We loaded up on stuff to feed a bunch of wedding-goers for a few days; we got starchy stuff, vegetables, sparkling water, condiments, and so on. Prices are a little higher than most stores, but the quality is fine. They don't have specialty items like deli sandwiches and charcuterie and stuff like that, but all the staples are available, and the butcher section is spot on. Lots of local, carefully-raised stuff from ranches in the area. We thought we would have to pack in everything we were going to eat, but were able to pick up most of what we needed right in town.

A few days ago I walked in and the entrance was covered in garbage and inside the store was no better. I called and spoke with a manger but she blames it on the "local workers", saying they were messy instead of taking the responsibility for her store being dirty. It was pretty disappointing that she made a slightly racist comment. The workers never want to help and seem to wander around aimlessly on their phones. I'm not trying to shame anyone at all but a lot of the clothes the workers wear are pretty dirty looking and don't even look like they want to be there at all. There was a worker saying he didn't even want to be there, which is silly to say so loudly in front of customers. Maybe they don't, but maybe customer service isn't for them then, and maybe the managing should be doing a better job at managing.

Most of the businesses here have a high volume of alcohol and cigarette sales. The Malo Store used to have gas for sale too. Unfortunately, this Ferry County area and many of the people here are involved with substance abuse, alcoholism, and organized crime activities. There is a network of surveillance criminals in this very rural area, and trafficking out of businesses is routine. I've been targeted for ongoing surveillance burglaries, vandalism, and even poisoning at my home very close to the Malo Store as well (appx 350 feet away). I don't think many businesses like this would even exist in Ferry County if there weren't trafficking going on out of them now due to the organized crime activities and money laundering here, unless they were a government-connected business or government organization like the USPS across the highway. The Malo store property is currently for sale the last time I went by the store. The Malo trailer court is less than a mile north of this property, and the surrounding inhabitants appear to me to be a very unsavory, criminal crowd to be living near from my targeted surveillance organized crime experiences in Ferry County.

Now we all know Starbucks inside Safeway are not the exact same as Starbucks on their own but these women I saw for the few days I was there, were hard working and always busy. Service was a tad slower than a "normal" Starbucks but it gave me time to go get a sandwich and other things in the store while my coffee was made. Sadly, they have a tea shortage at this Starbucks and deserve better deliveries than they are getting. I hope there is something they can do about that (or at least someone to complain to) All in all, the Safeway was great... was glad to have Starbucks and if I am ever back in Omak, I will be happy to shop here again.

According to Public Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry there are exemptions to the mask mandate and all businesses private or public legally must honor these exemptions. If the businesses do not want unmasked people in their store they legally need to offer an accomodation to the person with the disability. Not only do they display a sign outfront saying "no exemptions" which is illegal, they did not offer an accomodation, as in a curbside pick up, they are telling people to "get out and not come back" This is not only illegal but it is very bad for the business of "AG FOODS" as a whole, including every single independent grocer associated with them. I and all others associated with me, as it stands, will never spend another penny in any AG FOODS outlet again. The sign they display which says "no exemptions" needs to be removed and replaced with one that says that "anyone with a mask exemption will be accommodated" and explain the way they plan to accommodate them, in accordance with the law. BOYCOTT this business, its well worth the drive 15min to Grand Forks to businesses that follow the law and do not discriminate against the disabled! Shame on them!
