I was the victim of fraud on Monday 2/24/25 where my phone was hijacked. In the short amount of…read moretime the hackers had they either attempted or were able to hack my bank account. My access to my online banking was locked down where not even I could log on to change the log in credentials, temporarily lock my cards or order new ones or even assess my account for losses. I was told it was for my protection. I am no longer located in Michigan and was told since I was out of Huntingtons footprint I would need to visit a branch. Im out of state and cant even afford to buy lunch after paying my bills. I am 68 years old and a retiree of the bank when it was in good standing with the community it served and was called Citizens Bank. I worked at Citizens for 17 years and through many buy outs and mergers until I retired in 2015. I was told the bank would place a 90 day hold on my account until the fraud was resolved. I am on a fixed income and make less than $1 thousand dollars month and after paying my bills Im lucky if I have $2 left and they want me to wait 90 days and not pay my bills. In what reality do they live in that they think a person can survive that? The other option was for me to write and send a notarized letter to close the account and they will send me a cashiers check for the amount in the account. With less than 4 days before my direct deposit was to hit the account they are going to stop me from having access to all I have in the world. After begging everyone up the food chain at Huntington I was able to get a supervisor who after listening to me beg and whail for help got authorization for me to have access to my account. That came with a price as about an hour after I logged onto my account and changed my credentials and temporarily locked my cards I got a welfare check from the local police because my bank was concerned about me... I did mention that it is situations like these that cause people to harm themselves which in hindsight I should have kept to myself. My advice would be considering this review and evidently the rest of the 1 star reviews is have a back up bank and only use Huntington when you have to. I appreciate my bank keeping me safe from the hackers but who keeps me safe from my bank?

I put MY money from my 2 businesses in and I use it, so what risk am I taking? They were very unprofessional and treated me very badly. I still don't know what I did wrong, and was demanded to withdraw my money. This isn't right and everyone should deserve an explanation to why your being closed out when you don't get any notice! I thought they were the the best bank but I was wrong

Prejudice treatment …read more. Arrived in person to open an account qualifying using the donation to Salvation Army Bed and Bread program. Confirmed three times in advance I could open out-of-state with with a donation, yet donation had to be done in person. State residency not required. Fine and well, I visited in-person. When so arrived I was asked for state ID and when my ID was out-of-state, agent got irate and walked me out the door, couldn't even get to the office to discuss. The agent was completely unable to speak to the Salvation Army qualification. I remained calm and professional as the agent kept raising their voice and causing drama. My only option was to leave. I drove to a near by location where a greeter asked why I was there. There was about a 10-15 minute wait while the person responsible for opening the account called the other branch - I was told I didn't qualify as I was out-of-state. This person was ALSO unable to speak to the in-person donation. The person insisted state residency required, gave a blanket apology for all the misinformation from everyone else in the past, tells me that page is very confusing and it would be fixed - sends me on my way. (Side note - qualifications never NEVER updated..a year later qualifications are the same...in-person donation still present. We since confirmed in-state ID/residency was NOT required for a new account. At this point ELGA started to backfill reasons for denial, which are now different than the in-person visit The decision was based on prejudice, and the bank rallied to support the original denial. The CU continues to ignore the original denial and gives new reasons as we made a case at higher levels within CU. ELGA business practices are highly questionable, subjective and prejudice.
