This is where you go to get Diamonds, not Fireworks. I just wanted to clear that up first and foremost. Let me explain the number one reason why I love Fireworks Gallery. Its not because they design their own jewelry and mix it among the other name brand jewelry they sell. It isn't because the customer service is very good. It is because about half of their diamonds come from Canada. Why is that so important? Well if you haven't heard of "blood diamonds" and aren't aware of the damage to peoples lives diamonds bought in certain areas of the world can cause, I'd suggest you do some research. So when you buy diamonds found in Canada, you are guaranteed that bad things aren't happening to good people to get that diamond from the Mine to your hand. The Staff have also informed me that they are trying to sell only Arctic Canadian diamonds which will eventually mean 100% of their inventory can be traced back to a Canadian Mine. This means, not only are they a local store selling local and name brand jewelry, but they are a conscious business looking after the welfare of those who make the products they sell. Their products are fantastic as well. Very unique designs and for the most part fair prices. I would definitely say they are competitive with their pricing but it is still a bit high and why I don't have five stars. But I did wrestle with whether or not I should or shouldn't give them five stars. Because I feel their prices are close to ideal and choosing to sell only Canadian Diamonds, thus avoiding any "blood diamonds" coming in, deserves a few stars at the very least. If you are in the area, check them out. You will find amazing, hand crafted designs you won't find elsewhere!

It's hard not to sigh when you enter Fire Works Gallery. Everything is so... glittery. I don't even wear much jewellery, but when I'm in this shop, I have a strange desire to festoon myself with silver and gold. The shop is filled with unique artisanal jewellery and is known for its custom design work. My partner and I had rings (which we designed) custom-made here years ago for our tenth anniversary. The silversmith did great work, exactly to our specifications. Staff are courteous and knowledgeable, and the shop is always busy - even in these times of "restraint." Sometimes just a little extravagance is justifiable, no?

Very cool selection that we wish we'd spent longer looking at. Lots of custom designed, unique stuff that you don't see everywhere.

Nestled below a few steps off Spring Garden Road, this jewelry shop requires an extra glance to notice its there. The steps are deep, so be warned--I can see them being tricky for some. Visitors need to press the buzz to get inside, and its immediately obvious that this place isn't for tooting around. Teeny-tiny, but elegantly stated. The exposed brick wall and open workshop give Fawcett's its own hands-on personality. The goldsmith, Blaine, welcomed me kindly and was very helpful in giving me the shop scoop. While the show room displays mainly engagement rings, formal bands and the like, the business is built on custom designed jewelry. Everything is made right here in the shop, behind a wall divider, so as the goldsmith works, you can roam the shop and see him go. Its a different experience, and I liked it. The jewels are too rich for my blood, but maybe some day. Blaine mentioned that they were branching out with some newer and lower price range product, so don't let price stop you from going in for a peek. Overall, the work is excellent and the friendly, personably service seems A +. Open for over 18 years, its no wonder Fawcett's is still kicking.

I obviously didn't work as closely with them as he did, but in my dealings with them since then they have been nothing but polite and sincere - I think they like my ring even more than I do! Re-sizing was free and we are now working on designs for a band to go with my ring. The only thing I can't comment on here is price - my guy refuses to disclose what he spent, but I would imagine it was a lot based on the quality of the stones and the gold work. Pricing is not for the faint of heart, but what you get is quality and craftsmanship. There is no rhodium plating here - you get the real deal. The customer service is also excellent, particularly when contrasted with the service of chain stores.

Or as my husband would say "it a place for hippies." They had lots of cool sterling silver jewelry from Thailand. The prices were quite reasonable too. They had lots of earrings and bracelets in the $10-$25 range. I really didn't look at much else in the store, but they had beads, wooden knick knacks, pillows, and clothing that looked like they were from Nepal, Indonesia and Thailand, among other things. I loved these kinds of stores in my middle school and high school years, but it's not quite my aesthetics anymore, with the exception of the jewelery, because I still love sterling silver, it's the most suitable metal for my colouring. I had a great time browsing their large jewelery section. I almost bought the cutest bracelet, but it was a tad too big for me :( Staff were very nice. I always stop by when I'm in Halifax to poke around a bit, and be reminded of my style as a teenager, lol.

When you think ultra high end, most of us are trained to just think of Mills Brothers, but with gorgeous boutique shops like Frida, Halifax's luxury scene has a lot more depth than we think. Tucked away in the Bishop's Landing piazza, Frida is a feast for the eyes featuring truly incredible custom-made jewelry and one-of-a-kind pieces brought in from Italy and beyond. The in-store experience is a sight to be seen. Reminiscent of a Valentino showroom on the Las Vegas strip, or a bespoke tailor on Savile Row, the entire room shines with diamonds, golds, silvers, and more. The owner is usually on site and happy to tell you more about her work, the pieces, and the custom orders that are worthy of celebrity engagements. While it's well outside of my price range - or even the price range I hope of having at SOME point in my life - this store is worth a look, if nothing else than to see some of the most magnificent jewelry you can set your eyes on. The $3,500+ ring was a personal favourite of mine...
