I have been going here for several years and have had no issues with how things are being run. The farm is currently majority a horse farm and for those who are interested in this it would be a great opportunity. The community is the best part of it and I have had nothing but positive experiences since I started going there. Overall would highly recommend.

My daughter (and I) have volunteered her for a while (over a year). We went in thinking that the…read morebusiness was new, and would improve, and we could have some fun working with the owner. The owner has great ideas, however they have not progressed. There are so many ideas on the go that none seem to get to completion. In my opinion, the barn is filthy with sheep droppings all over - and despite many efforts on my (and others) part to get it cleaned up, it just keeps progressing back to filth. In all fairness to the farmer, there have been issues with flooding which have posed challenges to cleanliness. However, that's only a portion of the year, and doesn't explain the remainder. It's primarily a sheep farm - though the sheep have dwindled. It also has some horses, as the owner is a horse fan. The farm is intended to be a family based farm-tourism spot, with a Christian base. I personally find the amount of swearing going on is not conducive to family atmosphere. (Neither is the level of dirt.) I also have some concerns with the appropriateness of some of the social media posts that are made, and their suitability for a family audience and with some of the decisions that are made around what is appropriate guidance and what isn't. (The girls are there for horseback riding - lets keep it at that level.) As far as riding goes, I have some concerns about safety issues. They run a pony club, which I think is a lot of fun for the younger crowd and appropriately supervised. Older kids are given a lot of unsupervised freedom, which may or may not be a good thing - depends on the rider. Location wise, it's great - close to the Walkle exit of the 417. Would I return: I have in the past, but will not in the future. Would I recommend: Not at this time. The property has great potential for development for agri-tourism serving Ottawa. I hope it happens!

I can honestly say this is the most organized stable I've ever been too. Rules are clear,…read moreprocesses are defined and horses are colour coded (or at least their tack is). They offer lessons and boarding at reasonable prices. They have quality instructors. They are safety conscious. Their school horses are well chosen for the job. Maplewood also offers an affordable show team experience. (When I say affordable - it's relative to many other stables. :-) Sports involving horses are going to be more expensive than many other sports.) Overall this is a good stable, very suited to beginner and intermediate riders who want to learn, have fun and optionally do some casual showing . (If you want to go to the Olympics, find another stable and a lot more money.) :-) Oh yeah - horses are well cared for, there's a dog and 3 cats who love to socialize and everything is kept spic and span. We've found that it's worth the 1/2 hour drive from 417 and St. Laurent area, compared to other stables accessible to us. Would I recommend: Yes Woudl I return: Yes

This is a wonderful route to follow, especially if you can find a time when it is not busy with cars. I went out on March 7th around 1pm, and it was lovely. The air was crisp, and there were no cars. The view along the river is breathtaking, and offers several opportunities to venture off the road and shore. The whole parkway is about 22km one-way, and there seemed to be a gentle slope. The actual parkway road is decent, however the surround streets you use to access it are ridden with potholes. I would suggest bringing your bike to one of the parking lots in the park and setting out from there. I am sure it can only get lovelier as the weather gets warmer, and the festivals and tourists dots the landscape. From my understanding the parkway is heavily used by cyclists in the summer, this is comforting. Also, I found drivers passing me on the road gave me a lot of room. I will definitely keep riding this route, and return once the snow clears to explore the park! The only downside to cycling, is the actual parkway is not very long. You could do the stretch multiple times but your passing the same scenery which is boring. Once the parkway ends the roads get considerably more busy.
