I brought in some jewellery to be repaired and I was thrilled with the service and the turnaround time.

I had approached several other Halifax companies over the last few years, all of whom had discouraged me, suggesting that the watch would never keep time properly, it would have to send it to Montreal for cleaning, and probably wasn't worth the cost or effort. The owner of VIna's eyes brightened when he saw the watch and indicated that he could certainly do the required watch. It was ready on precisely the day he promised and it looks and works perfectly, keeping excellent time. As a result of the success with this watch, I asked about another, quite fine watch, that had lost its watch crystal and, as a result, the hands which were unusually small. I had tried to have this favourite watch repaired various places in the city; one had contacted the company which had made the watch, and they reportedly responded that they no longer had parts for this watch. A company I contacted in Montreal gave a similar response. After several years, I'd given up trying to have the watch repaired, although I had resisted the suggestion from one local company that I just leave it with them for parts. Given the quality of the service Vina's had provided for the Bulova, I left the watch with them to see whether they might be able to do something to fix it. When I returned, the watch was completely restored. The owner had found among his extensive collection of parts both the crystal and the hands; he showed me the original paper work for their purchase dated in the 1980s! This is a truly remarkable shop. An extraordinarily knowledgeable craftsman with a deep love for all things related to watches and clocks. The work was done perfectly and was ready on precisely the day promised. The costs were considerable, but perfectly reasonable for what was done. I have since recommended VIna's to someone who wanted to have a vintage Rolex from the 1940s restored. They too were delighted with the quality of the work and the service. If you have a watch of some value on which you would like work to be done, this is certainly the place to go in Nova Scotia.

However, I don't think one can sustain a shop on a relatively small assortment of timepiece holders. I spoke with the man behind the counter to ask about watch battery pricing. Only $5 and he can do it in a few minutes while you wait - great news! I perused a little further, discovering a wall with larger clocks as well as an assortment of trophies... The space is bright and dated, with inoffensive colors and a very bland overall atmosphere. Plus side: there are a bunch of lovely orchids blooming in the window! Vina's apparently buys scrap gold and jewellery materials, as well as sells some watches and pocket clocks. A strange little store. But thankfully, not I know where to go if I need a watch strap. Phew.

Also tons of cute knickknacks like little figurines, Christmas ornaments, baby mobiles, and home decor items. They're open late, too. I could have browsed here for hours if I'd had the time.

Or as my husband would say "it a place for hippies." They had lots of cool sterling silver jewelry from Thailand. The prices were quite reasonable too. They had lots of earrings and bracelets in the $10-$25 range. I really didn't look at much else in the store, but they had beads, wooden knick knacks, pillows, and clothing that looked like they were from Nepal, Indonesia and Thailand, among other things. I loved these kinds of stores in my middle school and high school years, but it's not quite my aesthetics anymore, with the exception of the jewelery, because I still love sterling silver, it's the most suitable metal for my colouring. I had a great time browsing their large jewelery section. I almost bought the cutest bracelet, but it was a tad too big for me :( Staff were very nice. I always stop by when I'm in Halifax to poke around a bit, and be reminded of my style as a teenager, lol.
