I was in such a great mood after having a wonderful young man help me at Mitten Running; this put a damper on that visit. I'm not used to being treated this way because I am kind and positive to clerks at any store. My brother used to work at this store when it was downtown and the customer service was top-notch. While telling my friends at the dog park about this man, I heard other stories about his rudeness. While we would like to shop locally, this behavior sends us to online shopping or other stores. In 2000 I found a pair of shoes that I believed fit really nicely and I just continued to purchase the same size in a variety of my favorite fancy brands (Dansko, New Balance, Keen, Bogs, etc), but what I did not know is that I was slowly ruining my feet one very expensive pair of shoes at a time. It recently got to the point where after spending only 30 minutes standing my shins, knees and hips and the balls of my feet would start hurting so badly I would need to rest for 45 minutes. Meal prep was starting to take an entire day. I visited V & A and the gentleman who helped me measured my feet and very calmly told me my feet measured exactly what I thought, but my arches measured nearly two sizes larger. Essentially, I've been wearing the wrong size shoe. He asked a lot of questions about pain and its location, about shoes I currently wear and why in the world I haven't gone to see my doctor and then he brought out the shoes. I tried on an endless parade of shoes. The popular style right now is the Mary Jane shoe, which is not really something I like. I should like it because it fits my foot beautifully and probably would help me, but I think they are pretty horrible. He never quit on me. We tried on clogs and dress sneakers (there is such a thing) and then finally we were all the way down to the sneakers. I ended up with a sneaker that I picked instead of a sneaker he recommended. I had to go back the next day and return my bad pick for his more appropriate pick because I never learn to listen to people who know more than I do. I'm now wearing my new sneakers which I can wear for a few hours at a time without having to sit and wait for my hips and knees and shins to stop burning and aching (I'm only 38!), which is an incredible improvement. V & A worked with my picky tastes and did not stop when I said no to nearly every shoe in the store. I paid $8 more than I would have paid online, BUT I got shoes that actually fit, amazing customer service and I got my shoes immediately. I would have paid $25 extra for that. My next pair of shoes will definitely be coming from V & A.

They told us that they could embroider our greek letters for our line names and chapter. However, we got continuous phone calls saying that they could not do this or could not do that. THEN, instead of calling us prior to detailing our jackets and asking if we still wanted them done because of the things they "couldn't do", they did the jackets anyway and THEN told us they couldn't do it. The customer service was nice on the initial visit but the hassle is not worth it. Just send your jacket, sweater or anything else SOMEWHERE ELSE.

This is the only big and tall man shop that makes me leave with a smile on my face…read more Not only do the clothes fit but they look great as well! As we big men know, bigger clothes means a bigger bill at the end of your outing. However, the material is of a great quality and will last for a long time. I've been to some of the big-name clothing stores in Chicago and New York but their biggest size of anything fits a man half my size. So, when my friends are trying on clothes, I get to just sit and watch as people try on good-looking clothes. At B. J. Cute cute cute! This place explodes with color -- I could tell from the one brief glance at their…read morewindow display from the intersection of Oakland and Parkview that I was going to be all about this place. I adore the store layout and just about every stitch of clothing inside -- although I did experience a bit of sticker shock when I glanced at price tags. My eye gravitated to a luxuriously soft light sweater-cape in a pale pink with bright pink polka dots that I was hoping might be on sale since it's a bit too warm for the current season. No such luck ... it was almost $300. Sigh ... I moved on. Found the cutest little fuchsia and orange sundress. D'oh ... nearly $300 again. I have a hard time parting with that much money for clothing that only gets a few months use since it's only hot in Michigan for a few months of the year. If I lived in Florida, it would absolutely be worth the splurge. There are quite a few more budget-friendly items at Tulips, including one new clothing line that's closer to the $50 mark, but this season's line from them wasn't in the vibrant colors that made the rest of Tulip's apparel appeal so much. They also have some wonderful travel-friendly, wrinkle free clothes that I'll be sure to check out next time I'm planning to go on vacation. Jewelry, too, is very affordable and bright and pizzazy ... I posted a bunch of pictures on yelp. This would be a great spot to stop for gifts as well as they had gorgeous beach blankets in vibrant patterns (flamingos, anchors, peacock feathers and other themes), Derby hats and other fun tchotchkes. Tulips is a now a must-stop spot for me when I'm in the Oakwood Plaza neck of the woods. What a great little area to shop local! I highly recommend wandering the whole area and popping in to all the great local spots.
