I was more than happy to shop while she looked over my items. The store is bright and clean without too many cluttered racks or shelves of knickknacks. Each clothing item is hand-picked and selected for sustainability and eco-friendliness, so I wouldn't recommend coming in expecting to pay the same prices you would for clothing or toys at Walmart or Target. The great thing about consigning is that if you choose to take store credit, you will get a higher value for the items you sell. I was very pleased to hear this, and more than willing to purchase other consignment items for my own daughter. I love the idea of consigning and thrifting rather than purchasing things new whenever I can, and this is a great way to do that while also supporting small business. I was so blown away by the selection of items and the customer service that I have since been back twice since my first visit. I certainly plan to keep taking the items my daughter outgrows to shop the other consigned items here. My visit here was on August 29, 2024. This store is very easy to see when entering into Pembroke Square from Virginia Beach Blvd. Parking in front of the store is limited, but there is other parking available as well, so there is plenty to go around. When I first came in, it looks similar to other locations, except that it is a much larger location. There was quite a bit of stuff to choose from. At the time, there were lots of fall and Halloween themed items here. They always seem to have some type of sale going on, and this time was no different. I explored the store for a while to see what they had. On this particular visit, I didn't find anything I wanted to get that day, but that doesn't mean anything as I wasn't necessarily looking for anything in particular. I ended up not staying too long because it was hot in there that day as their A/C had gone out. Overall, the staff were very friendly and helpful for any questions. Since they are a larger location and have more things to choose from, I will be back in the future to see what else I can find there. I like that they change with the seasons and holidays. The owner and her staff are just the sweetest people and they genuinely love to see you come in whether you are coming in to take a look around or on a mission to get some retail therapy! This shop is PACKED with so many goodies that it's hard to see it all in one visit. They change the layout of the store quite often. Every time you go, I notice something new and I love that things are sold in limited quantities except for a few items and brands. Keeps things fresh. The owner likes to do her own retail therapy by shopping for the store and sometimes, she'll only buy a limited quantity and once that item is gone, it's gone! They put batteries in the things that require them so you can see that they work. If they miss something and it doesn't have batteries, they offered to put batteries in it so that you can see that it functions properly before purchasing. It's clear that they care very much about their inventory and the way it is organized. The clothing and toys are all clean and easy to see. During our first visit I bought a couple of clothing items and a baby swing. We were so excited to find this item at a reasonable price, in good operation and clean. The "lost star" - and my only qualm - is that during my second visit to this location, after we had been browsing for a bit, the conversation at the front register turn to politics (it's a pretty small store so any conversation reaches the whole store). I stayed and waited for it to end, but it drug out and they kept discussing... The cashier/owner did nothing to redirect the conversation and continued to engage in discussion about politics. To be honest, I don't necessarily disagree with the things that they were saying... I am just so tired of listening to politics everywhere I go. Before leaving, I did say something to the owner and (I thought, politely) let him know that I was uncomfortable trying to browse while they were discussing religion and politics. This is dangerous for a teething necklace and they should fit a bit more snugly. I brought it back the next morning and was told no refunds at all and it was shocking I was even allowed to exchange the day before. I said I was quite frustrated that both experiences at this local shop have now been negative and the blonde employee there(different from the red headed one the previous day) told me that she didn't understand why I was frustrated with her since she can't change policy. While this is correct, she is the face of the company during my interaction, so unfortunately she is the one receiving my dissatisfaction. She offered a one time in store credit, which I declined. I walked to the door and informed her that I had no desire to bring any of my business to this store again and it's been a huge waste of my time. She said under her breath as I walked out the door, "YOU NEED SERIOUS HELP." I'm sorry, but that is absolutely uncalled for. A charming sidewalk chalkboard sign greets you before you even enter the store. The handiwork on the sign is done by a local artist which speaks to the nature of Texture. As you enter the shop, you will find it proudly supports local artists of Coastal Virginia from Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, and more. I'm always impressed by the jewelry, hand designed greeting cards, pottery, and accessories that the owner finds for the store. She or any other "Texurette" will happily tell you about the origins of any item. The ladies who work in the shop (Texurettes, as they are fondly called) are always friendly and helpful if you are looking for something particular. They offer complimentary gift wrapping in adorable gift bags tied with ribbon. Every time I give a gift in a Texture bag the recipients eyes light up! You will find a price range for every wallet. The businesses are wide ranging which can make them a one stop, however keep in mind it's up scale. I think a few have been in the center day one like Bakers Crust, but speculation on my part. One of the newest that has been a welcomed edition is May's Parlor offering bakery & coffee items. They expanded from Virginia Beach and a fave of mine. My most recent visit was at Jen's Pownd Cakes which is absolutely wonderful and worth my drive from Virginia Beach. Totally recommend! It's been a few years for Baker's Crust, but is a solid brunch option. Also a very popular furniture store Decorum has been a staple for decades with trendy furnishings. A few others have come and gone since COVID, but have been replaced. The center enjoys almost 100% occupancy. So again, not a local to Ghent, but a shopping area I enjoy when coming into town.
