    Before Bridesmaids!
    Carly W.

Film on the Rocks is def one of my FAVORITE summer happenings! A local band (sometimes even a comedy act) and a movie in the best outdoor venue for a mere $15? Uh yes please! I've had the opportunity to see both Jurassic Park and Bridesmaids for Film on the Rocks. Both experiences have been awesome! ++ I love that you can buy tickets ahead of time online! ++ I love that you can bring in a little picnic (though no bringing in your OWN alcohol, glass bottles, or aluminum cans, water bottles must be empty upon entry) to enjoy during the show! ++ I love that parking is FREE (though if you don't get there early be ready for a hike)! ++ I love that you can buy alcohol (though last time 2 beers cost $18, eek)! ++ I love that it's Red Rocks. Nothing compares! I'll def be back for many more fabulous evenings beneath the stars, catching some of my favorite movies with my friends! :) **Pro Tip: Bring a blanket to sit on and wear layers! You never know what Colorado is going to throw at you and once the sun goes down those ninety degree days don't always make for the warmest nights!

The views are amazing and it's always fun to watch a movie outside and under the stars. This year I saw Big Lebowski (meh) and Jurassic Park. It can be hard to find a good parking spot and good seats for the show; of course it helps to go early. I recommend bringing: * non-alcoholic beverages in factory-sealed plastic containers * a cushion or blanket to sit on * a blanket or jacket, as it gets windy * a flashlight, especially when you're walking back to your car and other cars can't see you Prohibited: * anything in aluminum cans, no matter what it is * fruit, unless it's pre-sliced * obviously weapons and anything else you would think would be bad to bring A more helpful list can be found here: http://www.redrocksonline.com/VISITORINFORMATION/FAQ.aspx#What_things_am_I_not_allowed_to_bring_into_the_Amphitheatre_ They're pretty strict with the beverages and fruit rule, though there are tons of people who smoke up during the movies. I've never seen anyone cracking down on the drug issue, and that can be a problem if you're sitting near someone with a problem. It can be amusing when hundreds of people are cheering at first sight of a particular actor on screen, but idiots randomly shouting for cheap laughs can be unpleasant after a while. Just don't let the obnoxious attendees or waft of marijuana get to you too much, and enjoy the unique experience.

Picture of the tailgate tents that are not allowed, in case you wondered what I meant.

Tons of fun. Here's info that may be useful that I was unable to find beforehand: 1) Tailgating is allowed in the parking lots, but apparently the use of tailgate tents is not. They let us use ours anyway because it was already up and it was raining. 2) coolers are allowed inside, but they can't have a handle or wheels. We were able to "take ours back to the car" and come back using the straps to carry it instead of the wheels and we were fine. They do pay attention to the size of the cooler and they need to fit under the bench. 3) The website says snacks have to be in clear plastic bags. We opened up our factory sealed store bought popcorn from Costco and put it in a bunch of plastic ziploc bags only to see someone else inside with the big red bag that we had. So I don't know if that rule still applies. 4) It did rain during our show but it only lasted about 5 minutes. Almost everyone had umbrellas and it didn't block anyone's view or get in the way. Ponchos work great too. 5) We went inside at about 7:15pm and the seats were already half full. If you're particular about where you sit, be first in line. 6) If you own stadium seats with a back, bring them! We had a great time, I highly recommend doing this at least once. It's worth the $15 ticket price ($12 +$3 convenience fee). Our show (Princess Bride) was sold out the day before the show and the stadium was completely full despite the rain, and despite it being a Monday night.

"Mean Girls" before it sold out before the film started.

Anything at Red Rocks is great. A $12.00 ticket to watch a movie with Denver lights as the backdrop, live local music, a comedian and classic cartoons is completely worth every penny. I highly recommend packing a picnic when attending with a small group or a large group. Food vendors are present and even a restaurant if you forget, but most everyone brings food. Make sure you read the list of items not allowed before you start your trek to the gate, otherwise you will be making a long walk, depending on where you parked, to return something to your car. You will get a mix of all sorts, every sort; teeny boppers, hordes of high schoolies, family's with little kids, groups of adults, groups of college kids, movie fanatics, young professionals, the elderly hip and the guaranteed group of party-goers that think FOTR's is the same scene as the concert they went to last weekend complete with pre-priming with full parking lot pre-party followed by unrespectful pot smoking during the entire movie. I don't mind pot at Red Rocks, I actually think it belongs there, but not during FOTR with a family oriented environment. Even the artists and comedians refrain from cursing, that type of scene. There will always be something, which makes it a great experience. Bringing everyone together is actually pretty amazing without riots breaking out and territorial fights over blanket placement and such. I like that everyone gets along somehow to enjoy a great night under the stars. The cool summer nights, the great people watching and the natural beauty is fantastic. I love that Denver has such a beautiful venue to host popular cult classics. I look forward to Film On The Rocks as much as a good band playing.

The view from your seats, over the screen. Denver in the distance there!

If you're looking for some amazing summertime activity, check this out! Definitely take any friends or family visiting from out of town as well, they'll be very impressed. The movie line-up is stellar as well, at least in my opinion. My tip would be plan accordingly! Just moving to Denver my friends and I weren't as prepared as we could have been with our clothing. Definitely wear warmer clothing and take some blankets to both sit on and cover up with! It could have just been a cold night we went on, but I still think you'd want something to sit on for the hours you'll be there. Also I didn't realize you could bring in your own food and drinks which we will definitely be doing next time! They do sell food there, but I had the pizza and it was old and cost almost $8 for a personal size. I wish they sold other drinks besides beer and water, we were really wanting some hot chocolate! Other than that, it's a great experience watching some of your favorite movies with a huge audience that is interacting and making the movie more fun. I've seen other reviews where people complain about people talking, but honestly you have no problem hearing the movie (it's even a bit loud sometimes), and having commentary on the movie is like watching with a HUGE group of friends. I can't wait to go see a few more films this summer.

We love Red Rocks. The best venue in Colorado. Not sure how they keep it so clean but appreciate that they do.

It will be so impersonal, that you will not be sure you are set up until a live person actually shows up at your door. What they do: They show up with a giant blow up screen that will fill your back yard. Then they attach speakers that rock your house and sound like the inside of the theater. Then they project the movie of your choice.. Super fun.. This is my third event, and I will keep using FunFLicks, though I hope they improve their pre-event communications in the future.

He only did the front of the screen. Had the wind changed direction, the entire screen would have fallen on all of our guests. After I provided enough stakes the make it safe, he realized he did not have the right sound cords. We had NO SOUND for our outdoor movie. The techs only solution was to drive back to warehouse 45 minutes away and get the correct cord. It would have taken him nearly two hours to get the correct cord, which would have made my family friendly movie starting at midnight. Luckily, our venue holds many events and we were able to provide the tech with the appropriate sound cords. Once we were finally able to start the movie (45 minutes past the scheduled time) he realized he did not have any batteries in his remote to start the movie. Once again, I was scrambling to provide something the company should have already had. The next day I called the company to tell them of all the issues we had with our event and see if I could be compensated anything given the fact that I provided half of the equipment in order to show the movie. Management did not seem to care that I had provide so many things for the movie. They offered to take $100 off my next rental but there was not going to be a next rental. I was told they would speak with their supervisor and call me back the following day. Two full weeks later, I had to follow up to see where the situation stood. I had to remind the manager of the entire situation as she could not recall any of the facts and still gave me the same information the as she did the first time. Apparently I was just supposed to send 200+ guests home and reschedule the event for another time. This was a paid event, I would have had to refund multiple people and I would have lost money. Had I not covered the tech with all of the equipment, the movie would not have played. I understand things come up and mistakes happen but management did not do anything to make the situation right. They were perfectly fine with losing a customer. Needless to say, I would never recommend Fun Flicks due to their techs being unprepared and management not making the situation right and taking nearly 3 weeks to return a call.

Such a fun experience to do on a sunset summer night with friends, family, and your dog. The only thing is, depending on the movie and the time of summer/year, it'll be very crowded, so make sure to get there early to wait in line, or it'll fill up, and they'll turn you away. But overall, now it's a Denver staple for me, and I will go back every year!

You spend half the time adjusting the station, the other half wondering if that buzzing is part of the film or just the speakers fighting for their life. The screen so dim you're not watching a movie--you're guessing the plot based on silhouettes. At this point you're just there for vibes... and even the vibes are questionable. And the bathrooms?? Why does every drive-in bathroom feel like it's been through a natural disaster. Clogged toilets, dim lighting, and the smell hitting you like a jump scare--more horror than whatever's playing on the screen. Snack bar acting like it's gourmet too... charging premium prices for stale popcorn that crunches like packing peanuts and pretzels so salty they could de-ice the whole parking lot. Honestly, it's not even a throwback experience... it's a throwaway experience. I used to love this place but it's gone down hill. Also, charging 10$ for a "food permit" is actually crazy.
