I really would not even give them a star, my experience with the owner and his mother was absolutely unprofessional. I believe they lure you in, have you pay a lot down, then give you terrible service when you show up for your tasting in hopes that you won't use their venue, and so you cancel, and they keep the deposit...all of it! I had never experienced any thing like this in my life! Felicia was the rudest woman I ever met. I really felt ashamed and bad for Carmen their employee who was wonderful! Felicia's son Doug did not even come out to see myself, my son, my future daughter-in-law and her mother while we were there for a tasting...which by the way was terrible...probably why he didn't show his face!! Besides the fact that he had ruffled his 87 yr old mother's feathers(the supposed director) right before we arrived for tour and tasting. She was miffed because the couple (MY KIDS) asked for Carmen to be their wedding day director knowing nothing prior about his mother RUDE FELICIA being the one you had to use!!! She was very rude to MY KIDS and I told her so! We left that day totally devastated. The kids decided not to use the venue Thank the Good Lord... but were refused their deposit back. Major errors on their parts resulted in zero apologies or responses to us when we appealed to them after our wedding. It's unfortunate to leave a business a poor rating especially in today's times, but if it saves other people some major headaches with wedding planning in this global crisis then so be it. I had planned on having a wedding in Asheville in a few months but obviously with the pandemic happening and state regulations which prevent large gatherings, we decided to cancel our event. I started reaching out to Doug (the owner of the venue) several months prior well in advance of our wedding date and assumed that he would be very responsive, as he had been in the past. My initial interactions with Doug last year were very pleasant to be honest, so I was completely shocked when I was all of a sudden ghosted. I left multiple voicemails and sent numerous emails, and Doug was completely unhelpful and unresponsive. I ended up having to file a "new event" request with an alternate phone number to get him to call me back, and of course he did call back thinking that it was a new customer. When we spoke to him over the phone about returning our deposit, he said was going to think it over and give us a call back per his promise within 36 hours. Of course he never called, and we are back to square one. All of my other wedding vendors have been reasonable in working with us during this crazy time with deposits etc, but Doug has been extremely shady in not even wanting to enter into a dialogue about the situation. The wedding industry is filled with options in terms of venue choices, so let me tell you, look elsewhere for a venue. The last thing you want when planning a wedding is to not be able to get in touch with your vendors in a crisis, and Doug has really shown his true colors. read more

We tried booking a venue tour here for a potential winter wedding. We got in touch with someone online, I believe his name was Doug. The email exchange went as follows: "Hi, this is Doug with Fields at Blackberry Cove! I understand you'd like to tour our venue, when can I set that tour up for you?" "Hi Doug, my fiance and I work until 3:30 every weekday, so any time after that would work for us." "Perfect! I have booked you for a 3:30 tour on Wednesday! See you then!" This interaction with Doug (who was clearly clueless) in conjunction with the negative reviews we have read online made the decision to cancel the tour all together quite easy. If this guy can't even get the tour booking correct, there's no telling what else he would mess up. I'm not taking any chances with my wedding day. read more

This is a lovely venue in need of further development. The location in the hills is lovely, but the parking at the bottom of the hill makes for an arduous climb especially given that this was a wedding venue and everyone had on heels or depress shoes not hikers. The wedding occurred at the far end of a fiels and bathrooms and seating were scarce. The barn area where the reception took place was nice enough. Over the weekend I attended and assisted with a wedding here. The venue was very beautiful. I interacted with Doug, Frieda, Ken and other workers at the venue. They were all very nice. They went the extra mile to help me with getting all the items packed up as the reception was ending. They set everything up including the items we had brought. Overall I thought it went well. I do wish there would have been a golf cart for going to the lodge where the restroom is for those in heels or that had a hard time walking up as the lodge was uphill from the reception area. Oh and make sure you check out the fireplace at the lodge. It is so beautiful. read more

The reason why I booked this venue was because of the location and that it fit within my budget. Doug also let me run the show how I wanted. Every question that I had, was met with, "it's however you want it." I wanted a record ceremony under 10 mins, and I was done by 7 mins. My rehearsal definitely ran longer than that. I heard good praises from my guests on the food and the catering staff. The bartender hired for the night was nice as well. Communication was an area of opportunity for Doug. There were instances that it took him 2-3 days to respond via WeddingWire, where I had originally found him. There was rain in the forecast on the day of our wedding and I had reached out the weekend before asking how quickly we good get a tent on standby. Lucky for us the rain held off until the end of the night, because he never responded back. I DO NOT recommend their in house florist. I had originally went in with plans on doing my own florals, but Freda, their florist had me sold on her experience doing events at the Omni Grove Inn, and she was willing to work within my budget. My first red flag should have been when I had reached out via email, with pictures of what I wanted my bouquets to look like and my response was just an invoice for them. Not assurance that the job could be done to what I had in mind. At our 45 day meeting we squared away some details and I showed her what I wanted my centerpieces to look like. The most basic centerpieces known to man, a wooden cookie with three cylinder vases of floating candles in each one, and strands of greenery across it. The day of the wedding we all walked into the bridal suite and found three bouquets. Two of which were in vases not filled with water at all, and one with a plastic base/handle. I've never seen a bouquet put together that way so I picked it up to examine it only to have a flower fall off. That's when I noticed that all of the flower heads were superglued together, which there went any plans of preserving my bouquet. Because of its size, everyone was confused as to whose bouquets were whose so my maid of honor and mother in law went to take care of the situation. The interaction with Freda was not a pleasant one from what I heard. My mother in law had to keep her cool in order to get Freda to quickly whip up a new bouquet, which she was not willing to do at all. I also found out during the entire interaction she kept referring to me as "that girl" and that I had been rude to her during the entire process. My husband was in the room each meeting we had with her. Some of the flowers in the bouquet also had begun browning and wilting, as if she didn't refrigerate them prior to the event. Honestly, I was so appalled by the original bouquet that I didn't want any pictures or anything to do with it. My centerpieces were nothing like we had agreed upon at our 45 day meeting. There were vases of flowers, and one vase of floating candles at the table, which if I had asked for it it would have been fine, but it wasn't what I envisioned. The next day I couldn't help but wake up feeling as if I had been cheated on my florals. I trusted Freda, with all the experience that she had but should have just went an entirely different route. If you like walking through a pasture to get to the ceremony sight (and it's uphill from the parking lot a good ways) this is your place. If you don't mind walking UPHILL even further to get to the venue itself, this is for you! And if you can hold your bladder long enough to walk outside and up some more hill to go to the bathroom and wait in line because there's only two, you have found your spot for your wedding! And don't expect the jerks in the parking lot on golf carts to take you or your guests to the site, because they don't do that. You get the luxury of getting grass ALL IN YOUR SHOES the whole time you're there! So whatever their rating was pre-covid is not what you are getting now. So keep looking-if not for you, for those who plan to attend your wedding or event. read more

My Wife and I recently got married here, and even though it rained on our Wedding Day, Doug and his crew were amazing about moving it under the barn and they handled everything in an amazing way. The backdrop of the mountains after the rain made the pictures even better it was amazing! The only thing that was a little hard is i was not ready for some of the North Carolina Liquor laws, being from Tennessee, it took a lot to get the license for the day to be able to have liquor at the venue (but that's anywhere in NC). But with questions answered and planning, it turned out ok (be ready if you are out of state though!). The crew was great, they had a good speaker and mic system set up so we could have a vinyl DJ and we also had a cello player at the actual wedding. You won't find a better deal for your money than this place, and of all the Asheville area venues, this was the nicest, friendliest, and we had the best time! :) As far as people talking about bad communication with The Owner Doug, this is actually how it happens: look, if you have a good Head on your shoulders and plan things with plenty of time, he takes you seriously. But if you are someone leaving a 1 star review and mad someone took your deposit....chances are you did something wrong you don't want to admit. Don't bad mouth Doug and his family, they are just business people that are BUSY they give you all the information upfront, and if you treat them right and respect them and realize they do weddings multiple times a week, you will have an amazing time and an amazing wedding. What a disappointing experience. I would not recommend the Fields of Blackberry Cove to any couple. My fiance and I toured this venue 8 months before our wedding day, and everything seemed great: Doug seemed super nice, the venue was beautiful, etc. We signed the paperwork and paid our $700 deposit, and were planning to have Doug as our caterer as well. Fast forward to 2 months later, and all of the sudden Doug stops responding to any forms of communication. My fiance and I tried to call, text, and email him for approximately a month and a half before we gave up and had to find another wedding venue and caterer very last-minute. We were planning this wedding from Pennsylvania, which was pretty difficult already. We contacted Doug again, in attempt to get our deposit back since we did not receive the service that we paid for. We reminded him that my fiance is in the active military and I am in graduate school, and we don't have extra $700 to spare. Needless to say, Doug never responded to us and we never received our deposit. Luckily we were able to find a different venue and caterer in time for the wedding, but I would never wish this experience for any bride or groom. So disappointing. read more

He helped put out all sorts of proverbial fires that day and made sure our guests had a great time and that myself and my husband had nothing to worry about.
