The "Stammtisch" (German for "regulars' table) is not a table, but a section of bar. Great traditional fare with accompanying beer or wine. I dined on the traditional schnitzel and it did not disappoint as it was accompanied by a great local beer. Keep room for dessert and some schnapps to help with the digestion. NOTE: it is a smallish establishment so you need to make reservations to dine, it is well worth the effort to make a reservation and dine. Guten appetite!

The bread and olives are complimentary and delicious. I ordered a salad which was wonderful. My mussels came and the sauce, OMG!!!!, so so good. So good for sopping with the extra bread. I ate all of the mussels and I was by myself. Then, my main course came. My Salmon was cooked perfectly. I would go back and have the exact same thing. It was that good. It seems simple but restaurants do get it wrong from time to time. Also, the service was superb. Two young ladies seem to run both inside and outside. Prompt and attentive service. Highly recommend this place. I'll be in Saarbrücken again on Saturday and I'm trying to convince myself to try a new place, but I'm probably just going to go back to La Bastille.

The wine list is legendary with pricing dictated from the fact they bought the '85 Bordeaux when it came out in the market! The chef and his staff visited the table regularly chatted asked questions and actually cared about his clientele. The didn't g experience was designed for, and by the old school restaurant goer!
