I was in Waukesha on Friday night around dinner time and knew I wanted to stop at someplace I…read morehadn't been to yet for a fish fry. Of the bookmarks I had within reasonable driving distance, Sideliners Pub & Grill intrigued me the most. I ended up ordering the three piece beer battered perch with potato pancakes for the side and wings for an appetizer with half Cajun dry rub and half Jamaican BBQ jerk sauce. I thought it was interesting that the jerk sauce was specifically labeled as "Jamaican BBQ jerk" and it ended up being an accurate description. It was more BBQ flavored than jerk flavored and had almost no heat to it like jerk normal does. The Cajun rub, on the other hand, had great heat and Cajun flavor. The jerk sauce wasn't bad, but my preference was the Cajun rub. In a picture I saw of the potato pancakes they looked like they were Italian breaded, similar to mozzarella sticks. Again, I was intrigued. Unfortunately, the pancakes didn't live up to my expectations. The breading didn't have much Italian seasoning and the pancakes were like mashed potatoes formed into disks rather than more common potato pancakes that are shredded potato flavored with onion. The pancakes were my least favorite part of the meal. The perch didn't taste like yellow lake perch and was probably something cheaper like pike perch. Even though I did like the beer batter, it wasn't exactly was I was hoping for when I ordered perch, but it wasn't bad.

It is a pub and grill, so that is exactly what we expected, a bar that serves food. A big bar with a large seating area. They also have a large patio that would be nice during warmer weather. On the other side of the dining area is a long wall of video poker machines. That had me a little concerned because they can sometimes be distracting. Got settled in right away with menus and waters. Our server was patient as we kept getting distracted by our conversation. The menu is diverse, with a large selection of apps, salads, burgers, and other sandwiches. Would have loved to try the pepperjack wontons, but that will have to wait until next time. We settled on the Buffalo Burger and the Jalapeno Heater Burger. I was not sure about the jalapenos, so I asked for them on the side. It was a short wait until the burgers arrived. Both were the right temperatures, with mine being a nicely done medium rare. The flash fried jalapenos on the side were very good and not too hot. We ended up eating them separately, like appetizers, and they were surprisingly good. In hindsight I should have placed them back on the burger where they belonged. Both burgers were very good, but the consensus was that the Buffalo Burger was the winner, probably due to the nicely cooked bacon. Everything was going well until a few people sat down at the video poker machines. In many bars the volume is either off or turned way down, or at least the machines are placed near the bar and not so close to the dining area. One machine was at full volume and the noise was genuinely unpleasant. I might want to go back for another burger, but unfortunately the noise from the video games would keep me away.

We were pretty late due to the fact that there were zero spots available. I definitely feel like this is a common theme in the restaurant industry; over booking reservations, over seating walk-in tables . Service wise, food came pretty fast! I ordered the Caprese pizza and it was okay! I also had a glass of wine that unfortunately was never offered to be refilled. The restrooms were clean and well kept! Overall I probably wont be coming back here in my free time, this place was way too busy for my taste.

Not one person came in 20 minutes to check on her or ask if she wanted anything to drink while she waited. When the two of us arrived, we ordered drinks right away and an appetizer as soon as the waiter came. The beer and the artichoke dip were amazing! Yum! I personally ordered the Southwest Ranch Salad. When it arrived, I knew right away that It wasn't going to be very good. It was a plain looking salad but not many other salad choices that looked good to me at the time. The salad was made with chicken thighs, which struck me as a little different from the beginning and is a cheaper meat. There was maybe six tiny little chicken thighs on the plate. The buttermilk fried breading was so over powering and when I cut into the chicken thighs, there were strings of tendons and very fatty. Multiple pieces I couldn't eat. It was not a good salad. The other two people I came with said their sandwiches were "okay, but nothing special". Sadly we are not rushing back.

We were seated promptly and the place was almost full for Saturday dinner. After a short wait, they brought us table waters and left a large bottle of water for refills. I was a little disappointed that they didn't get us started with chips and salsa as is typical for most Mexican restaurants. They have a nice liquor selection and an expanded page of a variety of Tequilas and specialty margaritas. The menu is limited to only one page but focuses on a nice variety of appetizers, Tacos and meals. For starters, we ordered the Chips and pico de gallo. The pico was very fresh and tasty and came with a generous portion of tortilla chips. For dinner, we ordered 3 tacos each - Manolos Bam Bam chicken tacos, Milwalke taco, Shrimp cilantro tacos, and the Quasi birria taco. When they arrived they seemed pretty small but our eyes were bigger than our stomach. Each soft corn tortilla taco was loaded with the selected meat and accompanied toppings. Each one was very delicious with generous amounts of chicken, shrimp, and steak with just the right amount of spice. After 3 of them I was stuffed! For dessert, we tried the stuffed Churros which were lightly coated with cinnamon and came with 2 dipping sauces of chocolate and creamy donut glaze. So good! Overall, we had a great experience at Contento.Nice atmosphere for lunch or dinner. The Lucha Libre pictures and wall paper in the men's bathroom were very cool!

Found out tables were only available via reservation which I thought was a bit odd for a Mexican restaurant but we were offered a seat at the bar so we jumped on that. Inside the decor was festive with a number of Frida pictures and great wallpaper in the restroom. We ordered guacamole and tacos. The guacamole came out quickly and was tasty, with a slightly sweet twist due to the pomegranate seeds and chips just as I like them. I ordered the milwalke and manolos bam bam tacos. I preferred the bam bam because it was filled a bit more but I didn't love the mayo based sauce on either. I would've preferred that on the side or, even better, an offering of salsa instead. I would've loved to review their salsa but only heard about it as I was finished up and it was offered to the couple sitting next to us at the bar. I was excited to try here but there were a few misses during our visit so we'll head to other local restaurants when we're in the area for a more satisfying meal next time.

All three of them ended up ordering plain cheeseburgers with fries for an up charge. With my fish fry I got potato pancakes. My wife also ordered garlic cheese bread for her and the kids to share. The garlic cheese bread was fine. The order consisted of two thick pieces of Texas toast with a lot of cheese. The small bite I tried didn't have much garlic flavor, but it was good. All three of them liked their burgers and the bite I tried led me to concur. The patties had noticeable amounts of both seasoning and char flavor, but not an overwhelming amount of either. They all said they'd get the burger again. The fries looked hand cut, but I'd be surprised if they do that in house. Like the burger, the fries had just the right amount of seasoning on them. The fish was great. The breading was very crispy and the pieces were decent size. The potato pancakes were more like hash brown patties that had some onion flavor and I liked that. Mugshotz is definitely bar first, grill second. There were only four tables outside the bar area and the bar area was packed and loud. I didn't see anyone waiting tables for the first 20 minutes I was there, but once we were waited on and they did an ok job checking in. Food took a little longer than expected given how few tables they had, but I assume the kitchen is just as small. The menu is outdated; both the cheeseburger and up charge for fries cost a $1 more than what's on the menu.
