So, last Friday, my salsa friend and I finally took the opportunity to try it out before we went dancing. The Leatherhead branch is very plush with nice comfy chairs and personalised crockery and chocolates! The staff were very friendly from the moment we walked in, being the perfect mix of helpfulness and not hovering. The menu is quite extensive with some interesting and unique dishes, several of which are in photos to give you and idea of what they look like - where's scratch and sniff when you need it to enhance the pictures? The popaddoms came with 6 chutneys and dips - I'm all about the dips and they went down well. My mango lassi was satisfyingly thick and velvety We settled on the chicken jeera and ghost (lamb) e-laziz. The portions were huge and despite the aim being not to stuff ourselves before dancing, we had little bellies by the time we walked out! The chicken jeera was packed with flavour and was the better dish. The lamb was advertised as hot, sweet and sour. Even for a seasoned curry eater like me, it was a little too hot, especially if you happen to catch a stray fresh chilli. Still, I suppose the menu warned that it would be hot! We will be back as there are still lots of dishes to try on the menu and I'm glad the Lal Akash spirit lives on

The atmosphere in here was warm, with quite a few other tables occupied, 10/10 for atmosphere here. Now, I'm a big fan of fish, though anyone I've ever spoken to would advise against it in curry. I ignored these words to the wise and decided to go for a fatoff king prawn as a starter and quickly regretted it. It's too crunchy and evidently cooked as is from frozen. Mistake. Don't eat the prawn. This was the only let down here though. I'm a big fan of nan bread and these guys seem to make them a lot thinner than your average Indian, but I was pleasantly surprised at the flavour they packed. Still a fan of the thicker ones as it's easier to tidy up all of the sauce off of your plate! The chicken here is tantalisingly tender, and the sauce is packed with all the exotic flavours you go to an Indian restaurant for. I tried my first vindaloo and was actually pleasantly surprised by how edible it was haha! The manger here is a lovely guy, chatted with us a fair bit after our meal, showed us their new app for booking and ordering and then gave us a free drink of amaretto!

Had a couple of Cobras, chicken shaslick, chicken jalfreizi, peshwari naan, bombay potatoes, potatoes with spinach, pilau rice and pompadoms. It was good to be honest but it was quite expensive compared to the old days. As I only come in here every time I come back to England every couple of years its barrable but probably wouldn't come in here that often based on the price.

So there are spicy dishes I have heard are reccommended, but I have had a very nice Korma here and another curry which was not a dhansak, but I can't remember what it was butit is creamy, mild in spicy heat and contains pineapple. It is my drunk friend. They are friendly and quick on the service late at night. I have heard tis is because the owners live north of London and therefore have to drive some 90 miles home each night to Luton. Not sure if this is true or villege myth, but I will go along with it. Thoroughly recommend both dishes. I'm not a fan of the flavour of lamb but tried my dads and the texture was really good, soft and not too chewy so if you like lamb then go for it. Best bhindi bhaji I've ever had also, so definitely recommend that. We got Amchuri Gobi which is a cauliflower based side with other bits in a sauce. Wasn't a fan of this but both my parents really liked it, so who knows. Relatively firm cauliflower. Soft naans, not burnt, good job. Had lemon rice, looked like a piece of art on the place with all the stuff that was in it, tasted really good. Not even sorry for how long this review is, this place is great. I ordered fish curry which was tasteless and bland, with a glutenous, nasty sauce. The people I went with had a lamb concontion. The meat was as tough as boots, and the sauce was harsh, bitter and with no fresh ingredients that I could see...not even a token sprig of coriander. The rice was OK, the ochra I am told also. The Tarka Dhal runny and tasteless. The bill came. Ludicrous. Quite mad. 90 pounds for three with popadam starter and a main course. The service was patchy, the room gloomy with the walls covered in hearts which looked like they had been cut out by 7 year olds....in preparation for Valentines day, and the decor, white washed brick, was the same as when the restaurant used to be the Homestead 35 years ago. Sauces are subtle and flavoured so authentically that your taste buds instantly transport you to Nepal, where the cuisine finds its inspiration. Really tender chicken and prawns that are just melt in your mouth! Can't rate the food here highly enough. Everest Spice is family run and everybody who works here seems to care, and maybe that is the difference. By far my favourite restaurant in Surrey, and maybe in all of the South East!
