In the city of STL, I had been with the same mom and pop company for 18 years, so I was kinda spoiled. They knew me and took good care of my heating and cooling systems. After one visit from Barrett, I already feel safe and "at home" with my new heating & cooling company. Barrett was highly recommended not only by cousins, but also my real estate agent and my new neighbors. I received excellent customer service over the phone while scheduling my first appointment. The young lady also answered all my questions professionally. I knew about their plan to do regular seasonal maintenance and signed up it. Plans like this are always a good savings and keeps your systems in good running condition. When the service man arrived for my first appointment, he wore a face mask, put protective slippers over his shoes and when speaking with me, kept a safe social distance. He examined my furnace and we talked about the age of it and my also my A/C. In his professional opinion, they're both in good condition. Will I return? - They'll return, when it is time to do my A/C check-up. When: November 4, 2020 Why: Seasonal Service

After I left tech alone for 15 minutes he ask me to come back in the basement with. While there he said have smelt gas. We had not. The tech put on a show of looking for a gas leak and lo and behold he found a leak at hot water heater. Did not ask if I wanted him to tighten coupling just pulled out a crescent and snugged it up. Charged about $60 for this service. Wondering if anyone else has left Barrett tech alone for long enough for them to find "a gas leak"? Feels very suspect to me.

September 11th started a horrific journey in having our HVAC replaced/installed by "J & J…read moreMechanical and HVAC" out of Godfrey, IL (https://jjmechanicalllc.com/). They were to arrive around 11am. Received no communication all day. They arrived at 7pm and put both the Air Handler and Condensing Unit in our garage. Said they would return the next day between 8-9am as it gets very hot in the attic after 1pm. September 12th, they arrived a 12:30pm with no communication. They quickly did get to work dismantling the old system outside/in the attic and staged both units. They hooked everything up using OLD existing copper piping by soldering it together. The copper piping leading to the handler in the attic was bent, crimped badly to the point not much would be able to pass through. See pictures. They used an old water drain tube that had build up and didn't suggest getting a new one. I took it upon myself to run to ACE and get a new drain hose (75 foot $75) The team worked with our electrical panel and caused an issue that they said they would fix by replacing the breaker. They didn't plug the washer back in to test it and left the cord hanging over the washer. When I plugged it back in sparks flew out of the outlet frying the motherboard....we had to buy a new washing machine. They company took no responsibility for this fault though they admitted to replacing the breaker. Complaints constantly from one of the workers in the attic about how hot it was up there. If they had arrived early in the morning, as they promised, it would not have been as terrible. No cool air upstairs for 5 days. System kept backing up due to poor draining work. Gravity was not considered. They created a Water Trap but didn't even glue the pvc parts together.....every day, water pouring from our ceiling when they said they fixed it. The water trap was laid sideways due to how low the drain was on the handler. They didn't even consider a way to raise up the handler (All Season Heating and Cooling actually built a metal box to put under the handler to raise the drain up, but this was after J & J did their 'handywork'). My wife has MS and had to be taken to the hospital for medication infusion due to the extreme heat on our 2nd floor where the bed is. Every night was around 88 degrees upstairs. Couldn't sleep downstairs due to specialized MS equipment that had was installed by the bed. This cannot be relocated except for proper medical staff. Had to bear it. J & J didn't care and their office manager (owner's wife) said we should sleep downstairs anyway. I told the warranty company to not send them again. We hired another company, All Seasons Heating and Cooling. Showed them the issues. They called and sent their electrician and local code personnel for Belleville, and everyone gasped at the work that was done. Code personnel called the city and found that J & J Mechanical never pulled permits to do work with the HVAC not to mention the electrical work. The cable for the heat/furnace was the wrong size/gague and could have set our house on fire if we would have started the heater....by the time we would have realized there was a fire, the attic would have burnt out and we would could have died. The irony is that they invoiced us for $700 for that specific cable and installation. All Seasons re-installed everything perfectly, raised the handler up to a higher point by building a metal box to match, used NEW copper piping and contracted their electrician to provide the correct gauge wire/cable for the furnace. We have new air perfect...no more lakes (this went way past leaks) of water to sop up on the 2nd floor. DO NOT do business with J & J MECHANICAL. They are horrible with communication and cut every corner to make more money, then walk away! If you do use them, ensure they have pulled permits to work on your HVAC and/or electrical.

J&J was assigned to us through our home insurance that was added when we purchased our house…read more(American Home Shield). Owner was honestly very kind and talked us through what needed to be done when he came out to look at our AC & heat. Both were replaced. Office staff were super nice, and we felt really positive about the experience up front! We are first time homeowners so we were anxious. The issues were when the work actually happened. They said it would likely take one day, but two was possible. Day one, they arrived closer to 11am after saying they'd be there in the morning. They showed up, stayed for MAYBE an hour an then took lunch. They did not return to our home until almost 3pm. It was at least 2 hours they were gone. They worked until about 5pm, and then left for the day. Neither unit was done, and we didn't have AC that night. I understand if they couldn't install it day one, but we were not warned and had two pets in the house. Still -- no big deal, I figured we are new to this, that's on us. Day 2 was a mess. Both I and my mother called them several times. They had not given us a time the previous day, they just said they'd be by in the morning. We did not see them until almost noon, and that was after we called multiple times just asking when we could expect them. They finally showed up, and then IMMEDIATELY went to lunch. At this point we said something because they had just arrived and done next to nothing. Thankfully, they only took a half hour lunch this time. They came back, and stayed until around 6pm. The owner did not stay at all that second day. When the two gentlemen he had working for him were done, they packed up, the owner drove by and talked to them, then they all went home. The owner did not come in to check the work. They did not test our heater before leaving and just left us with the manuals. Two days after, I called the office because my husband and father tested the heater, and water started POURING from the unit. The owner said he "might" be able to come by and take a look that night. He did not (it was 5pm, so again, no issues there, he was likely off the clock). After that however, they never called us or tried to come take a look. Thankfully a family friend who is an HVAC tech came by this week to check the work. He informed us that the pipes added had not been glued together (which he said was code) and the units were left in factory settings. He also informed us that the drain hose they attached was a leftover piece we already had in the basement and was not draining. He stayed for almost 2 hours settings things up and fixing poor work. I try to avoid negative reviews -- I really do. But we received very poor service and the gentleman/owner were incredibly unprofessional. I'm not sure what they did in our basement for almost two days...but it wasn't much. Oh, and they smoked in our basement -- we had to clean up the cigarette butts. If you are assigned J&J for your HVAC, unfortunately I have to suggest you push for another company. We were optimistic until that first afternoon, and then when I googled them I saw a few very poor reviews, and they were not unfounded.

We had a very old system and desperately needed the upgrade. Every single part of our experience was seamless, professional, and excellent! We called on a Friday and we had a crew working the next week, completing the process in just two days. From the start of working with King, it was easy! John D. came to our home, explaining what we had, what was needed and what options we had to get the most from our hvac system. He was polite, professional and very informative. He wasn't just selling stuff to sell it, he really gave us confidence from the start, knowing his information and being able to explain the options and different brands and systems to us. We were even able to get a new filter system that only needs changed once a year to save on replacement costs. We also now have a working humidifier system too! Then meeting the install pros, like Mike W. He continued to add to my confidence in King Heating and Cooling. He came in very friendly introducing himself and his crew (he did this any time a new tech would come out), explaining what would happen, answering questions I had going into the install day, and was very respectful of my property (asking where they could park, laying down protective sheets to cover flooring & stairs and they all wore booties over their boots to make sure and show the upmost respect and politeness). I appreciated that and actually didn't even expect that! I also was grateful of how John D came to make sure all was going well on the job. What company do you know of that provides this type of quality assurance, none that I know! King is different, they're not only experienced, but they go above and beyond for their customers! Mike W made sure to help set up our new thermostat and walked me through the app process and answered all questions. The whole experience was exceptional! It's a huge purchase and you want to have confidence that every part of the process is smooth. King knows just how to do that. They have a very kind office staff that welcomes you in and creates a pleasant phone experience too. They also provide updates any time your technician is coming out, sending you a text with their picture and a bio about them. I loved that. Taking extra safety precautions like this is important in our world today. I'm so happy we went with King Heating and Cooling! We'd recommend them to everyone! From start to finish, you will be taken care of with professionalism, expertise and excellence!
