I had some time to kill in Denver while visiting from out of town so I decided to catch a movie. I noticed this theater is operated by Landmark which is always promising because Landmark is one of the few chains that cares about preserving cinema culture. Needless to say, I was really happy I chose this theater. It's an old school movie house which is always a joy: the architecture is beautiful and it just has a certain charm you don't get very often anymore. Sure -- the seats don't recline, they don't serve cheeseburgers at your seat, and the sound won't rattle your bones, but sometimes you don't need that. The service was great -- it was nice to buy a ticket and my concessions at the same time. The movie I saw was in an upstairs almost balcony setup which was honestly a nice change of pace because it felt private and personal. It's worth noting, as someone who lives in a larger body, that the seats are on the smaller side, so if you're a bigger person this theater might not be the most accessible. That said, I was comfortable during the film's runtime. A nice addition at this theater is the upstairs bar which had alcoholic offerings; I didn't partake, but it's a good thing to note for the future. I did order concessions and the popcorn wasn't mind-blowing, but I still felt satisfied (and they went so far as to put butter in the middle and the top without asking which is always the sign of a pro). I can't wait to come back to Denver so I can see a movie in the main auditorium -- I peeked inside when I was leaving and it looks like a grand opera house!

The Mayan is a pretty cool-looking theater. Looks like there's a lot of history here. It's a small place, but I prefer those more than the big, overdone, large chains. And I prefer the types of movies shown at the smaller places, as well. You can buy your ticket and the booth in front in with windows facing the street, old-school style. Or sometimes, you just go inside to buy them if they don't have that extra body. They sell the typical movie snacks but also alcoholic beverages. And there is a second, bigger bar upstairs. If you haven't been, check it out. For eats & drinks before or after any show, The Hornet is a few steps away, just make sure they're open.

What a cool theater! There was plenty of free parking in the lot in back (by Walgreens). You get your ticket outside (at least that's how it was when I was there). Then you can get your refreshments inside. The architecture is very interesting. My only improvement area would be that there weren't cupholders in the seats.

This is a nice theater. The whole vibe is different than anything else in Denver, you just have to see it for yourself. They show lots of indie movies which can be kind of hit-or-miss. I've seen 2 movies here so far. One was terrible and the other was excellent so I recommend doing a little research before deciding what to see (unless you just want to be surprised like me lol). $10 per show right now so not bad

A beautiful theatre and presentation, The Mayan is a historic marvel that lives up to its parent company's name of Landmark.

I asked if the popcorn was fresh. They said it was. Worst popcorn and $10 spent. Do not recommend.

Service was awesome! It was easy to order food, and had a server checking in with us respectfully during a movie. I think that's a hard thing to do, you've really got to know when to check in; kudos to them. Food is great portion wise! It would be great to separate alcohol & food menus. The alcohol dominates the menu, I don't drink so it was off putting to me. The theater is clean! The seats are worn out, my seat had the leather cracking. Not the biggest deal, but the small details matter; the more pressing issue is having a cup holder in between each seat. It makes sense when it's moving into the next section of paired seats, but it felt cramped & stiff unless I wasn't pulling up hard enough. All in all I'd recommend this spot! Dinner & a movie, big portions of food, and excellent customer service. It doesn't get any better unless it does!

I rarely order food or drinks at a movie, but when I have it's been decent here. The seats are older here and not super comfortable, but I'm willing to deal because they play arthouse movies I can't see anywhere else. Parking was rough- the parking lot is tiny and requires validation I think (there was a sign on the door), but if you drive around there is some street parking that has a 3 hour limit. I prefer the location closer to me (there are so many in Denver!) but don't mind stopping in if they are playing something I have to see.

The theater itself felt like a proper cinematic space, and the D-Box seating really heightened the movie. When the horses charged into battle or the war scenes began, it genuinely felt like you were riding alongside them. The movie being the extended edition made the four-hour runtime fly by it felt immersive and nostalgic at the same time. Price: Tickets were around $25-$30, slightly higher than normal because of the D-Box experience, but I absolutely think it was worth it for how much it enhanced the film. Food & Drinks: We bought the theater small bag of popcorn, which cost around $10-$12. The theater has standard food and drink options if you want to grab snacks there. Tips: The theater was a little cold, so I'm really glad I brought a blanket. I highly recommend doing the same, especially on a chilly day. If you can, check to see if your local theater offers D-Box seating it truly adds a next-level experience to battle scenes and action sequences. Overall Experience: As a longtime Lord of the Rings fan, this was an amazing, nostalgic experience. Seeing Return of the King again, especially in theaters with D-Box, made me feel like I was watching it for the first time all over again. The ending still brought tears to my eyes, and the extended edition made it feel like a full, immersive journey. If you have the chance, I'd highly recommend catching this 25th anniversary screening. Especially in D-Box. Truly unforgettable.

I was actually quite surprised that there were only a few people using their phones for short periods of time here. The seats were comfortable and seemed clean and the woman that helped us out at the snack place was nice and efficient. I do wish that more movie theaters would take on the Alamo business model by monitoring people talking and using their phones during the movies and issue a warning first then kick them out. It would make coming to the movie theaters a once every two months or once a quarter event as opposed to once every few years.

They asked us what drinks we wanted when we got there because the mobile ordering system apparently tells them the sizes but not the actual drinks we ordered?!? It would have taken less time if we just ordered when we got there. The food and drink was just basic movie theater fare. Nothing fancy. The movie theater was good. The seats recline to almost flat. This is the place to suggest if you are being dragged to a movie you don't want to see. You can totally take a nap! Lol. Someone was having a medical emergency in the exit hallway when we tried to leave after the movie and, at first, we thought we were trapped. But the exit doors by the screen go to the parking lot and don't set off an alarm. All in all decent movie theater. But I prefer Alamo.

We joined as members, which turned out to be a great value since the membership cost less than purchasing individual tickets and allowed us to return throughout the year. Some of the toddlers were especially excited to see The World's Largest Dinosaurs exhibit (a separate ticket is required), which explores the biology and amazing anatomy of sauropods, the largest land animals ever to walk the Earth. We also enjoyed Discovering Teen Rex, which featured interactive exhibits for the kids. The fossil preparation lab was on display as well, showcasing Triceratops and Edmontosaurus fossils along with the tools used by paleontologists. Both exhibits were listed as temporary. The biggest surprise was the Wildlife Halls on the second and third floors. These 90-plus wildlife and habitat dioramas are beautifully detailed, many featuring enormous and exotic animals within realistic ecosystem settings. Everyone was impressed by how clean and vibrant they looked, especially compared to the classic dioramas at the American Museum of Natural History, which we still greatly enjoy. The Discovery Zone on the second floor was the biggest hit with the children. Designed for kids up to age eight, it offers a variety of hands-on exhibits. From uncovering buried bones in the sand to designing custom bug badges and experimenting with the force of moving water, it was difficult to pull the kids away. Outside the museum, there are additional attractions including animal statues, a playground, and a splash fountain. The museum is located within the expansive Central Park area, providing plenty of room to explore before or after your visit.
