The small town, which has enjoyed the reputation of being an "artists' colony" for more than a hundred years, is a very touristy place - the most touristy of all in the area. So expect this pub to be busy throughout the day and into the evenings, and not just during the summer months. If you intend to eat there with a group of friends of family in the evening, a reservation is surely in order. As a single traveller you should always be able to secure a spot. The food is superior grub, and the menu streamlined as The Lifeboat Inn is part of a chain. However, on the upside you'll know what to expect.

First time here yesterday. We live locally and have started trying out different places in St Ives…read morethat we haven't been to before and it is out of season so thought it wouldn't be too busy. I feel ripped off. I ordered one of their "festive cocktails" - which I understood was a glass of Prosecco with Chambord liqueur. Pity I can't show you a photo of what I was served. Talk about a disappointment. The first odd thing was that when my partner ordered it at the bar he was told that it would be brought to our table. It is not a complicated drink so don't understand why they would say that unless they don't want you watching when they put it together. It has TWO ingredients?! Secondly when it came I was confused because I only got about half a glass of sparkling wine - could have had Chambord added or could have been rose sparkling wine. Who knows. We paid £9 for half a glass of wine which, as I said above, was a rip-off and certainly NOT worth £9. I won't be going back. Ever - you are paying over the odds for the view. I can have the view anytime I want and I don't need to ever pay £9 for half a glass of wine.

I really really despise being ripped off. We got two codfish & chips with mushy peas a pint of Leffe beer (6.2abv) and a glass of Rose wine for £23. Cod 3 stars factory made chips 1 star, mushy peas from a tin 2 stars. Value overall 4 stars. I can eat and drink far better for half the price of the harbour area here at the Trevi Fountain in Rome and the centre of Lisbon yet merchants in this town and other places we've been in Cornwall complain that Brits go to Europe for holidays. This pub is part of the Wetherspoons chain established by a Northern Irish bloke who favoured Brexit and who would likely fit into ulster unionist traditions. Locals call it Spoons. I'm no longer clear if I am an out and out hypocrite or that I'm a miserable beggar or that my not wanting to be ripped off dwarfs all else. I pay road tax and huge fuel taxes, I pay taxes when I insure my cars to go on the road so I really hate to have to pay a fourth time to park on a road. I've never been to St Ives before. It's picturesque and quaint. It has a long history and was heavily into sea fishing for its wealth but e left it thinking more about not bothering next time and go back to Spain and Portugal.

I like what they have done with the place. I can still recognise it from its previous incarnation…read more The modern refurb is a tasteful one in my opinion and the end result is smaller and cosier than your average spoons. My first choice of beer, Cornish Chough from Lizard Storm had a taste I'm not too fond of. I used to think it was a bit of a cleaning fluid like taste, but due to friends comments I've come to realise that it isn't and that it is just a personal preference. In which case it is only fair to order a second beer! That beer was Tintagel Gwaf Tan 5.8%. Now this is a beer. Talk about delicious caramel flavours...seriously..talk about them! I could happily have had more of this, if only I had time. The fire alarm went off 3 or 4 times while I was here. As they're quite new I'm going to let them off that annoyance. They did apologise and allow me a ketchup allocation for my uncle as recompense!

This is a pleasant little pub on the edge of the centre of St Ives. It has a main bar, which is…read morerather dominated by a pool table, as well as another indoor area (kind of like a conservatory) and a beer garden. The pub serves a couple of real ales and is one of the few places in St Ives that has Sky Sports, so it is useful if you want to catch the sport. They serve foodand have a lot of choice including a take away pizza option. I'm afraid I'm not sure how good the food is. I have only sampled the carvery on Sundays and I'm not a big fan of carveries (is that the plural? AnywayI was with my familysometimes you have to bite the bulletor in this case copious amounts of meat). I would expect it to be quite good though. I will come here sometimes in winter or if I am watching sport, but the pub is very child friendly. In a place like St Ives with lots of holidaymakers people often have to bring their children to the pub if they want to go out. This can mean a few too many kids to bear..especially if you enjoy a quiet pint like I do.

Popular with locals and holidaymakers alike. Owners are nice, but not overly friendly despite eating and drinking in there normally every day during our holidays in St ives. Can be very busy in there, especially in high season, but not as busy as other places in town. Bar staff will do their best to accomodate you even if all the tables are showing a reserved sign. Well worth asking. Staff have no problem with children. I would recommend it, and can't wait to go in a few weeks time.
