I've never felt pressured to buy something extra or to add on a service. They're great at explaining what they're going to do when I have work done. I move to Lawrence I lived in Junction City. I really enjoyed the Firestone and they were very respectful to me and I trust them. When I move to Lawrence, I was excited to know, that they had a firestone. I went here quite a bit to get my oil changed, since I've live in Lawrence. I went to go get my oil changed this week. When the man came out he told me, my car was leaking. They would like to do a pressure check, so he asked for my permission. I said, yes. Because I rely on my car to get me to work, because I commute. When he came back out he told me it was my radiator was leaking and needs to be replaced. My first reaction was like what???? I have no leak stains in my garage and my car hasn't been acting funny. So he took me into the garage to show me my radiator. I didn't see anything leaking. We went back into the store he got on the computer and called someone about a radiator part. I did quick search while he was on the phone. It takes 8 to 10 years for a radiator to go bad. My car is 3 years old. when he got off the phone he told me the repairs would cost over $900. I was like ummm...... So I told him I'm going to call my warranty, because I'm sure they cover this. It's not going to be fixs today. After, I left I made an appointment with Ed Bozarth Chevrolet, because I wanted to get a second opinion. I went there today and there is nothing wrong with my radiator. I'm so glad I did that because I could have lost $900. I went ahead and called customer service, because I felt like they should known that there was a mistake that happened. I was very polite to her on the phone, because I knew it wasn't her fault she was just a customer service representative. I just didn't want this to happen to another customer. Because your vehicle is very personal and money doesn't grow on trees. She did tell me DM will call me. I decided to call the shop to let them know that they misdiagnosed my vehicle. The manager reassured me that his technician wasn't wrong. I told him went to get a second opinion. He said that he trusts his technician. I completely understand that he does. I'm sure he does a great job. It is possible he made a mistake. The manager told me to get a third opinion. Guess what??? I did just that. There is nothing wrong with my radiator. Do I need to go get fourth opinion???? I'm sure the manager a nice guy. I'm sure he was defensive because they made a mistake. I understand he's human. I just want them to be aware. And just maybe it's a scam, I'm not sure. Maybe, trying to pull a fast one over me. Or it was just an honest mistake. I just didn't like to be talk to like I was wrong. Well stopped in because they were open Sunday. They said my tire was not able to be patched due to proximity to shoulder. They tried to sell me a new tire. Lucky for me I smelled bs and took to my normal place D&D tire the next day. What do you know it's patched and at half the cost. Firestone is a good place to get free air for your tires. read more

I have been going to Firestone since I moved to Lawrence for college! Steve is excellent and goes out of his way to personally get to know his customers. He never tries to overcharge for services. I honestly feel like he services my car as he would service his own daughter's car. The estimated wait times are usually dead on, and the prices are affordable. I made an appt to get a slow leak checked on my tire. After waiting an hour and twenty minutes I finally asked how much longer. It was only then that they told me they didn't find a leak. When I asked why it took so long for them to tell me there was nothing they could do, the guy got short with me saying he and the other guy were busy. Obviously, making a appointment doesn't matter and who knows how much longer I would have had to wait if I didn't ask the status. One hour and twenty minutes to check for an air leak is unreasonable, especially when I had an appointment. read more

I have fleet of trucks, trailer, as well as personal truck and cars, camper boat the works, So I buy tires , I live on gravel road and my shop too, went through tires left and right, store manager showed me there was a good line that will last longer, he was right I got double the life I was from other tire shops, save me thousands, I also have them do some of my simple wrenching if I'm to busy, never have problem one, drop off they fix and I'm on my way, I know how to work on trucks but when your busy you don't have time to mess with things that's where they come in, in a big way, Been going to Lawrence shop for 4 years now don't plan on changing any time soon, the other reviews have right to be up set if they where wronged but . I'm a very pushy person most times, I don't have time to mess around, they have never given me any attitude or grief, Keep up good work guys read more

I dropped my car off for an issue dealing with a noise my tire made anytime the wheel turned. I did some research before bringing it in, so I could give them some help with possible issues. Throughout the day, I received several calls issues about my car but nothing dealing with this noise. I told them that I wanted to know why this is happening so I can make the noise go away by fixing it. The man on the phone said "oh, well we don't hear a noise so it must have worked out on it's own". I felt relieved but as soon as I turned on my car, the noise was still present and even more loud. So not only did they lie, since the noise could stop traffic, they probably didn't even look at the issue once I had to explain the main reason I came in over the phone. I would have turned back around to have them to look at my car again since I PAID them for their advice but I had to go to work. I will NEVER go back and will voice my opinions to people who will listen to me. It was a waste of my time and money. PLEASE, I beg of you, don't go. After I had my issues, I talked to coworkers and they all told me about their issues with firestone. One event caused a woman's car to be undrivable and they wouldn't own up their their responsibility. If you care about your car's health and your wallet, you'll look elsewhere. read more

Im not really one to leave reviews but i think this is something that needed to be shared. I have taken my car to this Firestone before about an A/C problem, to get my oil changed, etc. This last time i needed to get an oil change and my A/C was broken again so i asked them to just take a look and give me a suggestion about what the problem is. It only took about an hour and a half when the manager came to tell me what was going on with my car. He explained that i needed a new compressor which would be about $1200 plus the other parts that HAVE to be replaced when you replace a compressor. He also told me that i needed all new tires which would be $340 each. Now I am a 20 year old female college student from Nebraska, I don't know a ton about cars but i know enough to know how to jump it and check my oil; things like that. The workers at this Firestone knew that i didnt know that much about cars and took advantage. The MANAGER told me that he didnt know how long it was going to be before my compressor died completely and that when it did it would leave me stranded on the side of the road. My plan was to take my car back home to get it fixed by a family friend but that option was now out the window if it meant i was going to end up stranded in the middle of nowhere. Thinking about it now, logically, my car would not have left me stranded if my COMPRESSOR broke. I called my step dad to explain the situation and he told me that i would be fine and that what they had told me was a complete lie. He then called Firestone and asked to speak to the person who told me about what was wrong with my car. He was never connected to the manager and instead only a worker who had overheard what i was told. The worker referred to me as "Pool Hannah". My step dad asked "so tell me how exactly a broken compressor would leave my daughter stranded on the side of the road?" and the worker said "well it wouldnt" and my step dad said "then why was she told that it would??" and then the worker said "well let me get the person who ACTUALLY talked to her" at which point my step dad just hung up. These workers tried to take advantage of the fact that i am young, female and dont know a lot about cars to make more money by making it seem like my wellbeing was in danger should i choose to continue to drive my car. What a great, professionally run and yet friendly, honest place. I've been using this Firestone Complete Auto Care operation for a long time. They've never let me down. Not once. And, if they believe a particular job is a tad bit more expansive than they'd prefer to tackle (largely due to parts availability when dealerships control access to certain parts), they'll straight away let you know. Had an oil change done today and now see I've never given Firestone the credit they've earned here in writing on YELP!. Here we go.... The General Manager, McKinley, is a super nice guy and topping that off is his vast knowledge of cars and trucks, be they with a 100k miles (and more) or brand new off the show room floor. McKinley never tries to upsell you for work or parts you don't need and he's trained his mechanics to not recommend doing that either (see what happens at some of the other joints in Lawrence). The quality of work this Firestone Complete Auto Care facility does is top notch and is done right the first time 99 times out of one hundred and on that rare occurrence when something just didn't go right, they'll get it done right fast, and how and with an apology. They back up the warranties on all the parts they sell and if you plan on keeping your car, it's always a good idea to spend just a little bit more and get the package with the lifetime warranty. Sometimes I don't get how this operation can make money: I have lifetime alignment, as an example. The guys very cheerfully check out the alignment whenever I request it....even if the car has only gone 4,000 miles since the last check. I had a wheel cylinder replaced because an idiot light kept coming on and despite their best efforts, that light would go off after they'd worked on it and then a few weeks later come back on. Not to worry: The warranty took care of everything and they even boosted me up a couple of notches quality wise relative to that particular wheel cylinder on the replacements. Too, there was no hemming and hawing about getting me in for an appointment: I went to the top of the list and the car was back in the shop in a blink. The free safety checks just aren't an effort to find problems so they can sell service and parts: They'll let you know when stuff is within factory/OEM limits and will not try to scare you into buying something. They'll get a note in your record and just monitor which is not much different than the way a good doctor handles patients. Firestone is constantly putting on promotions and discounts and coupons. Great deals, all of 'em. Having their credit card automatically gets one a discount on oil changes and on many purchases will enable you to stretch out paying for repair over six months (or however long the current promotion is running) at 0% interest. Tire rotations and wheel balancing's are a cake walk (a guy or gal has to be pretty silly NOT to purchase the road hazard; lifetime balancing; and alignment when buying tires, by the way....and yes....I have Firestone tires on the car. Firestone does have great tires and great deals. While the tire may not be that store, they can get it there typically within a few hours. This Firestone operation is locally run and managed with each and every one of the mechanics and the manager residents of our extended community. You ARE "shopping/buying local" when you use a National chain like Firestone because the employees are all from around here. I've been going so long the mechanics know me by first time and even know not to move the electric drivers seat when getting the car into the service bay! McKinley will work with you on pricing pretty much anything. He's not a "salesman" with the 900mph motor mouth "Trust me...." spiels" and he backs up all the work his shop does with no questions asked. Heck, their computer system even keeps tracks of your warranties and what services you've bought which are "...for life...". Firestone in Lawrence is where to go to get your work done. Topping it all off: There are Firestone Complete Auto Service Centers across the USA meaning the work done on your car and the warranties you have on that work and the parts travel with you (it's always good to have the paperwork on your part) so if your car breaks down when on a road trip and it involves anything associated with the work Firestone did, you've a friendly shop to locate. Yes, we have a lot of auto repair places to pick from in Lawrence, but none offer the services, the professionalism, the paper trail, the documentation, or the quality of work this Firestone provides. You're being very foolish if you, at the very least, don't get a price quote from them. Oh yeah....get a written price quote from another legit operation in town, and Firestone will meet or beat it (..or at least they used to be able to do that. doesn't hurt to check with them....the local store does take marching orders from another office in KC, so matching could change...). read more

I had the worst experience ever with Firestone about a month ago. I came into the shop because my car was overheating. They took my car and looked over it and told me that I needed a new timing belt, head gasket, and water pump. For all the parts and labor, this was going to cost me around $600. I told them no because I had the parts worked on the previous year and replaced brand new. My personal mechanic came out to Lawrence from KC and we discovered that Firestone tried to pull one over on me. All I needed to do was get a new thermometer, the parts they wanted me to replace weren't part of the problem. We put the thermometer in and drove the car around and the problem was fixed! After we came back from the car test, we let the car idle for a little to make sure there wasn't a problem, then my engine stopped. We checked the timing belt and Firestone had SLICED a portion of my timing belt, causing the rest of it to rip. I was out of a car for 2 weeks and out $400. Lawrence Firestone is a bunch of thieves that just want your money. They don't care about anything else, Let alone, I'm a college student and they knew this! Fuck this shop and fuck everyone who works in it....except JR...I'm fine with him, he was very helpful. I really want to give zero stars, but that's not an option. read more

I can usually depend on Firestone and these guys were great. I was traveling and my car developed a "funny" smell. I had no way to describe what it was or where it was. I got a flat from a nail on the way to KC, and began calling around to see which shop had the soonest available opening. Steve told me to bring it right in, so I cancelled with Midas who said it would be an hour. When I got there, I would told that it would be at least over an hour before they could get it in. Steve said he meant that I could go ahead and bring it in but that he didn't know how soon they could fit it in. I had clearly explained my predicament over the phone, and would not have driven across town to firestone had Steve been upfront about their schedule. read more

I was on my way from Wichita to Omaha, Ne during a howling blizzard on a Sunday when the "check tires" light came on, on our fairly new car. ( I had spent the night in Lawrence so the tires were "cold". ) I was so relieved to find your store open and totally surprised when one of your guys came right out and checked out the low tire. Went in here for a simple oil change after having a bad experience at another shop in town hoping that this place would be better. They tried to convince me that my brake fluid needed to be changed and it would cost $80! I said I would look into it and talked to my mechanic after I left and he said that most cars never need their brake fluid changed and that mine was completely fine. After finding that out I was really upset that Firestone would try to scare me into paying them a bunch of money for something that was completely unnecessary. Then about 3 weeks after getting my oil changed the low oil light came on so I had to go take it back in so they could reset it like they should have done in the first place. Safe to say that I will never return here and I will be warning all of my friends to not take their cars here. read more

Had two vehicles worked on within a 2 week period. One had new tires put on and they put the wrong tires on. They would have worked (right size), but they were a cheaper tire than what I ordered and they weren't balanced right and shook bad when going over 55. The other had new tires and an alignment. they had to replace a part during the alignment on one tire. Within a 2 weeks the wheel folded in on my son while on the highway. I couldn't drive ether vehicle... If that wasn't bad enough when I told them what had happened the front desk guy had a huge attitude toward me. I decided that I would talk to Firestone cooperate to help me because I just didn't trust them after the way I was talked to after they made the mistake. It took months for them to come to help me! They shuffled me from one person to another.. I ended up having to pay to have both vehicles fixed until they finally agreed to pay half of the damages.. NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

We were moving our son here and ready to head back home several states away when my battery light came on in my SUV. We ran by AutoZone to have them check the code and my alternator was on its deathbed. :( Being from out of state and not knowing anyone there, I winged it and asked the AZ guy where he recommended we go to get it fixed. He suggested Firestone which was just down the street. Honestly, I was afraid of getting screwed over, being out of town travelers and desperate to get home by a certain time but they couldn't have been nicer. They quickly ordered the part just under the wire from the cut-off to be able to get it that day. I brought it in at 11:00 a.m. and they had it repaired by 1:30; worked us in between other jobs so we could get back on the road. The cost was reasonable and I felt like they understood our situation and didn't take advantage. Our son had an issue with his truck right the day after we left him and we told him to go back to Firestone for any issues from now on. So glad there are nice and trustworthy people/businesses still. read more
