I brought my 1976 MG Midget to ASM Auto Upholstery along with a carpet kit manufactured by a…read morereputable company in England. Karen, the daughter of the owner, gave me all kinds of warnings about what could go wrong with the carpet installation. She said they may break the seat bolts. The carpet kit may be cut wrong by the factory. They may have lots of trouble removing the original carpet adhesive and backing. She couldn't give me a firm estimate and would charge labor for however many hours it took. After I asked for a rough estimate, the top of her range was $1800. She charged $2100 dollars for 14 hours labor. I would have no issue with all of this if the end result was good. See my photos of the area behind the driver seat, which, luckily, is not usually visible. It's as if the installer was rushing toward the end of the installation and thought about how this area was not visible. Karen's explanation was that the carpet was inferior and that the threads can be pulled out with a tweezer. I'm not buying this. It's apparent that the installer had to pull the new carpet loose after gluing it incorrectly. Either the threads pulled through the back of the carpet or the installer just pulled the threads loose in an attempt to loosen the carpet to reposition it. There is a bunched area at the top because the carpet is still not positioned correctly. An adjacent piece of carpet that covers the transmission tunnel is installed crooked and in a way that it overlaps the piece behind the driver seat. I can't figure out why the factory cut this panel in such a way, but the way it's installed is wrong and appears to be an attempt to cover more damage to the piece behind the driver seat. After paying and driving the car home, I brought these issues to Karen's attention via email. She called me right away and said the carpet material is cheap and that some of the pieces were either too big or too small. The factory in England says on their website that the pieces are laser cut and will always fit, which may not be true. It was apparent from the beginning that Karen's initial warnings were given to ensure the validity of her "I told you so" explanations. I do understand that, with a carpet kit, they have only one chance to get it right since there is no extra carpet. If they were acting in a way to maintain their reputation, the installer would have stopped working after damaging the carpet. I would have been informed and provided with options. I could have ordered a replacement piece of carpet for a do-over. I would have paid for the additional labor. At this later time, however, the seats would have to be removed again and I'm not sure that adjacent pieces of carpet wouldn't be damaged during a do-over. Ultimately, it seems that they accept an inferior result as long as they can blame someone else - the carpet manufacturer or me, for bringing in a carpet kit. They aren't really interested in doing as good a job as they can. By stopping work to evaluate the bad result, they could have provided me with options.

I had some tears in my car's leather seats so I had this company perform the repairs. Fransisco comes to your house, picks up the seat cushions (he takes them out himself) and then returns them and reinstalls them. First the pros: the repairs are like it never even happened (see attached photos). It is convenient that he comes to your house, you don't have to take it to a shop. Fransisco is very reasonable with price and is very easy to work with. Cons: He was late in when he came to pick up the seats. The window was 11-3 and he showed up at 4. Had I known he was running late I would've been able to do some things as opposed to waiting at the house for him. When he did show up he couldn't take one of my seats because his van was too full, so he had to come back the following day anyway. When removing a seat Fransico broke a bracket cover, but was very ok with deducting the replacement cost ($20) from the bill. He also flipped a bolt around with the seat belt, causing the belt to twist and be uncomfortable to use. He fixed all these things, but it would have been nice if they hadn't needed fixing in the first place. Thus the deduction of a star.

The drawers stuck and the bottom of one of them simply fell apart and we lost part of it. After Chris picked it up, we found the missing piece and I sent him an email. He came and picked it up and put the original bottom back together. You can't even see the seam. The best part of the story is that one of the medallions around the lock on one of the upper drawers had come loose and I had put it into a small zip-lock bag. When the dresser was delivered, it was not installed. He said he didn't find it when he worked on it and I just assumed it got lost. A month later, he called and told me he had found it wedged in the bed of his pickup when unloading another job. He brought it over and installed it the next day! Absolutely fantastic work, the price was exactly as quoted and that included replacing a large oval mirror broken soon after I got it and service was absolutely tremendous! I recommend them highly and will use them again!

Back in 2023, I had a tire on my car which I thought was not properly holding air. To investigate,…read moreI went to a Discount Tire to get it inspected. They dunked it in water and found an issue with the inner rim of the wheel--some type of corrosion or wear. Since Discount Tire only sells rims, and they don't repair or offer to do so, I asked around at different shops about rim repairs. Most of them indicated that they worked with a mysterious third party wheel repair specialist in Dallas. It turns out that third party is Wheel Technologies. There happened to be a location in Austin; I first tried going there. It was a satellite office and the expectation was to bring in the wheel itself, but mine was still attached to my car. So I made the trek to Dallas to get the wheel fixed up. Arriving, you'll notice the place is located in a fairly industrial area--plenty of large rigs waiting around in the surrounding area for deliveries. There is some parking round the building, which appears to be renovated. Entering, I made my way to their main office area over wooden floors that creek when you step on them. There were around 6 large desks with folks working, and CCTV monitors showing the work area. I talked with someone who gave me a ticket and some paper work. They went over the quote and stipulated that they can only repair a wheel once, then they got to work. The total was extremely reasonable compared to obtaining a replacement rim. While there, I decided to do work in the conference room area near the entrance. It was quiet and had cushy office chairs. There was a distinct lack of Wi-Fi. Upon completion, I was able to checkout and could see where they made the repair. It's been more than a year and the repair seems to have held up quite well. Conclusion: If you have issues with rims, Wheel Technologies certainly has the expertise and equipment for repair. They clearly stipulate what they can and cannot repair, and they are straight forward in terms of cost. Many auto shops send repair work to them.
