Our family group dropped in here for lunch, the menu was predominately sea food based so if you wanted meat ie a burger then you was out of luck. The young waiting staff where very efficient even to the point of noticing that one of us had dropped a fork whilst eating so quickly replaced it, you don't get that often. It wasn't very busy though. Most of us had fish & chips which was good & well presented but on the menu as a light bite. We had a nice table on the terrace looking over the harbour. My only criticism was that close to the serving hatch from the kitchen sat a black Labrador with a huge fresh bone!!!

They also have an extra covered patio area which appeared to be dog friendly, as well as lots of outdoor seating with lovely views of the beach. We shared the fruits de mar platter and it was more than enough for two people. You could honestly share it between three and order a side if you need more! The crab was absolutely delicious, honestly nothing was bad. The fries were some of the nicest we've had down here too. They serve Salcombe Dairy ice cream as well and the coffee and banana flavours were both really nice and not synthetic or overpowering. Definitely recommend for the views, excellent service and delicious food.

The signature Prawn Juice beer was great, as were the fries, which were sort of like small steak fries. I wasn't a fan of the shrimp sandwich. Next time I might try it without the Marie Rose sauce (which is basically fry sauce in America.) The servers were super friendly. And the outdoor seating, which consists of a number of wood picnic tables, was really nice. They have indoor seating as well. I went on a busy spring Sunday and was still able to find seating outside within a few minutes. Local tip: you can park in the neighboring public car park/parking lot next to the Winking Prawn and take a 30 min walk in to downtown Salcombe, where parking can be tricky. The walk is a bit hilly. Bring coins (GBP coins) for the paid parking, if possible! Otherwise you must download an app and pay via your phone. No credit cards at the machine. It's about 1.5 GBP/hour. You need to single pound coins, not pence.

Anyway, for 7 pounds you get a nice sized portion of crispy fish and chunky chips, a small salad, peas, buttered bread, tartare sauce, and a pot of tea! The staff were friendly and helpful and I am moving to Newquay next week so I will definitely be back. I did notice a lot of restaurants charge around 20 pounds for fish and chips but honestly this one was every bit as good! It's a simple cafe but the food tasted perfect!

This Cafe has the worst customer service I've think I've ever experienced in my life!!…read moreThe woman had a face like a smacked arse from the start. So 9 of us went in and as I'm trying to eat healthy I asked for veggie breakfast but instead of ordering the veggie sausages I asked to swap them for one egg instead, she looked at me with horror and told me no I would get what they decided. I then asked if I could have no butter on the toast as she was leave but she ignored me and stamped her feet and huffed like a child. So after a few minutes a guy came back and said the costa I had previously could not be consumed in there and at that point I decided to leave. Standing outside a table of customers left and as they were walking out I heard them say that was terrible service and I seems like they were in the same boat as me with the experience. I went to another local cafe and had an amazing experience with really friendly staff. While I was in there after my order was taken I was telling the waitress about my previous experience and another customer in front of me turned around and said I bet that's oceans Cafe. I was gobsmacked but doesn't surprise me. Less than one star from me and I truly wonder how they even a business. All you have to do is check out all the negative reviews on here which I wish I had done first.

On their website it says lunch is served from 9.15. So we get up and in the car to pick up some sandwiches. We get there at 10.05 and order, but they don't start serving lunch food till 10.30. Why state on your website a earlier time then? We've made the drive here, so say we will wait. In return we got given a look as if this was the biggest inconvenience ever. So we waited. 10.30 came and went. We wasn't sure if we could order or not - the lady didn't call us over and say 'Thanks for waiting, what would you like?'. Nothing. So we go ask 'Is it ok to order now?' with smiles on our faces. She rolls her eyes, grabs a notepad and writes down what we want - I asked a question, she couldn't even look at me to answer me, rolls her eyes again then tells us it will be a while because she's not ready. If it wasn't for my boyfriend really wanting to eat here, I would have just walked out and not got the sandwich. In fact, I did walk out and left him to pay. I'm not rude and I don't expect people to be rude back to me. I understand you might be busy, so just explain and all will be cool. What makes it weirder is that I heard her being polite to a local. So maybe as a visitor to your lovely village (as one who might not return for a while) we don't deserve the same respect. The sad part is our sandwiches were good. Really good. My tuna melt was the best I've ever had and it was a really good price at £12 for two sandwiches and drinks. But would I go back while on holiday here? Nope.

Great little deli, bobbed in for a wood baked pizza, spot on.read more
