I used to be a very big fan of this place and would eat there regularly until the last time i was…read morethere i ordered fufu and light soup, drove home (30 minutes) to find the soup was just full of bones. was extremely annoyed and called them immediately they advised me to come back and it will be exchanged. i drove back (again another 30 minutes) only to be accused of eating the meat and being a liar. firstly i brought all the food back so why would i waste time just for a few pieces of meat. secondly the fact that i was accused of being a liar to my face incensed me and eventually ended up walking out of the shop no food and no refund. will DEFINITELY NEVER EVER COME BACK

If you are ever yearning for home cooked - and I mean, really home cooked - West African food then…read moreit is worth the mission to go to The Gold Coast in Norwood. The decor leaves a lot to be desired with disposable table clothes, uncomfortable chairs and tables that wobble - so be careful! Despite this and the always grumpy hostess, I keep coming back because the food is delicious. On my last visit, I ordered the beef stew with Jollof rice (rice in tomato strew) and my friend ordered the Chofi and Fried Yam. To start, we had Kelewele (fried plantain) and yam balls. We waited about 45 minutes to an hour for our food but TOTALLY worth it. The portion sizes are manageable if you have a big appetite - which you do after the wait - and it is easy to pack up and take home. The customer service is sub-par, I would recommend waiting to go home to use the bathroom and avoiding the bar downstairs but overall great great great food!

I came here for a birthday dinner, and we ordered a variety of dishes from the menu. For appetizers…read morewe had kelewele (fried plantains), pepper soup, chofi (turkey tails), chicken wings and fried beef. For entrees we ordered palmnut soup w/pounded yam, African tomato soup w/jallof rice, egusi w/white rice and okra soup w/fufu. The food was amazing, I loved the ambiance, and our server Nyeli (apologies for any misspellings) was patient and kind.

WHAT I LOVED: Decor…read more- The restaurant could use some updating and refurbishing at some point; however, for a chill spot with the fellas or a place to grab a quick bite, it's still perfect. Food - Perfect! I'm not a big Fufu person so I always get the Banku and either Palmnut or Peanut Soup! Yum! They also provide a water dish so you can eat the Banku and soup with your hands! (the traditional way :-D). If you're not too adventurous and want to stick to something more neutral, the Jollof Rice and Tomato Stew is always a safe bet and is delish every time. I think they also have a few Caribbean options too. Culturally, I find Ghanaian food to be on the spicy side, so be careful if you have a weak stomach. Service - Always 100% I think Baba may be the owner and every time I've come over the past 5 years, he's been here and has always been very lovely. Ambience - Great place to come and watch football with the local Ghanaians. It's vibrant and loud, very fun and usually feels like a family atmosphere. Location - Very convenient for South Londoners. Just down the road from Norbury Station, or right at the Tylecroft Road 109 bus stop. OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH: Decor - Really it would be nice for the restaurant to be renovated, but the costs associated with that may be too high at this point. Even still it truly deserves 5 stars. Great find!
