I'm not a huge pizza fan. Even famous places like Homeslice fail to move me…read more However, Franco Manca may just have changed my mind with their Naples style pizza with their sourdough bases The 2 pizza dad and his friend ordered were beautifully balanced but the chewy bread was the star. There was also a lovely burrata starter and a lemon cake for dessert I'm happy to go back for more pizza, which is something I never thought I'd hear myself say

This was my first visit to a branch of Franco Manca and I think the main problem was my…read moreexpectations had been set too high. It just wasn't anywhere near as good as everyone had told me it would be. I'll start with the restaurant itself. The layout is poor - the tables are small and packed in tightly, when the restaurant is full it's not easy to squeeze to your seat. The menu is also a problem - although the permanent menu is on a paper placemat, the specials and other items are on a blackboard on one wall. Which you can't see at all from certain parts of the restaurant which was really annoying. The food wasn't bad. But it just wasn't amazing. To start we shared a couple of 'bites'. The buffalo mozzarella with cherry tomatoes, rocket and pitta was disappointing - never before have I had hard Buffalo mozzarella. The burrata with salami on the other hand was the stand out dish - I'm really fussy with burrata and this was lovely. For my main I had the vegetarian special - buffalo mozzarella (uncooked) on a cherry tomato base with watercress pesto. When it was served I had to send it back because they forgot the pesto. But it was a good pizza. And this buffalo mozzarella wasn't hard like the starter one was. My companion had pizza 4 from the main menu - it was described as having little tomato, and I don't think we noticed any at all. It wasn't great. To drink I had the organic lemonade which was horrible. It had a slightly chemically taste to it, and I've never seen fresh lemonade that orange before. I wouldn't recommend. I'm actually really disappointed. I know Franco Manca has one hell of a reputation to live up to but even considering that the hype lifted my expectations, it could have been much better. I won't be rushing back but I would try other branches.

Went in two days in a row. For a fried appetizer assortment and seafood with pasta. Both days food quality 5 stars. Friday night waited 45 min inside the restaurant for takeaway. They got the order wrong , didnt give us garlic cheese bread so lost out on 8 pounds. Saturday night wasnt very busy at all so takeaway took 10 min. Dropped 30 pounds each time and food is worth the quality but these seem like nyc prices. Good for them for having consistent food quality over the years (based off of prior reviews) .

It's definitely a meeting spot for the local Italian community which added to the atmosphere of the place (you might be sat in Tooting but for a little while you could imagine being in Turin). The menu's fairly comprehensive, with a good range of starters (£4-£7.50), pasta (£5-£8.50) and pizzas (£5.50-£10.50). We went straight for the latter, with me ordering the Calzone (tomato sauce, ricotta, Neapolitan salami, ham, olive oil, basil) and my friend the Capricci (tomato sauce, ham, mushroom, artichoke, black olives, mozzarella, olive oil, basil). They were less than a tenner each and on the large side (which was a relief as we were both ravenous!). Service was friendly and efficient, and everything hit the spot, especially when accompanied by a bottle of Moretti beer. A great local eatery which is terrific value for money. Tip: they have Figli del Vesuvio - Double Pizza on the menu for £18.50. That needs to be attempted next time!

They have created a clever seating arrangement with lots of nooks and crannies, creating lots of privacy for diners. The service was first rate throughout with friendly, attentive waiters. I decided to test the kitchen with 2 classics that leave nowhere to hide due to the simplicity and few ingredients in each dish. My starter of spaghetti carbonara sadly wasn't served in my favourite way, as they do on the continent - with a raw egg yolk on top to be worked into the warm pasta to lend the dish its creaminess. However, as a British carbonara, this was exemplary. The pasta was cooked to soft al dente and the sauce coated it rather than drowned it. Bacon and cheese are a classic winning combo and thios dish proved no exception. My main of calf's liver with pancetta was served with some sauteed potato. I knew the dish would be good from the moment it was laid on the table - there were heavy stripe marks from the grill and the smell was heavenly. The liver was sliced thinly but still moist on the inside with a crispy seared crust. Perfect amount of liver to bacon ratio I finished with bannofee pie - another winning combo of banana and toffee. Minor criticism that the biscuit base was a big thick There is a good lead in the kitchen and this place deserves to continue to thrive

Portions are generous, (you'll struggle with more than two courses) and while it is a little more expensive than some places, the food is both well prepared and authentic. Starters range from £4.50 for Bruschetta to £8.95 for King Tiger Prawns in garlic; pasta and pizza range from £6.95 to £9.50, and meat and fish dishes cost £11.95 - £17.95. Children's pasta and pizza portions are available for £5.00. Expect a two-course meal for two with wine and coffee to come to about £25-£35 a head, depending on the selection. The full menu is on the web-site, so you can plan ahead. Service is very attentive (and can feel a little too much so) but is also efficient and friendly. The only downside is the decor, which feels remarkably like a chain restaurant, but don't let that put you off. It can also get very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings (I suggest booking ahead), and caters for groups, so it's perhaps not the choice for an intimate meal for two. But it's one of my favourites in the area during the week.
