water leakage issues. Otherwise my room was clean and for being right across from an elevator-it was very quiet. You get what you pay for.... read more

About a 2-2.5: First Choice Inn at the Swell is a popular spot for those who are going through Utah to check out the Green River, San Rafael Swell, the Arches, Canyonlands, or Lake Powell. It's conveniently located and offers decent clean rooms. The rooms that they offer are a king, two queen beds, rooms with an addition of a pull-out couch as well as wheelchair-accessible rooms. Our room had a mini fridge and a microwave; while the furniture was outdated, it had the basic necessities. There was also a complimentary breakfast with limited options. We also noticed that there aren't much eatery options around the vicinity. Proprietor refused to issue a receipt upon checkout. They require a credit card number to check in, "for incidentals", although the room was prepaid. When I asked for a zeroed out receipt upon check-out the proprietor refused to issue one. The first hotel I have ever stayed in that would not issue a zeroed out receipt. - follow up: After I asked to take a video of the room for my own record, they emailed me a hand written note stating no charges were incurred. Overall a nice clean property, I am not sure why it was such a challenge to get a final receipt. If you require a paper trail, this hotel is not recommended. read more

Positive experience with housekeeping and front desk. Negative experiences with the breakfast (a joke) and everything related to the building... no screen on window, burnt out lightbulbs, crummy pillows and sheets, bathroom fan inoperable, antiquated HVAC. In spite of it being listed as a non-smoking facility, the hallway reeked of cigarette smoke. Clearly not a well-cared-for facility. read more

This place was yuck. We tried to use our card in door around back, but found out we didn't need it, as it was broken and didn't lock. We went in the room with our little dog that I paid extra for, and the room smelt like animals. The carpet didn't look clean, my dog smelt every inch of the room, I had to watch him like a hawk, as being a boy and the smell he would want to mark his territory. Breakfast had a decent selection. Right away I was greeted by a very friendly gentleman at the front desk, I believe his name was Juan. The room was clean and spacious. The pool and hot tub were clean. Lots of parking. Standard hotel breakfast. And across the street there's a restaurant that looks out on green river. It's not a 5-star resort, but for what I was expecting to find in a small town and for the price, I was very pleasantly surprised. read more

TLDR: overpriced; penny pinchers; despite the hotel name, not my first choice Full Review: On a two week road trip and plan was to spend the morning in Moab and then head to Zion. Ended up spending the full day in Moab and too tired to drive all the way to Zion. Green River looked like a good place to stop overnight. Arrived in town around 1900 local time and the hotel was pet friendly. Base price was ~$30 more than any hotel I had booked on trip. When I checked in was told there was a $20 fee per pet per night but was already there and tired. The pet area is a rock pit with a dirt path. The WiFi was pretty good but even with an HDMI hooked up to the computer wasn't able to watch movies on the TV because the hotel has video on demand that you pay to watch movies. The hot tub was out of order. Petty rant: Breakfast only goes until 0900, even on the weekends, so night owls make note. I dragged myself of bed at 0830 and worst selection to date. No fruit, a pan of eggs and sausage links, dry cereal, oatmeal packs, yogurt. Not great for a vegan, so I grabbed a couple of peanut butter packets. There was a sign that said "This is all you can EAT not all you can WASTE". Are we in kindergarten? There was a family sitting at the table closest to the 'buffet' with their dog (no service vest) pulling on its leash, likely trying to get to the sausage links. The dog could have had all the sausage links as far as I was concerned and I travel with my fur friends, too, but the associate should have kindly pointed to the sign that said 'No pets in breakfast area.' The orange juice and apple juice were out of order, leaving cranberry juice or water as options. There was coffee but no decaf available. I know free breakfast, I shouldn't complain about free but I am anyways. Also my fault but still: Check out is at 1100. I am chronically late. Sorry I have multiple ADA qualified conditions so no, I cannot go to bed earlier and wake up earlier or move any faster. At 1030 I told the housekeeper I was loading my car then checking out. At 1110, I was out at the car and had one more load to grab from the room and then would be on my way but guess what? Neither of my keys would let me in. I was a bit flustered making my way to the desk and had to roll my eyes when the associate told me the keys shut off at 1100 because that is checkout time. Both stairwells were pitch black because they had shut the lights off, likely to save money on their electricity bill. Overall, bad research on my part for selecting this place. At least my doggos are cute. Oh and Tesla Charger Users, there is a nice note posted on the bathroom doors that they are not meant for you. read more

Make this your First Choice! They have everything you need! We had stayed at a different motel on our eastbound leg, but were VERY pleased to stay at First Choice Inns at the Swell on the westbound leg. The sole proprietors intend to provide a quality experience, and THEY DO! Nice rooms, frig/micro, breakfast, pool, GRASS!, TREES! (very few other establishments locally can say the same). The Inn is right next to the terrific John Wesley Powell River History Museum (allow yourself a full hour) and visually shares an expanse of GRASS & TREES. A little bonus, when temps are right, the Inn has a little patio off of their breakfast room that is shaded and overlooks the cool grassy areas. While some 5 star ratings might reflect "chocolates on your pillows", our rating reflects a night's lodging done well. read more

It was okay. Wasn't super clean and the guy who checked us in didn't seem to be super thrilled about being there, which is fine. I get it, it's work. The other staff members were great though! Its definitely an older hotel. Overpriced in my opinion (186 for one night) We decided to stay here and drive to Arches.. we probably should have just spent the money at Moab. I'd still recommend it based on experience with most of the staff and the area is quiet so it's nice to just be away from city lights. read more

Most importantly, the beds are very comfortable and the staff very friendly and professional. Good pet areas. Easy parking for oversized vehicles. Oversized room that was comfortable, one bedside light fixture broken, no freezer compartment in refrigerator (maybe the door to it was broken off?), missing shampoo. Side entry carpet was disgusting, like a food service area... Normally these things are not that big a deal, as good beds are what's important. But, covid breakfast to go was not great, the morning staff very short-handed, so understandably areas were messy, overflowing trash can, spills, etc. Not blaming the staff because one person can only do so much. For the price, I had higher expectations. But I got a good night's sleep and my dog is happy. read more

We booked 3 rooms. When we checked in rooms were ready, desk person was polite and answered our questions. Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. Breakfast was adequate. We stayed 2 nights with no issues. After we checked out and got home I realized I had left a suit in the room. After contacting the hotel they were very helpful in returning it. I sent an addressed boxed for them to send it back. They don't have a UPS drop off place in Green River. The manager went out of his way to be sure the box was returned to me. I don't know if he took it to another town or managed to catch the UPS driver to give it to him. I want to thank him for his effort. I would stay there again. read more

The new owners have done an incredible job making this a nice hotel. Very clean and tastefully simple yet large rooms with all the amenities. Large dorm fridge and microwave with a nice desk and nice set up. The owner is very kind and came up to my room even at 9:00 at night when I couldn't get the tv to work (my fault,wasn't wearing glasses and missed the button I needed). We stayed here again this month on our way back home to CO. I think we were about the only ones here. As we understand it, it's "off season" here now (January). Same as last time, clean and quite. Our room is spacious and functional. WiFi and TV are great. We'll stay here again the next time we roll through UT and need a hotel. read more

Rather than using an app I walked into 5 different hotels this evening around 9:30pm on a Sunday in October and all but two places were full. This was the nicest place out of all of them. Coolest lobby and TV room. No smoking here which is nice. read more

The customer service was great. If you like egg and cheese sandwiches it's a great breakfast,I think it's a creative way to offer a hot breakfast choice in this covid-19 era. The rooms are still being updated, but the beds and linen are very comfortable. The pool was a little cold but the hot tub was nice. My kids had a blast going back and forth. Family friendly. For a last minute booking driving by, this inn was totally fine. A little dated but all the amenities were great. Rooms were clean, smelled good, the pool was nice and the hot tub was fine. The jets didn't work properly but honesty not a mood killer. The free breakfast was on par for was you pay and sufficient enough.
