Lesley was my stylist! She was incredibly talented and sweet. If you need your hair color corrected, I would definitely recommend her! My hair was damaged from previously red then black hair dyes that I had did at home. I called ahead of time to let her know I had hair with color bands and so many shades of orange and brown. Lesley recommended I come in for a test strand prior to the appointment. She was very honest yet professional that I might not be able to get to my desired color but was still confident that she could get it to something close. During the appointment she was attentive and held great conversations! In the end I left with hair better than I imagined. It's been 3 mo and my hair is aging like fine wine! Although the color has faded, it looks amazing still. Other staff members were pleasant and helpful at check in and check out! Not to mention the studio is so cute. Eon the Hair Stylin' Vixen is a skilled professional! I appreciate the way she listens without interruption, and validates with positive affirmations. My hair is fine, wavy and there's lots of it. I usually have anxiety and dread getting my hair done, but not today! I felt safe asking for a horizontal, blunt cut. It turned out BETTER than it has in YEARS! It's clear Eon is a gifted hair designer who loves her place of work. Firefly Salon is more like a professional artist colony than a corporate cookie cutter salon. I am obsessed with my color and love my stylist! Eon has perfected my redheadcolordreams. She really has mad skills! Everywhere I go, I get stopped by at least one person complimenting my hair color! And even, yes, asks "Is that your natural color?" She truly listens to your desires, explains how to get them (honest and realistic time and price) She is worth her weight in gold. Todd, one of the owners cut my hair a few times. The haircuts were fine, although he seemed to go with his preference over my explanation when it came to length. No big deal, the cuts were nice. Unfortunately, he really enjoyed mocking and judging the pedestrians walking on the street outside his window. Frequently putting down people for their clothes or style. Occasional he threw in a McDonalds reference for someone over weight. After several visits of witnessing this behavior, I had enough. The constant negativity and "better than thou" attitude was too much for me. read more

I recently had Ashley do a brand new balayage to my hair to make it lighter. I color my own roots because I have a fair amount of gray that grows out quickly and I don't live close by. She helped me come up with a great plan for this based on some pictures I showed her. I absolutely LOVE the caramely highlights and the cut cleaned up my ends a lot. Love Firefly for the great atmosphere, the lovely staff and most importantly for the fantastic styles I always leave with! You can't go wrong with any of the stylists at Firefly, they're knowledgeable, friendly, and they actually listen to your hair dreams and hopes (and will tell you if your dream is attainable or not!). While I like to play around with the occasional fun colors in my hair, I typically go for a natural highlight or balayage style, depending on the season. I love my layers and easy style - Ashley always goes above and beyond my expectations (Ashley gave me amazing rose gold highlights in the spring - I wish I were disciplined enough to keep that look but I like hot showers!). I consistently receive compliments about my hair and, even though I live in another state, I always schedule my hair appointments at Firefly when I come home for a visit. I had never been here before but found this salon to be a reasonably priced place for wedding hair/makeup. I had my wedding hair done by Todd and makeup by 'eon, and had other members of my wedding party also have their hair done here. I am very appreciative for the flexibility in scheduling, willingness to listen to what we wanted, and the opportunity to go through a full dry run. Bronwyn does a good job with coloring, but I miss my old colorist who gave more input and suggestions. Grade - B Todd- 2 good haircuts, 1 haircut that was so bad I went to another salon and had it fixed. When you have 3 inches of length cut off and no one mentions anything... Its a bad haircut. Grade - C- The biggest reason for my rating is while sitting in Todd's chair getting my haircut and having to listen to him critique every person who walked down the street. It was a beautiful day with lots of foot traffic, Clothes, shoes, hair- all were remarked on and not in a nice manner. I finally said that I would never walk past his shop again and he didn't get the message. Grade - F Not a relaxing or fun experience, guess I am not the catty type. read more

I really wanted to like this place, largely because of the rave reviews I hear all over the island, from a wide range of people. I gave it more than one shot, but I have to say I left disappointed twice. It's not necessarily because of my hair, either. The color was mediocre both times--not really what I wanted and asked for, but it looks fine (it's just not exciting). The cut was fine, maybe even great, but I still left feeling disappointed. I think it's largely because of the unfriendly attitude I recieved both times. The first time, I thought maybe it was just an off day. But the second time sealed it for me. Unfriendly, and at times, everyone just seemed bored. But, since I have to sit in the chair for 2 hours, I'd like an environment that is at least pleasant to be in, as well as professional and high quality. Bronwyn colors my hair, and makes it a very natural, warm auburn that I really love. When needed, either Bronwyn or Todd cuts my hair, and they cut it just the way I want - just a short trim off the bottom. The atmosphere is always warm, cheerful and positive. Regardless of the fact that I always arrive a bit early or on time, After many years, I have NEVER been taken when I walk in. I ALWAYS have to wait. This time I knew I had to leave for a ferry in 90 minutes but I thought that would be enough time for a cut and partial foils. The stylist knew my schedule. I had to leave before the cut. I got a cut later from a different place--a terrible haircut. Plus the foils don't show at all. $125 for nothing!! read more

My mom, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, and I got our hair and makeup done here this Saturday for my wedding. We'd come in to see Todd before to give him a basic idea of what we wanted, and he was very gracious making room in a busy Saturday to play with our hair and let us know how confident he was doing x or y or whatever we were thinking. On the day of, we got a little behind schedule because only Todd was doing makeup. However, we still made it out by 1 PM and Bronwyn did a lovely job with my hair. They listened to my mother-in-law when she said she wanted a simple hairdo and makeup. AND, they used my mom's hair extensions and put them in for her, so she could have the updo she's always wanted. Ashley saved my life by fixing my botched yellow streaks near my roots that I had gotten done at Erickson Salon a month before, and turned it into the silvery blonde balayage ombré style I had wanted. I have never seen anyone leave the salon with a bad cut - everyone is talented! Hallie cuts my hair and I think she's fabulous. She listens to what I say and doesn't try to talk me into anything. For the first time in my life, I don't have one complaint about my cut. I don't have great hair and have bounced from one expensive salon to another looking for a stylist who doesn't try to turn me into something I'm not. A very big disappointment! Planning to give my self a treat and go to an upscale salon on the Island, however, what I received was a hit or miss "Great Clips" experience for the upscale price! The hairstylist I was assigned, Leslie, was inexperienced in hair color and lacked any polish or professional courtesies. After spending my entire afternoon in the salon to have my color done, I left with it still not being right. The first attempt the color didn't take, and the second was much too dark. I had to get up and interrupt Leslie to have her check my color during the second process and then she handed me off to another stylist...which by the way was a blessing. During the experience of sitting in the salon for hours, I felt I was somewhat invisible and a "bother". The receptionist seems to be the only person who smiles, she was very sweet and genuine. read more
