Cream spinach was ordered to accompany my ox cheeks which turned out to be so tender! However it was so rich with the red wine sauce and mash that i struggled to finish. To complete the meal I opened the gin menu which was extensive. My friend had one that changed colour where I got a sake based one. Each one was carefully presented with delicate fruits .. When it arrived i got excited with the tasty cream perched on top only to find it very thin and lacking in salted caramel taste. Regretting my choice too share one we then chose some mother clucker fries and pulled pork ones. Mine were just soggy fries with lots of cheddar on..the chicken ones did look better. As the name suggests come here if you only love chicken..you can have anything from chicken scratchings to waffles and pancakes. After ordering a stein of beer each we chose the chicken wings and I shared the big bird..two chicken breasts and lots of bacon! On the side we upgraded our fries to some cheesy ones. The wings flew in swiftly and were of good size. I wolfed three of these down immediately. Wings gone remains soon landed also. I was relieved to have shared it because even with help I still couldn't finish it. The chicken was tender and juicy..the bacon however not crispy to my liking. Service was good and the food cooked well..also nice to have a large choice of beer!

We all really enjoyed our meals ranging from the special sea bass, to fish and chips and shrimp fajitas. (They didn't call it fajitas of course but something along the line of sizzling shrimp.) The flavors were great, portion sizes were quite generous and service was good. There was plenty of seating inside and nice toilets, one complete with a diaper changing station which is always appreciative traveling with a 3 month old. We loved the food and would definitely return to try other items on the menu. The desserts weren't amazing but the dinner made up for it. Also, the pub quiz was really well done and made the night even more memorable.

We relaxed with drinks and soon enough, brought inside. The food...OMG. I had braised beef and my husband has the 3 fish trio. The food was by far some of the best we have had during our trip, We wanted the dessert but no way could we eat it. They looked so amazing too. It's pretty easy to find and is probably one of the nicer looking restaurants around in Newquay. The staff are really friendly and professional - our waiter offered to take our picture, and was generally a very nice man. We didn't have a starter, but for mains we had a sort of seafood soup, which seemed pretty good value for money, considering the amount of seafood it contained (various types of fish, three large tiger prawns, some smaller prawns, mussels, cockles and two crab claws) - it's messy, but the staff are prepared and put out all the various utensils required, including a finger bowl and antibacterial gel! (That's a first for me...!) Hubby had the steak and scallops - these are some of the freshest, sweetest scallops I've ever had. If you're feeling adventurous, I would try the Cornish mead (I had strawberry flavour) - it's very drinkable, and (in my opinion) pretty strong! But very enjoyable. Butchers' is well worth a visit if you're around Newquay.
