Food was served barley warm - and service was beyond slow. Took 35 minutes to get our bill. Was not impressed

Now the menu items are like club sandwiches, fish and chips, salad with a protein, fried chicken... a departure from the local fresh and uniquely marketed local fresh items that were unique. There is nothing special about this two can dine menu- and many are more lunch favourites. The two can dine date night menu isn't even available for lunch- which is where it belongs. Service has gotten slower, maybe staff cutback? But I've seen the same number of staff members. It took about 2 hours to get in and get out.

I understand keeping the food menu tightly local, but when it comes to cocktails, folks just want what they want. Borealis has some opportunity here. They don't carry any of the most popular beers, wines, whiskey, gins, or vodka. They insist on taking that choice away and they've made a conscious decision to do so. Aside from making the simple task of ordering your favorite beverage a time consuming task, the end result is mediocre. We couldn't even order a pina colada because it isn't local? The food was generally good with some hits and misses. I do like the fact the the food menu is local themed, but it takes execution to make an impact. We had children and adults in our party so the opinions were mixed. The appetizers were good, notably the prosciutto feta flatbread and soup of the day hit a positive note. Duck satay was mixed but I personally found it tender and flavorful. The crowd was 50/50 on entree's. The fish & chips, confit duck, and lamb garnered positive feedback, others did not. Steak frites was an disappointment. Gray, flavorless, and overcooked. The buttermilk fried "Ontario" chicken was viewed as over-breaded with a thick burnt crust and dry throughout. And the slaw it is paired with was watery and old rather than crisp and fresh. The steelhead trout was overcooked, dry, lacking flavor. The accompanying barley risotto was overwhelming and overpowered the delicate nature of steelhead trout. Ambiance was ok and somewhat modern but some found being seated in the lower dining room at what seemed like a picnic table to be off putting. Service was good and staff was friendly. To be honest, many locals really like Borealis. But for me, as an open minded foodie, they have some opportunities around execution and preparation as well as expanding certain offerings at the bar. And let's be honest--bar happiness equals margin and profit.

August 12/2025: Grad dinner for Garrett…read more At first, I thought this LOOKED like a great sports bar. Lots of seating, tons of TV's & what appeared to be a decent menu. Then it shifted to screaming "CHEAP"! We sat at the bar as the hostess said the seating was full but it looked FAR from full. It also didn't fill up during the time we were there either. Then I looked closer & many things fell apart. The service was slow, the food was both mediocre and had super small portion size. The draft beer size LOOKED big but in reality it was more like a 12oz pint with a really big mug. It was Taco Tuesday. The Tacos were $3.49/taco, beef or chicken. They were a decent size but virtually tasteless & the meat on both was completely dried out completely. I ordered the house signature wings, xtra saucy ($18.99) for a Pound. They should have been embarrassed by what they turned out! They were exactly opposite to what the menu said. They were TINY & almost devoid of sauce! I'm unclear as to what the obstacle is for saucy wings!? All in all...this is definitely NOT a do over or a recommend.

Review of The Canadian Brewhouse - Kitchener Location…read more Overall Rating: 1 out of 5 stars (Poor/Inedible) Our recent experience at the Kitchener location was extremely disappointing, marked by logistical issues, slow service, and significant quality problems with the food. First Impressions & Seating Upon arrival, the entrance area was poorly managed. With a party of five, there was literally no space to stand while waiting, which created an immediate bottleneck and awkward experience for both our group and others entering/exiting. Service & Drinks Once seated, we ordered drinks promptly. While the Diet Pepsi, Lemonade, and water were fine, the Club Soda was noticeably flat. Our food order took an excessive 45 minutes to arrive, and only after our server proactively checked on the kitchen's status. Food Quality - Major Issues The most critical issue was the quality of the food across multiple dishes. It was unacceptable. Items ordered: Spicy Hickory Burger: WAY overcooked/burnt. The taste of char dominated the flavour. The accompanying fries were the only saving grace. Canadian Burgers with cheese and bacon: The burger itself was burnt, and the bacon was burnt crispy. The sweet potato fries were soggy. Creamy Chicken Alfredo with mushrooms: Minimal chicken (only 1 sliver initially). When a replacement chicken breast was provided, it was burnt. Creamy Chicken Alfredo (no mushrooms): The pasta itself was mediocre ("meh"), but the portion of chicken was generous, receiving the fewest complaints from our party. Chorizo Mac and Cheese (new menu item): Inedible. The flavour was utterly appalling--metallic and burnt, tasting like "dirt sautéed in a dirty pan." I had to spit it out. The pasta also featured pieces of unmelted cheese, indicating poor preparation. We also signed up for the app (before we got our food) to get the free appetizer which was a cheesy garlic bread. We got it with marinara for take home. After you peel off the burned bacon and cheese layer, you're left with a decent pizza dough to dip in decent marinara. Conclusion The pervasive issue of burnt food (affecting three out of five entrées) and the truly inedible quality of the new Chorizo Mac and Cheese indicates a severe breakdown in the kitchen. Combined with the cramped waiting area and slow service, we cannot recommend this location and hope management addresses these fundamental quality control issues immediately. On the bright side, our waitress was nice. We will never eat here again.

Great food and excellent service, my first time to a Canadian Brewhouse - try the Donair, true Canadian cuisine! Will definitely be back.

We made a 6 pm reservation for Valentines Day and were seated right away. Our waitress was on point. She took our drink order and they arrived in 10 minutes. What we found right away is all the staff and the owner all work together. Another gal brought out our drinks. When our waitress came by I explained I am Diabetic and could I have the house soup beef barley. That also arrived in lighting speed. Wonderful soup. Reasonable $6. Phil ordered French Onion Soup came loaded with melted cheese. Only $8. Anywhere else your paying $12. Dinner I ordered sirloin steak and lobster tail came with mashed I switched for salad and it came with vegetables. $24 and this meal was cooked perfect. The lobster was a good size and cooked spot on. Phil had Sirloin Steak mashed with vegetables. $24. The atmosphere is between British pub with a touch of elegance. 12 TV's at least 15 draft on tap. The waitress was very tentative asking how each course was. She use to work in Toronto and live there. But came home to Crystal Beach to help with her mom. Drives back and forwards to come to work.
