She…read morehad married late in life and never had children, so my sisters and brother were her unofficial children. In the mid 1930's she began her career as an executive secretary and later took classes in accounting to widen her breadth of experience. She was a thrifty woman but also loved being a sort of fashion plate. Growing up in New York City she had been well respected in the company's she worked for and because of that and her skills she was always paid a fairly good wage. My Aunt worked officially until she was 85 yrs. old, where she volunteered for many worthy causes. Because she earned a good wage she often splurged on herself and bought real gold or silver jewelry. When she did finally get married in her mid 40, she married a wonderful man who wanted to spoil her with fine jewelry. When I received my items, I had no way to know their value. Hence how I ended up walking into Tyson's Watch and Jewelry Exchange. We were helped out by Kevin who was absolutely wonderful. I explained how I had come into these items of jewelry and since some were made as far back as the 1930's I did not know if they were worth anything. Several items I brought along did not have any markings which was standard until the mid 1960's when markings stating sterling silver or 14 karat gold. He examined them briefly, told me what he suspected and then asked to X-ray the items to verify what he thought was solid gold and silver. His suspicions were right and told me I had some very nice pieces and that if I ever wanted to sell any, they would be happy to give us a fair price. In fact on one item they even gave me a 30 day offer to buy price should I would want to sell that particular item. He explained that it being vintage and very well crafted would be very interesting to several of their customers. I thought I had been very professionally and curiously treated the whole time we were there. Kevin was a big help suggesting places to sell some of the other pieces that they would not be interested in. I felt Kevin was honest and put me at ease of having assessed all the pieces of jewelry I brought in. I could see from their display cases that they only carried the very high end jewelry and for them to make an offer on a few of my pieces made me feel I had made the right decision to go to Tysons Watch and Jewelry Exchange. I left there with some decisions to make and eyed a few pieces I would like to add to my jewelry box. For right now all these items have been put into our safe deposit box until I can make some rational decisions about selling because right now I am still too emotionally attached to them. Thank you Tysons Watch and Jewelry Exchange for all of your help.

Nice Lobby with seating area and walk-up window/counter with chairs. Friendly young lady greeted us and she handled the whole transaction from start to finish. We cleared out a jewelry box and had a hodgepodge of gold items (rings, necklaces, mismatch earrings etc.) She quickly determined what was gold with a magnet (did not know that was the process) she then did a couple things to further determine which items were 100% gold. She weighed the final stuff that made the cut, and made a reasonable offer. We walked out with a check. Easy process with no issues. We never did this before so not sure what to expect, overall very easy, no stress and seemed like a fair transaction.

At the store, numerous staff efficiently looked through all the different items I brought in and tallied up what they could offer, and let me know what items they could not take. I did not have a specific amount in mind of what I hoped to be offered, but Cameo's offer seemed extremely fair and they carefully clarified how the check should be made out to meet the requirements of my family member's estate. It was amazing to watch an assembly line of store personnel efficiently sort items and document the running sale total. I had approximately four bankers boxes worth of coins and a bin of stamps, and the entire process took less than an hour. I highly recommend Cameo Coins if you are looking to sell coins, collectables, or stamps or have those type of items appraised.

I had to use pliers to get it off so not only was it bent it also had "bite" marks from me bending it to get it off my finger. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was certain it would never be as beautiful as the day I got it. I called first after doing several Yelp searches near me. I settled in Mount Vernon because of location and positive reviews. I was hoping the fix wouldn't cost too much but the owner was unable to tell me without seeing the ring. He also figured he'd be able to do it on site same day. I walked in around 3 and it was empty. He has a little buzzer and promptly opened the door. I showed him the ring and he said he would be able to fix it in about 30 minutes and for $40. I was shocked. I was so happy to have my ring back. I also asked if he could clean it and he said no problem. I came back at 4 and the ring was ready for me. Beautifully shining and in perfect circle shape! It has never looked better. The ring was bought in NC so I am so thankful to have a trusted jeweler nearby. I also inquired about getting a new wedding band and he showed me a few in shop (he doesn't keep a lot on hand) but also showed me a book with rings he could order. I most definitely plan to do so! I visited M & J Jewelers, as it has excellent reviews and is right in Rosslyn Metro. I brought 2 watches with me, both just needed their batteries replaced. My Tissot Touch, an irreplaceable gift from my dad, and a Wittnauer, titanium watch with 20-year long-life battery. I called ahead and let the technician know what kind of watches I am bringing, "no problem sir" I heard. What followed is a total nightmare that resulted in a destruction of my Tissot closely followed by vitriol barrage from the owner, who try to hide his complete and utter incompetence by his aggressive verbal assault while laughing out my concerns and patronizing me along the way. He spent 15 minutes trying to open my Tissot with increasingly more forceful techniques and tools. This resulted in multiple scratches so deep that I can't put the watch on without really irritating my skin. I tried to stop him, but only heard that he knows what he is doing and to let him work. I am attaching a picture, it may be difficult to see the scratches, but trust me, they are deep. After I told him to just give me the watch back, he popped the back of my Wittnauer and announced to me "there is no battery here." This is the first time this watch with its long life 20-year battery has ever been opened, but he could not even find it inside. Yes this battery does look different form your ordinary watch battery, but instead of acknowledging that he's never seen one before, he laughed his cackling, laud and toothless laughter at me for claiming that there is a battery there to be replaced. Unreal! I felt insulted and my watch (made precious by virtue of a special gift) damaged, I was literally pushed out the door. I would like to think that we are an open and inclusive society, and I practice it daily in my business and consumer choices. I try to judge people on their merit and not accents and appearance. This experience was a sobering one however, where someone from a culture of non-existent customer service and obvious patriarchal disdain for women, treated me in a way that is incompatible with the most basic rules of civil behavior and polite human interaction. I believe that such businesses should not be supported and we should demand better. Here is my attempt at doing just that.
