The FB Art Market was a benefit for the Lisa Tonna Fund. Lisa is a 37 year old anti-tobacco advocate who is battling the disease she's been fighting to save others from: lung cancer.
So, that being said, I feel like a complete dick for giving a bad review to a fund raiser. What if I give a big fat, five star review to their awesome intentions and two scrawny stars to their product selection.
Waiting outside for friends, we watched the hipsters parade inside. We weren't sure if we'd be allowed in since we didn't have our ironic mustaches, skinny black jeans, foppy unkempt hairdo's or checkered Vans. But, thankfully, there was no dress code. I didn't tell them I hate The Decemberists, because lord knows that would've been a deal breaker.
The space upstairs was nice but really cramped. even before going upstairs we knew what homemade goods would be on sale - wallets, cutesy change purses, cupcakes, weird shit made out of ties, cuffs, silkscreened tshirts, messenger bags and odd plushy dolls. We were 100% right.
The thing is, if you're doing a fund-raiser, you really ought to have lots of affordable stuff. If you didn't want to drop $18 on a pocket notepad, there just wasn't enough little stuff to buy. I felt bad, but there was no way I could $40 on a stuffed thing with a weird face & three arms. read more
