I also like to know that the money I spend stays locally. I found just that place in the Grand Motel in Hastings, Nebraska. I chose the Grand over the other local places because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews posted on the Internet. I was not disappointed. Despite arriving rather late at night, the owner greeted me with a smile and a hearty "welcome to Hastings". Parking was plentiful and backing a 20 foot truck and car trailer was easy. The 60-year-old motel is charming and boasts a nuts and bolts attitude that provides the essentials for a weary traveler. The room was clean and agreeable. The microwave was clean and the fridge was a standard sized unit found in almost all hotels and motels. Free wi-fi was a treat. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean and provided the essentials (towels, soap, shampoo, and conditioner). Free breakfast is available upon request as are other amenities such as an iron and ironing board. The area is safe, quiet, close to restaurants and other services. I slept well and woke up refreshed, ready for the long day ahead of me. Thank you Mike, I look forward to staying at the Grand again!

The arcade is a great price and the room itself was very nice. The front desk was very accommodating. Breakfast is not included which is disappointing, the only option is at the sub-par restaurant. The room was fine except for two things: the fridge ran for long periods of time, really loudly. The toilet ran also. I unplugged the fridge and shut the bathroom door; I didn't bother alerting the to these issues given my initial experience at checkin. The TV also seemed to have spotty service--wavy lines through the middle of the screen. It's nice that they have a pool but it was so heavily chlorinated that my skin started itching and tingling about five minutes in. Given the plethora of other hotels in that area, I wouldn't bother with this one, especially at that price point.

We actually drove by this place earlier today. Beautiful boarding house. Restaurant in a separate building which appears newer. And here we are after dinner on friday night. All foods were basic prep of days past. So...rather plain, not much seasoning. But real good handmade everything. We selected brisket and chicken. Both were good. Scalloped potatoes and baked beans, also real good. Beans probably our favorite. Dessert of a brownie and mud pie cake. The cake was new for us. A glass of white moscato was good.
