I came to Slava Boxing in late July for what was the women's boxing class from 5-6PM. It was fairly…read morenew, not many women were in the class. By, September I was the only woman in this time slot. In October, I was asked how I felt about them turning the class to male/female.. I had no problem. I was enjoying my classes with trainer Sergio even though the class lacked new attendees. As the holidays rolled around, I informed Sergio I would most likely not be attending until after New Years. Today is 1/8/19. After New Years, I come back to Slava and I am told Sergio is no longer an instructor and I will be in Jesse's class. Knowing the age of Sergio and being in college, I was not deterred by someone new. I quickly learned why I was later told to take the class before paying. The new instructor for their 5-6PM classes is garbage. I didn't even complete the hour because within the first half hour he told me to "practice on the bags" with no instruction. In fact he sat down on the mat looking at his phone while I spent ROUNDS of warming up. Keep in mind this is a instructed class and I was just doing something I can do by myself at a regular gym and pay less for. When I finally got fed up that the new instructor was just letting time pass, I walked over to the gym owner and asked what am I doing in this class, his new instructor was not interacting with me, he's not instructing. I was told "What do you expect?" and I had to TELL HIM "Well, it's a class! I expect interaction and to be taught something like the previous teacher did." He told me "It's your decision to pay to be here." and "You don't have to be part of this gym." With that response, I decided to no longer pay to be here. Slava boxing does not value it's members. The owner is unprofessional and rude. And for the record, during this conversation he was SMOKING! All the previous reviews are right, for owning a gym it's astounding he finds it okay to smoke inside of it. As I once enjoyed being part of this gym, I quickly learned the owner does not value the members of his gym. Previous reviews are telling and you should spend your money elsewhere.

There's only one type of client Slava appreciates: the kind that signs up for their 6 week class,…read morepays the full price but shows up twice and never comes back. How do I know? I was their client for over a year. During my year at Slava I took the Women's Boxing class with Stacie Overholser. I'm a runner, and initially wanted something to supplement my regular workouts. I got leaner, stronger and my body fat percentage dropped significantly, I even got faster, shedding 11 minutes from my personal best half-marathon time. Her class was not easy by any standard, the first half was intense conditioning and the second part consisted mainly of bag and mitt work. As intense as it was, the camaraderie and support made the workouts fun and (a tiny bit) less painful. I had absolutely no upper body strength and couldn't even do 5 push-ups.... however, she pushed me, slowly building a foundation for all the upper body and core muscles I had neglected. Our class consisted of a group of women of all fitness levels, but all equally motivated to get a good workout (otherwise, why bother going?). As great as Stacie's class was there was no denying that the gym itself was lacking in a lot of areas. However, the class was so amazing, we were all willing to overlook the ridiculous parking situation (we constantly had to stop our workouts to move our cars, as you have to triple row park outside), we ignored the fact that the owner, Steve, liked to smoke in the gym, that there was only one restroom and that he didn't want to add a simple curtain to create an additional changing stall (for those of us that arrived to the gym straight from work), we also didn't care that we paid more than the other classes. Ultimately Steve and his new manager Sergio decided to cancel the Women's Class (with no warning) to make room for new classes (the fact that they didn't have any students in those classes doesn't seem to bother them). Their philosophy is not to keep their clients, but rather to sell you two very expensive classes (because most people don't go back) and not have to do much after that. The six week class they're so intent on selling you is not as intense as the women's class used to be, be ready for a lot of air punching and "stance" work (really). The trainers are nice though, they do what they can. So when you check out Slava, enjoy your one class with Steve (he'll ignore you after that) and try to stick to the six weeks.....otherwise, don't waste your money.

I came back because of how strong the community was and how good it felt to train here. After 6+ years away, the coaches welcomed me back like I had never left and made me feel like I belonged. I now actively train both BJJ and Kickboxing here at Elite Greenway. I have met so many kind, smart, and athletic people of all ages and backgrounds since starting, which is credit to the positive leadership and family community that Hai, Cruz, Jose, and many others have built over the years. I learn something new every day and am pushed to improve while smiling because I'm working hard and having fun. All of the instructors and classes for BJJ, Muay Thai, and Kickboxing are top notch. There is a high level of skill and wide range of skill sets on the mats, and a care to build everyone's game and confidence, whether you're just starting out or more advanced. The workouts will get you in the best shape of your life. Cardio and strength. Eliud Kipchoge has endurance. Brian Shaw has power. Elite's ab circuit is coming for both. Plus, the facility is well maintained, equipment regularly upgraded, and clean. I highly recommended this organization and this location!

The reception lady was super nice and gave good info but the gym itself just sucks to be honest. I scheduled my first class today at 5:30 am. In my head, class should start at 5:30 am. Issue number one was when I booked it I was told I would get a confirmation text about my visit. Nothing! I checked my email. Nothing! So I still show up. She said be there 5-10 mins early I get that at 5:22 am. The whole gym is closed and no one there. I wait a bit because I used to work at a gym and I know sometimes people can be late. Guess what?! A white car pulls up. I'm like cool another student. Nope! Some white man who looked like he just got out of bed and gets out of his car. Does he greet me? Does he say he give me a moment let me get the gym set up? Nope! Just looks pissed off he's up super early and looks miserable and looks like he just rolled out of bed. Honestly I waited another 4-5 mins seeing if he would kind of get out of hiding. Nope just never saw him again. Saw the gym lights on. Didn't even see him unlock the door. Went missing for quite sometime. So I just left. This was supposed to be my first class visit and it completely was not what I was expecting. I'm pretty active already. Today I was going to rest more after slowly getting over something I caught from Labor Day weekend and was excited to try something to as a workout. But this place really is a disappointment.

He once said, "The best professor is a professor that's happy to be there," and you felt that every single time he taught. If you're thinking about trying something new or stepping outside your comfort zone, I really do recommend this place. Professor Ulpiano made it more than a gym. He made it a community.
