Peter Del Toro, Director of Operations, ONLY after I posted the last review, replied and said they discussed it and were willing to work with me to repair the rust. The rust I paid to fix and they missed twice. HIS EMAIL: Hi Rich, I hope you are doing well. I have been talking things over with the team here and we have decided to work with you in getting the rust and paint repair in the ladder area taken care of. We have a guy over at xxxyyyyy in Huntington Beach which is close to xxyyxxy. We have reached out to them and they said they can take care of the repair. We have worked with them on other projects and vise versa and have built a good relationship with them. Let me know what your thoughts are on this so we can move forward and address this issue. Best regards, Peter I took it to get an estimate. That up-fitter could not do the work. I finally got the van in to another mobile home repair shop to complete the work. It cost $2300 dollars. I had used them before and Sportsmobile (the former prior to FieldVan) approved them to fix the van under warranty. I sent three emails and left voicemails letting peter know that I found the shop to complete the repair and to please reimburse me. Nobody replied. I left a long voicemail. NO reply. I finally fixed the van and sent them the invoice. THIS IS THE LATEST RESPONSE: Hello Rich, Your van is past the warranty period and these services were not approved by Field Van. We had an independent shop inspect your van and reveal that the rust was due to normal wear conditions when living by the beach. Field Van will not be reimbursing you for the repair work that was done to your van. Thank You, PETER DEL TORO FIELD VAN, INC. Operations Manager NOT ONLY HAD WE BEEN THROUGH THIS TOGETHER IT ISN'T TRUE. THE VAN WAS ONLY RUSTING WEAR THEY MADE CUTTOUTS TO MAKE THE CAMPER. EVERY OTHER AREA OF THE VAN WAS FINE. THIS IS BEYOND UNPROFESSIONAL. WARRANTY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ARGUABLY MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE VAN ITSELF WHEN CONSIDERING A PURCHASE SO SUBSTANTIAL. FIELDVAN IS NOT HONORABLE OR TRUSTWORTHY. CAVEAT EMPTOR. USE ANY OTHER MANUFACTURER AND GET LIVE RECENT CUSTOMER SERVICE REFERENCES BEFORE MAKING A PURCHASE. May 24, 2023 We own a 2014 high-top MBZ Sprinter 2500 144 2WD built by Sportsmobile West before they became Field Van. Now nine years old with just short of 90,000 miles on it, it still looks and performs great! Prior to becoming Field Van, Sportsmobile West had been building camper vans in Fresno for 30 years or so. Field Van has been owned and operated by the same family all this time. Many of the designers and craftsman have been with the company for years. In addition to their build quality, one of the things that attracted us to Field Van back in 2014 when they were Sportsmobile West was their people and their sincere interest in their customers' satisfaction. In nine years of ownership, we have only had a couple little service issues and they were addressed promptly and without charge. They use quality materials throughout, so things hold up well over time. A couple things we also appreciate is how they use relatively simple construction methods and only install components that have proven durable and reliable. What they lack in plushness, they more than make up in functionality and comfort. They are purpose built to be camping vehicles capable of traveling on some rough roads and getting a little dirty. We have been very satisfied with our camper van and feel confident in recommending Field Van to others. In our opinion, it is a good company with good people producing a good product. read more

A special shout out to Peter at SMB West for always helping me out. I have had my Custom Sportsmobile Van (built by the old Sportsmobile West) for 16 years, and to this date, they always extend themselves out for miscellaneous spare parts, fix leaks and many times at no charge. Recently, I had a small leak from the front Cab. Peter, had them take the inside apart to find a small possible leak coming from the CB antenna attached above. Peter had the guys patch it up from above and place the cab lining back with new dome lights and also had my U-joints checked at no charge. They are going to continue to have my loyalty and business when I buy a new custom van, there customer service is exceptional, with a new name "SMB WEST" Keep doing the the good work. Love you guys. While it took almost 20 months to receive our vehicle, we were so glad we waited. Brian, who helped us order, understood we are novices at off-road campers and helped us spec to keep vehicle weight down while all the amenities we needed. We recently took vehicle in for annual service. Work was completed in timely manner. Their labor charge is reasonable and from the pics posted, they do a very good job of replacing items that are under warranty and just need service such as our Espar Diesel heater that needed to be cleaned. After hearing about RVs the size of cargo vans (Class B), I went to Manteca to check out the Roadtreks and Winnebagos and tried not to gawk at the insane prices and embarrassing designs (1990 should call and ask for its fabrics back...) So I surfed around Class B message boards and someone posted that if you're gonna spend 80-100K on a tiny RV, you may as well go to Sportsmobile and get one made the way *you* want. There are three factories in the US, with one in Fresno. I made an appointment to tour the factory and showroom. This was an incredible experience -- the website has all the detail you need to design your own mobile office or RV, but to actually poke around a half dozen of them really helped me understand all the options and design issues. Nick was one of the salespeople/design consultants and was super knowledgable about the constraints for the system I was interested in. No sales pitching going on, very honest about the pros and cons of all features, and super patient -- I spent nearly three hours there figuring out a floorplan that would work for me. Unfortunately, there wasn't a model available for a test drive, but I can always go to a dealer. I really liked the professionalism and the quality of what I saw being built, and going here really sealed the deal. The only downside is waiting up to 9 months for your van to be complete (4-5 to order a Sprinter, 10-12 weeks to customize it). So if you're not patient, this isn't the place for you. However, if you order now, you'll probably have something cool in time for Burning Man :) read more

The fact is Sportsmobile delivers a commodity product, while claiming to be a customized, premium brand. That may have been true once, but no longer. We went through the full 18 month process with Sportsmobile and would not do it again. We can not recommend them. There are more economical, faster, and frankly better upfitters out there if you look for them. To be fair, they have become very popular and probably for good reason. But they now have more business than they are staffed for -- particularly at the design consultant level -- which is where you will interface with them as a customer. They are now focused on pushing as many vehicles through the assembly line as possible to maximize revenue. And that mean doing as little customization as possible, and spending as little time with the client as possible. This means they can't, and don't walk their exaggerated talk: when you read their website it sounds awesome -- they claim they can do anything -- until you sign on the dotted line and then it's a steady stream of "we can't do that", and, "no, no, NOT". The design staff is not fully knowledgeable either, or sufficiently skilled to be able to deliver the kind of customization they claim to provide either. If you just want a stock design and want to wait a year+ to sign a check, with about 3 phone calls in the middle -- Sportsmobile is for you. Just hope you never have have a problem or need any kind of special attention because they can't, and won't respond. And they have too much business to really care. Yet they still expect a premium payout from you -- demand premium service and attention in return. read more

Peter came up to her and said that they were close at 4:15 pm but the website says 5 o'clock clearly it's not even 5 o'clock while posting this review. His excuse was they had something going on. I had them instal just a penthouse top on my new van October 2017. They f*cked it up. Absolutely the worst consumer experience I have ever had. These people really suck. The salesman gave us so much incorrect information and it cost us dearly. After several trips to Fresno for repairs, they are completely unapologetic about the botched job they did on my penthouse instal. And starting a few months ago, they made it clear that they would no longer deal with my warranty repairs and lawyer'd-up. We have been fighting with this place for 13 months. Their lawyer won't even talk to our lawyer, which is beyond unethical. And I was #GayShamed by their homophobic secretary and called "ugly" by this lady. SO many people have had the same experience as me (read through the threads on sportsmobileforum.com). I have a bunch of videos I threatened to post to YouTube and THEN they were willing to work with me. But then they decided not to again. There is a WARRANTY on this top and they won't even deal with me. It's kind of unbelievable. So, we had to do repairs on our own dime, and we are so over these incompetent people, namely Jonathan Feld and his father, that we have decide to sell our brand new van. We are losing about $25,000. Their customer service SUCKS. Don't even think about having them do your van or buying a van from them. I will say 1 good thing: Peter DelToro has sent me parts several times so I could fix things myself or pay a qualified person to do so. This whole situation has blown me away. Because we're gay, they won't honor my warranty. That is shameful. Their lawyer is as incompetent as they are, and this has been the worst experience ever. They have settled out of court with several customers, but now there is a Class Action being filed against them. I'm joining it of course. If I could give them 0 stars I would. And yes, I am posting all of the videos of them lying, and of all the shoddy work they did. I asked for at least an apology, and they won't do it. So these incredibly damaging videos will be shared on YouTube. I offered to NOT post the videos in exchange for an apology for what they did to us, for the blatant bad treatment we received, and for the homophobic comments made to me. Their lawyer jumped at the chance to silence me, but then stopped responding altogether. So, we sue. And we post these videos online. I need to point out that Sportsmobile West is not "affiliated" with Sportsmobile. They are just a franchise. The location in Texas is the "real" Sportsmobile. But they are ruining the Sportsmobile name. And they are doing crappy work on people's vans and refusing to fix them. That speaks for itself. There is a huge disconnect between them and the customers. I am not the first person who has had to sell his van because they did a half-assed job on it. And that's sad. I've already bought a new van, fixed this one and will sell it, and have to start all over again. I just can't believe they have done this same thing to SO many other customers and are still in business. read more

An unethical company that will -- literally -- leave you stranded by the roadside. My beloved 1995 GMC Sportsmobile was running fine -- with a brand-new battery and alternator -- when I brought it in to Sportsmobile West to have a new isolator installed. This should have been a simple procedure. More than five hours later, the techs told me they could not do the work. They added that there was something wrong with my alternator -- which had been working perfectly five hours earlier -- and recommended I visit a mechanic on my way back north. Knowing I planned to drive ten hours south that night, they let me go. (Before I left, a tech lied to me, saying the alternator was erratic, but putting out some power.) Two hours later, my van died in the middle of a highway. It's now one day later. I've had the van towed three times and taken it to two mechanics. No one can figured out what the heck Sportsmobile did to my wiring. Sportsmobile is still blaming the alternator and has expressed no concern over the fact that my van stalled out on a busy freeway. They're friendly enough when you show up...but when the chips are down, you'll find some seriously unprofessional, cold and dishonest people there. Something happened in those five plus hours when they had my van. They would rather cover their behinds than own up to the mistake, whatever it was. I emailed CEO Alan Feld, who was cold and did not apologize...and also blamed my alternator, expressing no concern about the breakdown. I am WAY late in writing this, but was compelled after the latest "part rattling off"incident to report/warn postential customers of what we have experienced with our purchase from the Fresno facility -- mainly, just incredibly poor quality work and components. The Ford 350 Van has given us a few issues over the years, but our biggest disappointment has been the sportsmobile work done to the van -- cabinets that are so cheaply made that we had to have the entire interior cabinetry replaced after losing doors when the hinges couldnt take our relatively mild use of the van. It is not an everyday vehicle and not even every-weekend adventure vehicle, so i wonder about the poor souls who bought into this system and dared to venture to the washboard roads of Baja. They are just not built to last. We have had failures in so many areas, it is hard to list them all, some little things, some major. We also made the mistake of ordering a gear trailer that was equally disappointing, another victim of incredibly cheap components, in this case the hinges that were used to secure the tail gate were basically just cheap cabinet hinges and rusted/rattle/broke off very quickly (within a year). If you are looking for quality work, i don't really know where to send you, but I would definitely lower expectations for this place to rock bottom. read more

Peter & the Sportsmobile team were great to work with for converting our 2015 Sprinter 4x4. They were all very professional and modified our van to our specs on short notice and delivery. We met the owner & his lovely wife in Dolores, CO while he was admiring our van in the parking lot. My only caution is their 3rd party audio guy (Rob R) was an expensive fail and not able to get our $4k audio system working properly from the start. A couple hundred miles from picking up our van, intermittent technical problems w/satellite radio began and after follow-up repair visit to Fresno we ultimately replaced the Kenwood receiver by our local guy w/Sony and the problem went away, but only after expensive initial cost & 2yrs of hit or miss satellite radio. read more

Don't take responsibility for their mistakes. Once they have the check and you're gone, they wash their hands. I had things that were obviously production errors that showed up within a few months. They lied and denied, said these were no big deal & blamed me for despite the local Ford service person telling me it was a Sportsmobile error and they should pay for it. I guess if you're from out of state, they think you don't have any options to go back to them to fix these things. Go with a local outfit (not Sportsmobile) if at all possible. read more
