I have been a client of Figo Salon for many years. The service that I received 15-20 years ago versus today has significantly declined and I will not be returning. Today, I saw Sophie for root touch up and pull-through (all over color). I expressed that I would love to do a dark brown with some red in it and she said that because of the fact I had done an all over brown box dye she did not feel comfortable putting red all over my head. I tried to express I just wanted a brown with red in it but she insisted that if I wanted red at all, I would have to reschedule so she could use bleach to lift my color. I said forget it and settled for all over brown. It looks fine. My blowout was done by Brea and she did a fine job but it's uncomfortable when two people blow dry your hair, but again, it's okay. When scheduling my appointment I made it very clear that I did not want any pricing surprises. The salon director told me that the color would be $88 plus $12 for pull through. All good. I get to the desk to pay and my total comes to $133. I told the girl checking me out that I was quoted $88 plus $12. She told me that it was $76+$12 for color and then $45 for a blowout. I let her know I was never told that a blowout was a separate price. The salon director overheard and came over to assist. To me, she already appeared visibly annoyed. She let me know that services are ala carte and blowouts are not included with color only haircuts. I reminded her I had explicitly asked for pricing and she asked, "Did you ask for total amount?" I did in fact ask so she said she was going to re-listen to our phone conversation. She comes back and says that since I booked over a month ago the call had been deleted. I told her I was not going to pay for the blowout and she said if that was the case I was never welcome back into the salon. I expressed to her that that indeed seemed very unfair. At this point, I asked if instead of paying for the blowout today, if I could forego my blowout on Thursday when I was scheduled for a haircut. She did not allow me to do that either. I have never tried to get out of paying anything at this salon and over the years my family has spent thousands at this establishment. I paid the full amount of $133 and went down the street to book a haircut appointment at a different salon. I canceled my appointment at Figo for the future and I will not be returning. After all these years to be treated like this is an embarrassment, Figo, not to mention the "salon director" tried to shame me for not being happy with my services. Figo used to be the best salon in Michigan but clearly they don't value their longstanding clients and can afford to lose them. There are plenty of high-end salons in Birmingham and I highly suggest trying one of them over Figo. read more

I was thrilled to finally get my summer highlights now that quarantine restrictions have been lifted! I was impressed with the care and caution FIGO took with keeping clients and staff safe. The salon was immaculately clean and my temperature was taken immediately when I arrived. I filled out a questionnaire ensuring my health and lack of exposure to the virus and the entire staff and all clients wore masks covering both nose and mouth the entire time I was there. I felt very safe during my visit and thanks to Kirstyn who always does an incredible job, my hair looks amazing! Well done FIGO! I was in desperate need of a hair cut - it had been about 7 months since my last cut. I have thick coarse Asian hair and have been to way too many people who say they can cut my hair but end up selling me a bad bill of goods. Anyway I read a lot of good reviews about Joy and decided to check her out. I am thrilled I did! She chopped off 8 inches of overgrown hair and have me a super cute cut which made me look younger and about 10 lbs thinner. I'm definitely going to go back and see her for color too. A couple of other things I loved about this place: - you can schedule appointments online which is fabulous because in our busy days, it's nice to be able to login and see what availability there is without having to go back and forth to find an acceptable time. - the salon is gorgeous! What a shame. A disgrace. I had this stylist called Lena or something like that when I actually asked for Nina. She thinned the heck out of my hair without asking my permission and I had to take the pains of having to use expensive volumizing products, as well as spend precious use of my time having to agonize over making it thick again. Now I have to wait 2 years, thanks to Lena. Lena basically did whatever she wanted without checking with me. She completely disregarded what I wanted and went ahead with what SHE wanted. I was recommended to see Rino (the owner) by a few people and decided to try him out for a haircut. Now I have been to all the good salons in the metro Detroit area and have never had a haircut so PERFECT in my life! He is the best out there and spends so much time discussing exactly what the client wants. You can tell he truly cares about his job and making the client happy. I loved the cut so much, I referred my mom to him and she is one of the pickiest people I know---but she too also fell in love! He's done her cut and color a few times now and she also agrees he is hands down the best around. The salon is beautiful as well, and the staff are all friendly and very welcoming. The salon was nice, the receptionists were helpful and sweet. Everyone, personality-wise was great. I brought in pictures, I thought we were on the same page... I even showed pictures of my former haircuts. I called the salon in advance and asked for a stylist who can cut REALLY STRAIGHT HAIR. People get treatments for hair as straight as mine. It looks iike I flat iron it, but I don't I said all this when I booked the appt and to the stylist. She said she knew straight hair and basically dismissed this as a concern. However, as she was cutting my hair.. she said "wow your hair really IS straight." Ought oh... Well after a nice blow out from her, I go home and wash and try to style my hair. I'm no slouch, I know how to blowout my hair. I had asked for long layers. Turns out she kept the layers in my hair and didn't cut them from my LAST haircut and blunt cut the bottom. I paid $90 dollars for this haircut. It is horrific. I hate that my hair never looks good now. Still on a quest to find a stylist that was as good as my stylist in LA. read more

I went to the salon on the second day opening after Covid 19 closure. I had a consultation with Kristina. My first impression was disturbing as the receptionist was wearing her mask under her nose and it was only 9 am! Kristina was also wearing her mask the same way. I liked my consultation and found the advice very helpful but I don't know that I would go back for my cut and color given the lack of strict compliance with virus guidelines. I didn't feel I should have to tell the person greeting all clients how to wear her mask, or the co-owner.... They did take temperatures and have the covid 19 questionnaire, but that's not enough.... sorry Figo, you can do better. read more

Voted the best salon by Hour Detroit, I can definitely see why they are a front-runner... the best... well that's a pretty bold statement. I made my appointment with Anna the day before (always nice to be able to make an appointment within a days notice). When I walked in, I was really impressed with all the dark wood and simplicity of the design. For some reason it reminded me of Scandinavia... don't ask. My appointment was at 6:15 and I had to wait about twenty minutes, which was fine because I had to pick out a hairstyle to show Anna what I wanted. I was a little disappointed in their magazine and hair book selections, but really? is it THAT important? When I got to the chair after getting shampooed (nice little head massage bonus here!), Anna asked me what I wanted. I told her I may or may not want bangs-- it's something that I have been contemplating for quite some time, but wasn't 100% sold on. After all, the last time I had bangs was 6th grade and the hairapy I've had to go through to get those mental images out of my head has been brutal. Well, I went for it. And I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome. She knew exactly how I wanted them and executed it with perfection! Yay Anna! It can get a little pricey at Figo, but if you go to their website there are some ways you can save some dolla dolla bills on your 'do. read more

I've been doing my hair by Lena for over 5 years now. I cannot day enough about the way she cuts,highlights and addresses any concerns I have with my hair. I would like to add anyone who compliments my hair I refer them to her. When I see my own clients and they tell me about how grateful they are that I had referred them to Lena it really goes to say she is the best in the industry. They have 2 locations I work in downtown Birmingham but live in Rochester so this salon can accommodate most any appointment request. Her assistants are always so happy and cheerful just as she is and after a long a stressful day it's nice to unwind to a glass of red wine and be beautified. I have serious trust issues when it comes to my hair. You would understand if you saw a picture of the pseudo-mullet a-la-George -Washington 'do I received when I ventured out to a new salon at the tender age of 18. 14 years later and I am still terrified. So upon moving to the area, I used yelp and a few new friends to narrow down my choices for a stylist in the area. I got Figo as a recommendation. Yelp also showed good reviews for them. So I called and asked for someone who can cut curly hair. I was terrified when the gal who answered said "well, um, I mean, all of our stylists are really good." BAH! WHY SHOULD I BELIEVE YOU!?!? I took a leap of faith and scheduled a cut with Edith. I have been to see Edith twice now and I am happy to report that she is great! She shared with me some observations about my hair that make it easier to pick out products to use and therefore making it easier to style. She is also very personable and I like chatting with her like an old friend. Although Figo is upscale, I do not feel uncomfortable when I go there, unlike some other salons I have been to in San Francisco and LA. If you have trust issues like me, Figo is a good place to take a "chance." Oh and PS, you cannot tip on your credit card, so bring some cash or a personal check for tips. read more

I have been going to Figo for almost 15 years, and can say without a doubt it is the best salon in Michigan. The people there take pride in their work, and are always striving to provide the best service possible. From the moment you walk in, they treat you like royalty, offering you beverages and making sure you are comfortable. They use alfaparf color from italy, which is superb, and have some of the best hair products (kerastase and shu uemera). Sylvia, Joy, and Madeline are three of my favorites, but you really can't go wrong with any of the stylists there. read more

Right when you walk in they always offer you something to drink, bottled water or coffee which I think is nice. Today was my first time at Figo, I have been going to the same hairdresser since I was 9 so I am vErY picky about who gets to touch my hair. However, I left the salon SO HAPPY! Madeline did a wonderful job with my highlights and cut and I'm IN LOVE with whatever toner she used. I wanted my blonde to go from a warm blonde to a cool blonde and it was perfect! I started going to Figo because a friend of mine is a stylist there, I kept going back because I absolutely love what she does to my hair. It is important to note that I'm very picky about my hair and I wouldn't care if the stylist were my own mother, if I didn't like the way she cut my hair I would stop going to her. I've had long hair pretty much my whole life and for at least the last 6 years I've had fringe and layers. I should mention that up until one month ago I have never had my hair short. When I decided to try something drastic/new I went in and told my stylist that I wanted my hair short, above my shoulders short, but aside from that I didn't know what I wanted. It is a HUGE testament to how amazing she is that I trusted her enough to say "I trust you, do what you think will look good." Needless to say I love my new cut as much as I loved each one before that. As for the other stylists, I always see the same stylist for hair cuts, but I have run in for quick (free) fringe trims and everyone has always done a fantastic job. So if you want your hair to look amazing go to Figo and ask for Corinne you won't be sorry! read more

Tip of the hat to Figo for consistently excellent service. The desk staff are friendly and helpful, offering to take your coat and/or fetch a beverage for you immediately. The stylists continually update their product knowledge. The salon is clean, bright, and busy-but-not-hectic in vibe (and I was there on Valentine's Day, one of the looniest days of the year for salons). Wendy C has been my stylist for nearly a year; I drive 250 miles to see her but she is worth the effort! My color and style have never received as many compliments as they do since Wendy "took over" my hair. Highly recommended! read more

Lindsey cut and colored my hair. I love it! She was very nice, energetic and fun. I was lucky enough to get my fabulous hair cut and color for free by volunteering to be a hair model. Very fun! I would highly recommend it. It was a very beautiful salon with highly professional staff. The only thing that wasn't perfect was the parking. Unless you're going to be an hour or less you have to park in a lot about a block away. Still totally worth it though. read more

If I could give less that that I would...I went to this salon with high expectations, my friend has been getting her hair done by Joy for years so she highly recommended me to go there and do it because I would get a fair price for my short hair. I booked online an appointment with joy but apparently something happened and when I got there they had all my information but joy was busy already. It was ok at first and I agreed to see another hairstylist that the owner himself recommended. Her name is Kirstyn, nice girl, we went in the back and she started working on my hair, she recommended at first to get the blonde of my hair without even once telling me about the huge extra charges I would have to pay, she and her assistant worked on my and a few things telling me in their styling term what are they doing but I never ever heard the word extra charges or the amount they added with every process they do. Now when I went to a salon in Birmingham I expected to pay a good amount of money, but when I have short hair, not even thick or anything and they charged me 245$ for I felt like ceiling dropped in my head. I didn't say anything there because everyone was complimented and I didn't hate the color or anything but I was frozen at the moment. Before I left I asked for a detailed list of what I paid because to me it didn't add up. The assistant started saying how I wouldn't pay this much money next time, took some pictures of my hair and acted like she forgot what I'm talking about. I had to ask 3 times for that list. Later I called the manager. The lady was nice but she said she never heard of 140$ bill in a salon for color and haircut...my friend is paying 120$-140$ for her haircut and highlights, same salon different person, both of the hairstylists are top of the salon list employees. They offered 35$ towards a haircut or a product, like I would ever go back to get anytydone there. The next day I talked to the owner, apparently the stylist, kirstyn and her assistant Rebecca teamed up and said that they told me multiple times that it'll be an extra charge. I'm not crazy and the words extra charge and money never ever came up in our conversation about the hair. How would I be so crazy to pay 245$ for my short hair? Anyway the owner was clearly on their side and he admitted that there is a 40$ charge that is not explicable but the rest was fair. I told him I don't want the money or products or anything but I'm I feel like I've been scammed. He was kinda rude and obviously he couldn't admit that it was way too much...I never write bad reviews or anything but this time it was really hurtful to see how they handled it and to be scammed out of so much money read more

After visiting MANY high-end salons throughout Metro-Detroit I have finally found THE ONE! I have horribly unruly, wavy, wiry hair which I like to let air-dry. Anna-Marie Short worked her magic and explained each step before even touching a pair of scissors. She was thorough, gentle and had a great balance of focus and conversation. I say that because I don't like stylists who are too chatty and unfocused on the hair. Anna-Marie is a perfection-making, magic-working style guru! On another note...For once I had a hair wash where my hair was not pulled, her assistant was amazing as well! The reception staff was friendly and not snooty. The atmosphere was hip and pleasant. Disappointed in customer service at Figo. Lena Did highlights on my daughter for $160. I picked her up and asked her if she had even had highlights done? I Could not tell and not to mention that her "toner" turned red. This was thanksgiving time. She called back immediately to have a redo. Left 4 messages and received no return calls. My daughter lives in Chicago came back to get a redo at Christmas after she finally spoke with someone who said there would be no charge. She went in and was satisfied with the work yet was charged the full amount I offered to go half way with the manager, Jenny, but she wouldn't budge. Poor Customer service and no regard for even meeting half way in the price Needless to say I have three daughters who will not be going back there Seems crazy not to have compromised on this one but too many good salons around for us to waste our time read more

I made my appointment with Tamra for an up do. She did an AWESOME job. I loved loved loved the style. I brought in 5 pictures because I knew that you can't always get the hair style you want depending on your hair type. I wanted a messy, but classy and lots of volume. She did everything I asked. Tamra has been at Figo Salon for 9 years and probably has longer experience from somewhere else. I will definitely be seeing her again. Excellent hair cuts. They do not allow adding tips to the credit card. Cash only. That is the only downside is that the stylists suffer unless you have cash on hand. The quality of the haircuts are such that I cannot go anywhere else. Really, I would give Figo 4.5 stars. It really was a spur-of-the-moment decision that I wanted my long, fine, flat-ironed damaged hair cropped to a bob. I walked in knowing that this is Birmingham, and the prices can skyrocket, so I proceeded cautiously when I entered. I also didn't expect anyone to be available, but a stylist was right near the door and happy to take me. We had about a seven minute discussion on what I wanted my hair to look like, and he really seemed to understand what I wanted. He washed and cut my hair, then spent about a half-hour drying it in sections. The result was amazing, I just needed a little more trimmed off. He was happy to trim it, and I walked out of the salon paying around $50 for the best haircut I've ever had. The clientele was in their mid-twenties to about mid-fifties, no kids to be seen. I plan to go back very soon to get my hair all fancied up for my graduation! :) So go in and ask for Chris for a perfect haircut. read more
