I used a Fired Earth national trust paint on my bedroom walls. I primed and wash the walls twice prior to painting. It is a new home and all my brushes and rollers were new. When I opened the tin it smelt odd but as it has a low VOC content I put it Down to this. Once on the walls the smell became over bearing (smelt like dogs blankets) I opened the windows and left for four days. I could not sleep in the room and I had to sleep in y son bunk bed. I telephoned the Oxford branch And she said she would speak to their factory. I had a call back to say the paint may have been contaminated with my brushes/rollers.
I rang back after leaving the windows open and said I wanted a refund as I was unable to sleep in the room. I took the paint back and got a refund, the tin was sent off to be tested.
After three weeks (and little sleep) I rang head office who after I insisted the paint was off, as the room did not smell prior to,painting, I was offer the price of an industrial seal paint and they would contact me re the out come of the tin that was tested. I never heard back, I did ring again but again no call back. I visited head office and customers services refused to walk Twenty steps to speak to me.
I had to have the room reprinted twice once to get rid of the smell and again to redecorate at the cost of £500. Please use other brands, paints do sometimes go off, but there is just no recourse, the lack of concern that I was unable to sleep in my own room was distressing to say the lease. read more
