After moving around the US from MN, to WI,…read moreND, MS, GA, IA, CA and now MI it was always a task to find a great bike shop since I love to ride. Pedal clearly tops the list. They have fixed my families bikes, including my son's custom Ti bike adding a Rohloff bike shifting system, which carries a lifetime warranty. I have purchased several bikes from Ryan and Tim at the downtown store and they always take care of any needs I have for service or repair. My favorite purchase has been the Cervelo Aspero gravel bike, which I rode with my son from Seattle to Chicago two summers ago. None better than Pedal to set up the right bike for a 2,000 mile ride!!

I've been using The Edge for many years to service my Malibu ski boat as well as my Bennington…read morepontoon boat. They do consistently good work and have my boat back to me quickly. That's fairly crucial with our short summer season. There are a variety of accessories available for ski, I/O, or pontoon boats. They also sell everything form skateboards to wakeboards and the sales reps have a solid knowledge of not only the products but which is best suited to individual riding style. I'd recommend giving a bit more time in the fall to schedule service for winterizing and storage. They get slammed with boats and the storage space can run out quickly. They're a former Malibu dealer and now carry MB boats which I've heard are a higher quality product at a better price. They also have Cyprus Cay Pontoon boats. I can't tell you much about those other than they've won some awards and appear to be a nice ride. One thing I'd recommend to buy from this dealer are water tramps and tubes. I've found lower quality tubes can structurally fail after only a few weeks and the higher quality ones sold here have lasted for several seasons. Best deals on these are in the fall if you can wait. Great bunch of guys working here. I highly recommend this business.

Best damn men's store in western Michigan in every way…read more I found myself with a wardrobe emergency in Kalamazoo. With the family wedding to attend the next day, I discovered I brought the wrong suitcase across the state and wasn't really up for a 4 hour return trip. If I could only get black socks I could kinda fake it with khaki pants, a short sleeved light blue shirt, and black shoes. I figured I would go to a Walmart in the morning for black socks. My wife asked the pre-wedding barbecue table where to go for socks in K'zoo. Every local man said, nearly in unison: Libins. I figured I *had* to try it. I walked in and said at the very least I needed black socks, preferably over the calf. But if possible, also a jacket, dress shirt, tie and fancy suspenders. I didn't have high expectations. I'm the kind of guy who can't buy anything off the rack. My saleswoman said she was thinking a blue blazer to go with the khakis, which is just what I had in mind. The first one was a bit too tight. I told her I wouldn't mind a pattern. The next one fit perfectly, including the sleeve and jacket length, and I loved it even more than the jacket I left behind in Monroe. It took her a minute, but no longer, to find a matching shirt in my size. She pulled out four ties and I picked one. It wasn't one I would have bought on sight because I *had* to have it, but it was definitely one I would have bought on the road when I needed a tie because it was in the neighborhood of what I like. Suspenders that made the outfit pop took another 30 seconds. Black over the calf socks took a minute because she forgot the over the calf part at first. A couple of minutes to hear stories from the other customers about the current macaw and the crusty old predecessor, and a few minutes to ring me up. Out the door with a fantastic wedding wardrobe in about 10 minutes. When I told other guests at the wedding I got all of "this" in 10 minutes at Libins that morning, the locals all said of course I did. They reveled me with their stories of going to Libins with their father as a boy, or that they got the very suit they had on there, including the groom and his father. I can't say enough about the selection, the helpful staff, the huge bird greeter, and the strong sense of tradition that fills the place.

I was in such a great mood after having a wonderful young man help me at Mitten Running; this put a damper on that visit. I'm not used to being treated this way because I am kind and positive to clerks at any store. My brother used to work at this store when it was downtown and the customer service was top-notch. While telling my friends at the dog park about this man, I heard other stories about his rudeness. While we would like to shop locally, this behavior sends us to online shopping or other stores. For nearly all of my adult life I have been wearing the wrong size shoe because I buy my shoes…read moreonline. In 2000 I found a pair of shoes that I believed fit really nicely and I just continued to purchase the same size in a variety of my favorite fancy brands (Dansko, New Balance, Keen, Bogs, etc), but what I did not know is that I was slowly ruining my feet one very expensive pair of shoes at a time. It recently got to the point where after spending only 30 minutes standing my shins, knees and hips and the balls of my feet would start hurting so badly I would need to rest for 45 minutes. Meal prep was starting to take an entire day. I visited V & A and the gentleman who helped me measured my feet and very calmly told me my feet measured exactly what I thought, but my arches measured nearly two sizes larger. Essentially, I've been wearing the wrong size shoe. He asked a lot of questions about pain and its location, about shoes I currently wear and why in the world I haven't gone to see my doctor and then he brought out the shoes. I tried on an endless parade of shoes. The popular style right now is the Mary Jane shoe, which is not really something I like. I should like it because it fits my foot beautifully and probably would help me, but I think they are pretty horrible. He never quit on me. We tried on clogs and dress sneakers (there is such a thing) and then finally we were all the way down to the sneakers. I ended up with a sneaker that I picked instead of a sneaker he recommended. I had to go back the next day and return my bad pick for his more appropriate pick because I never learn to listen to people who know more than I do. I'm now wearing my new sneakers which I can wear for a few hours at a time without having to sit and wait for my hips and knees and shins to stop burning and aching (I'm only 38!), which is an incredible improvement. V & A worked with my picky tastes and did not stop when I said no to nearly every shoe in the store. I paid $8 more than I would have paid online, BUT I got shoes that actually fit, amazing customer service and I got my shoes immediately. I would have paid $25 extra for that. My next pair of shoes will definitely be coming from V & A.

My husband went in paid the bill and asked where it was--told over there-in pieces. He came back to the car to find a box; put the pieces in, dragged the rest of the cart to the front door--I jumped out of he car to open the door and helped him bring it to the car. We struggled but loaded it in--a rag was stuffed in it to sop up the gas. No one helped him and no one put the pieces they took off back together. Never been treated so disrespectfully at any store in Battle Creek. Not a store we would go back to sadly.
