My fiancé and I are not dancers in any sense of the word but for our wedding we really wanted to make an effort and have our first dance to Time of My Life from the Dirty Dancing movie. With only 2 months to go we reached out to Firebeat and were teamed up with Vlad, our personal dance instructor. Vlad's warm personality and sense of humor put us at instantly at ease. We could tell that Vlad quickly assessed our (meager) level of ability and by considering the time available Vlad planned out about 8 classes in which we learned the basics of the dance. We had a very open dialogue about what we could and couldn't realistically achieve in the time available, and Vlad put together a routine that looked instantly recognizable to the audience but didn't require super-human efforts on our part. We just finished up a month of practices with Mr. Bradford for our wedding ceremony next month, wanting to add a little flair to our reception instead of the standard slow dancing that can bore your guests. Neither of us have ever done any dancing beyond a nightclub and were as green as can be. Our instructor was extremely patient, informative and taught us the basics to the somewhat medium level moves. We were even offered a free class where six different dances were introduced, from swing to rumba. The studio itself is rather modern and spacious, apparently 7000 sq. feet. There are nice bathrooms, changing locking room area, a water fountain for filling up your water bottle and a smoothie/coffee area if you could get there early enough to find it open. I loved the late hours and how we were able to book instruction at 9:00 at night so I didn't need to worry if I was working late, getting home in time to eat and then heading out again for our session. Ching owns it with her husband and she was very welcoming both over email communication to start and then at the front desk upon our arrival. We were a bit nervous at first as to what to expect and she put us at ease. We are already talking about returning after the wedding to learn a ton more because we still feel like infants on the dance floor. My only issue with the studio if I had one would be to put wedding couples in the private studio in the back. It was often intimidating to watch the professionals around us while we were extreme beginners. I was somewhat embarrassed that we could be seen making mistake after mistake for something that was likely very simple to others in the room. We had instruction one night in the back during the free class and I didn't feel nearly as self conscious. We can't tell you how much we love Firebeat!!! My wife, Liz, and I recently got hitched in July and did dance lessons with the infamous Brad Lowe. I have to give Brad a lot of credit for taking on this challenge considering the odds against him!!! I guess I should preface this by saying I'm 6'3", at the time 250lbs, and we wanted to do a swing dance and foxtrot in 7 weeks. We honestly had no idea what we were doing. I for one didn't know what a foxtrot or swing dance really was, and I still can't count the rhythm of a song. Brad introduced us to dance by helping us explore all our options and how each best paired with songs that we love. From there, we had 10 or so lessons that helped us to learn and get comfortable in the routine. The swing dance was a HUGE hit at the wedding!!! We weren't sure we would be able to pull it off, but somehow we made it without a face plaint! I'm glad that it all worked out, but even more pumped that we have a new activity to do together : ) Throughout the entire process, Liz and I had an absolute blast. You wouldn't believe how much fun it is to dance with your significant other. We looked forward to it every week! Brad had a lot to do with this too, he is one special guy who knows how to have a good time, even when the routine wasn't working out quite right. We ended up becoming good friends and invited him to the wedding. He came and put on a show that people would pay money for!!! Not sure what is the hype about this studio. I originally purchased a four pack of classes through Groupon. The first class (intro to ballroom) which I took was good but it was tough to tell for sure if I was into it as it was the first time I've ever done ballroom. The second class I took (intro to social latin) left me wondering what is the real knowledge of people who teach here is. The swing and hustle dances were taught. Now, I am not sure how you start with a latin dance in the class title, and you teach swing practiced to modern day pop music. I have had much better swing dance class experiences at other studios closer into Boston. At the end of the second class, I asked Vlad to confirm the Intro to Ballroom was on for that next night as that would be Valentines Night. He said it was on, but was unsure of the time, so I checked with the monthly programming calendar on their website to confirm that it was indeed on. I got to the door that next night, only to learn that the intro to ballroom class that night was cancelled, as the only offering that was available was a special couples dance. Well, there goes a dance class that I paid for, but couldn't use due to their tight 30 day window to use a 4 pack of classes that is only valid for 2 possible class times per week. I felt it was kind of strange that they left essentially leaving out a big chunk of their demographic out in the cold on a night they should be doing their heaviest volume of business at a place with 3 different rooms. read more

Went with the hubby for a free intro salsa lesson and we are signed up for more! We have been checking out other studios around for private lessons and this place won us over. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The dance studio is among the most gorgeous and spacious that I have ever seen. I have been dancing for nearly 30 years (not ballroom, but other styles)....so I have seen a lot of spaces. I was so impressed. The space was very clean and neat. They also have a parking lot which is not always something you find. Easy to find, well signed to get there...oh there is a cafe in the lobby...how cool is that? I will definitely grab a beverage or a snack some night before a lesson. Our instructor was nice and funny. Made us feel comfortable and worked in our comfort zone. I just started going to Firebeat with 2 girlfriends and we all LOVE it‼ None of us has any dancing experience but I have a son getting married so I am taking a few private lessons with Brad plus drop in ballroom dance class with 2 friends. Both are amazing and Brad has gone above and beyond, making a video I have forwarded to my son in California. It didn't matter that we initially all had two left feet. Great instruction and in two weeks we have learned SO much. Lots of classes so we will try more. VERY reasonable, especially the drop in classes. Lots of laughs, and the owner Ching is so sweet. While Firebeat is initially a captivating studio due to the beautiful design, adorable cafe and charm of the instructors, additional information should be provided to those interested in becoming a member at this studio. They work to churn out great competitive dancers, but don't often have the dancers well-being in mind. Firstly, Andre is a fantastic instructor and dancer. He is essentially the lifeblood of the studio and attracts a lot of talent. It's important to note that a few of the students at this studio exhibit quite a bit of talent. On another note, Ching is a bit of a wildcard. Pay her lots of money and compliments, and you'll be elevated to a special social hierarchy within the studio. She will love you. However, this can change very quickly, should your budget change. This sudden change can leave you feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. A lot of the other reviews come from friends, family and students all looking to boost support for the studio, but also in order to gain more respect and attention from the instructors. Instructor attention waxes and wanes based on what you can provide them. I was asked to write a review prior to leaving the studio but am only now getting around to it. I was a member of the studio from June 2015 - January 2016. I attended 1 competition with them and did fairly well for a first-timer. At the end of the day, this is a business. The instructors aren't your friends, but rather people you pay to aid in your success as a dancer. If the instructors at this studio feel like they can push you to purchase more products, packages, private lessons, etc., - they will - and as soon as they realize that you aren't easy to sell to, they'll either ask you to leave or they'll suggest that you take group classes, but nothing more. If you're the sort of person looking to make close friendships or are interested in this studio for the social aspect, I don't recommend it. I took about 8 private lessons in Latin for preparation for silver this past fall and my results have been amazing. With his experience he helped us create a wonderful first dance. We did multiple dance moves, including several dips and my husband picking me up in the air twice. My Wedding party is still talking about it (some even say it was better than dancing with stars). They almost all to a T say it was the best first dance they ever saw. We had a Newport RI wedding in a beautiful venue looking over the ocean and what more people remember the most is our first dance. We couldn't ask for a better instructor. Astonishingly, they told her "we are artists, we don't talk about price', and demanded her to just pay what was asked of her and not ask any more questions. My husband and I took seven lessons from Brad at Firebeat Dancesport Studios. Brad helped us choreograph and perfect our first wedding dance. He was enthusiastic and supportive of our somewhat non-traditional song choices (a Stevie Wonder and Beyonce medley)! Brad edited our music and emailed it to us. He even wrote us a handwritten letter to express how much he enjoyed working with us. The studio itself is very cool looking--it's the third floor of an old firehouse. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. The owner, Ching, really went out of her way to make us feel welcome. During our last lesson before the wedding, the staff went above and beyond to make our last rehearsal feel like the real thing by dimming the lights and providing an audience. My husband and I are beginners on the dance floor, so I can't really speak to how well Firebeat instructs more advanced dancers. However, if you are looking for a flexible, fun atmosphere to create your first wedding dance, I highly recommend this studio. My fiance and i signed up for dances classes for our wedding a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately last night my fiance came down with a stomach bug. She called the place this morning to let them know we wouldn't make the class (mind you the place doesn't open till 2:00pm and closes at 10:00pm). She then came to find out that her credit card was charged $49 dollars regardless for the class that we cant attend. I then called after finding out her card was charged and spoke to a girl and retold her that my fiance got sick last evening with a stomach bug and was vomiting all night. The girl i spoke to mentioned that they follow a strict cancellation policy ouy of fairness to the instructors. i thought it was fair that we called this morning (even though the place was still closed) and notified them. I find it ridiculous that this was going to be our first time attending a class there and to be charged for it and not able to go. I will not be scheduling another class at this place. read more

I discovered the studio last year when I started taking fitness classes and I started taking ballroom dance classes this year and was really pleased. The teachers are very committed and love what they do, professional and are very interested in the progress made by their students.The classes are small in size which helps to get a lot of personal attention. Within a week I already saw progress and was able to do the moves on my own. Great studio, I would highly recommend. It has a great design and lots of space. read more
