I found a FB Marketplace Listing for some camera equipment that this shop was selling. I called and…read moretalked to Tim to verify that the listing was still valid. The store is very clean and well organized and Tim let me fully test the camera. The price was very fair and Tim worked with me to make sure I could take care of a maintenance item without having to cover that cost after the purchase. This was my first actual pawn shop purchase and I really appreciated Tim's professionalism, friendliness and effort to make a fair sale. I will definitely be a repeat customer if the opportunity affords itself.

I then bought a different 18k Cuban chain from them. Took it to another jeweler to have it tested, and parts of it stuck to a magnet -- a clear sign it's not real gold, since genuine gold isn't magnetic. When I went back to raise the issue, instead of addressing it, they told me not to come back. Getting misrepresented metal purity twice from the same store is one thing, but being told not to return after catching it is what really says it all. Be careful buying "18k" or "14k" pieces here -- get everything independently tested before you leave the store.

I saved several months to buy the chain for over $400 and the gold charm that hangs on it I paid over $300 for (separate, reputable jewelers) Before taking it in I take the time to clean the item and finish it off with a polishing cloth. I only needed $75 but why take the chance. I had pawned a few things at this place before and *always redeemed them. ie, I always go back and get my stuff and it works ok for what it is. A couple of guitars later, and a few years, I was working a nice gig when my guitar was stolen (on Larimer Street), I needed a guitar quick. My future wife asked me what a pawn shop was like during this time. Wedgle's came to mind immediately. I walked in and said, "I am looking for a flamenco guitar, golpe plate, peg-head desirable." The clerk looked at me like I had fallen off a turnip truck. Then he said, "I don't think...just a moment". They were open about their process for evaluation, and even discussed possible pricing for some additional future sales I am considering. One more thing: I found that this is a generationally family-owned business, of which there are exceedingly fewer and fewer these days. Supporting them, as opposed to their franchised competitors (one of which is mere feet away in the same shopping mall), is important. If you decide to try out a pawn shop, the combination of all of the above should make your choice clear! Justin B.
