One night while i was driving home from work i realized the light inside my car was dark. I wasn't able to see my speedometer. And it was pretty scary bc just my luck i got lost driving and wasn't able to see how fast/slow i was driving on the highway. Thankfully i made it home. Took my car in the next day, explained the situation and Tom was able to fix it w.o charging me a penny bc it was some switch that was accidentally switched. Now you see, i bet if it was any other mechanic shop they would keep your car, have you wait and then later on charge you for a couple of hours for their man hours. (I know this from experience) i took my car in to pep boys one time in Queens they kept my car overnight. And lets just say the next morning i wasnt a happy camper! As luck would have it, I made the right decision in choosing Southside. Not only did they go well above and beyond to help me, I now have a trusted mechanic and used car dealer! When I arrived, Azeem and I took the car for a test drive. I could immediately tell he was a good mechanic. My ex of 15yrs was a mechanic, so I learned a thing or two myself. After the test drive, he put the car on the lift and completed a thorough inspection. He took his time and checked all aspects. He even pulled the blue book report for me at no cost and told me the value it was selling for at auction. In the end a few small repairs were needed which thanks to his help, I was able to negotiate with the seller to repair. All of this for 60 bucks! Upon finalizing the deal with the seller, I learned he never titled the vehicle in his name. Because I was buying the car with a bank loan, I wouldn't be able to cut him a check since the title was still in the prior owner's name. I was disheartened :( I really wanted THIS car. Before leaving town, I stopped back to talk to Azeem and get his thoughts on the matter. Did he think it was sketchy? He helped me confirm the prior owner and was confident the car was legit. Since he is also a registered car dealer, he offered a solution that he could purchase the car and then sell it to me and complete the necessary title transfer paperwork. He carries insurance that would cover any unforeseen issue, but was confident it was fine. Problem solved! He would charge a $150 fee for the service which I felt was reasonable and would negotiate with the seller to help cover the cost. We made arrangements to meet the following Saturday. Azeem confirmed the repairs were made and he (and his uncle) were VERY patient with me and my other half as we were having second thoughts and concerns. We couldn't help our New Yorker skeptical minds from spinning and wondering why is this person helping us?! And for a measly $150?? We were still nervous despite thoroughly researching all parties involved prior. The next snafu was since it was Saturday, no DMV in the area was open. Azeem to the rescue again! He recommended a Private Service Bureau (https://dmv.ny.gov/more-info/private-service-bureaus) that could register and issue plates for me on the spot (Robert Pehnke (http://www.pehnke.com). Not sure why anyone would wait in line when these guys can do it for you in minutes for a mere $25. SOOOO WORTH IT! But, the DMV computer shut down by 2p and the seller had time constraints that prevented him from meeting us until 1p. We felt extremely pressured to make a decision in short time, but Azeem and his uncle helped talk us through it. They didn't add to the pressure and were fine with whatever decision we made. Ultimately, we decided to move forward. Azeem completed the paperwork in a jiff and let the DMV guy know I was on the way. I was able to get the registration and plates in a matter of minutes and we drove our new car home that afternoon! We received the title in the mail 2-3 weeks later and knew then the deal was 100% legit. We are so glad we took the leap of faith and can't thank Azeem and Southside enough! We LOVE our car which is absolutely perfect and have already taken it on several long road trips (one of which we had the aforementioned ex check it out to confirm it was a sweet deal and in excellent condition). As it turns out, there was no ulterior motivation other than Azeem being a kind and helpful person. He and his uncle really did us a solid and we are extremely grateful! I can't say this about other dealers I've encountered over the years and about very few mechanics, but I trust Azeem and WOULD SEND MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY to him WITHOUT HESITATION for mechanical assistance or help purchasing a used car. If you're looking for a specific vehicle they don't already have for sale, they'll check the auctions for you.

Needed my car inspected and oil changed. I had been going to dealers for my service. The last…read moretrip they had a whole list of items that "needed to be done". I decided it was time to look around for someplace else to work on my car. During my research for a good mechanic I came across Al's. Decided to give them a try. I spoke with Chris and I gave him the list from the dealer of work they said had to be done (at an exorbitant rate). Well Chris took the list and said he would look at the car and see what it needed. Turns out it was an inspection and oil change. He did recommend that the tires would need to replaced soon. A few months went by and I decided it was time so I went back. I had a tire in mind that Chris said was a good tire however he recommended a tire his father just put on his vehicle. I went with Chris' recommendation. Went for a ride out on the Island. Car ran better than new. His tire recommendation was spot on. Great honest place. I met Al too. Very nice guy as well. Won't be going any place else with my cars. Glad I found them. Wish I knew about them years ago. Highly recommend Al's Preferred.
