So pulled up into the car park, two degrees outside and 'are we human or are we dancer' coming out of the radio as I turned off the engine. First duty was into a nearby supermarket for a soft white bread pan. When it's fish n chips it has to be tea, bread and lots of butter. A good sprinkling of salt on the fish n chips too. Carbs, animal fats and hardly a healthy calorie in sight. So into the chip shop to a friendly welcome from a man, certainly didn't look like Paula but it's a funny old world so I thought better than to ask. Two fish and chips please (or as we used to say: two fish suppers) £11.60 was required. I checked it was cod and he almost seemed taken aback at my question - he said, 'of course'. I waited a bit pleased that the food was being cooked to order. The portions of cod were huge, with fresh, white chunky and skinless meat. If you aren't sure how fresh cod tastes try it here as it's very fresh. I thought each chip portion was a tad mean but once home and in the plate it was generous enough. The food is cooked in beef dripping. There is no substitute good enough, groundnut, peanut, rapeseed, olive, corn oils none come close. The batter was towards thin and I like that, and to be fair the food sat in a take out bag until I got home and put out the plates and do on. Despite this the food was excellent, perfectly good food and still quite warm. A chip buttie was a must. Now I've eaten some of the finest foods on earth but I gotta tell ya the taste of a white soft pan bread chip buttie with a bit of salt and a generous slap of butter is wonderful made all the better with hot tea. The glowing reviews are right, it's a great place. The next time I want very good fish & chips I know where to go. Maybe next time I'll sit in and have it at its very best. Who knows now that oil prices have fallen the prices here should drop too.

The two places I wanted to be open weren't - Soi 9 Thai & Dragon Express - so I ended up here as it was one of two Chinese take outs with lights on. Spice of India on the same almost empty street was open but if you read my review on it you'll see why I opted for Chinese. I didn't know what I wanted to eat but my wife had decided on salted chilli chicken, so when I looked at the menu it had a meal for two deal at £13.80 that included salted chilli chicken so I ordered it. The deal was this chicken meal, chicken fried rice, chicken curry, a tub of curry sauce, cheap and unpleasant, pre prepared prawn crackers and a small portion of chips. The food was a bit better than ok but I couldn't say it was really good so a border line three stars. And while it was ok it's certainly not on my return visit list.

We added 2 apple pies so sterling total about £6.80. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food cooked to order because of the Big Mac without cheese and Mac sauce so we took a seat and the food was brought to us. But but I'm scoring this place well down from 4 to 2 star as the disabled loo door is almost impossible to open and impossible to close. I tried to help a disabled chap open the door wide enough and I could barely shift it and I'm a powerful 6' 3' so very far away from being acceptable. Lousy management again. No shortage of lousy managers and sadly miserable owners about. Oh and Guangxi produces over 80% of the world's star anise so it has something going for it.

Supermac's is a combination of the speed and convenience of a Mc Donald's but has more of the quality standard of a local chip shop or takeaway. Its menus consists of a combination of the most popular of al the big fast food outlets, including chicken meals like KFC and burger meals like in Mc Donald's. The standard is always good if you just want a quick bite to eat. Everything is always well cooked and things are served fast, which are the main things you are looking for in a fast food outlet. Where it has the edge on takeaways and chip shops is its small but perfectly formed deserts range, as it has a lot of keenly priced ice cream sundaes and muffins that are very nice for the minimal price! My best Supermac's memory thought is as part of the Des Bishop Work Experience that was on RTE a few years ago.
