The class is horrible. The instructor has no rhythm and she is very hard to understand. The music selections that are used are nowhere near true to bachata clásico. I have tried attending their classes at both Ritmo Room and at Bar Vegan but neither are impressive. They should be embarrassed to call themselves a Latin dance venue. No one should even consider attending unless they find a real instructor who can ACTUALLY dance. Shame too because the venues are very nice. Long story short, if you get to the class and the instructor says her name is Annie, just go home and don't waste your time or money.

The Massry Center is a great little theater right in the heart of Albany. We recently attended a…read moremusical performance in the theater and the acoustics in the venue are great, the common areas are bright and clean, and the ticketing/arrival process was seamless and easy. The Massry has teamed up with Troy Savings Bank Music Hall for their scheduling/ticketing this season and the line-up they are presenting is a wonderful, diverse selection of music. I am looking forward to attending future performances at this venue and seeing what direction they move to with their programming. With a number of bars and restaurants within walking distance, it's easy to make seeing a performance at the Massry into a true evening out.

I had read from previous posts that the theater had been moved to Jeanne Jugan Lane in Latham, NY part of the Ashfield Apartments and was very surprised at how very nice the place was. It is a small maybe 100 seats or so, elevated comfortable cushioned modern theater with no obstructed views. There was also an entrance area that sold wine, beer, coffee and cake before the show and at intermission. The show lasted about 1hr 15 min with a 15 minute intermission. I personally thought it was an enjoyable evening for a small town theater.

The Albany Symphony with David Alan Miller were the heroes this time. Friendly ushers gave the children passports so the children could identify each instrument they tried and put a sticker next to it. This is a very well thought out project for children to keep their interest while they are being exposed to a variety of instruments. Free t shirts were given to the children as well. The people who assisted the children with the instruments were patient, knowledgeable and very encouraging. John Keal Music Store was responsible for providing the instruments. Then the concert started---- fabulous ----and so informative. An opera singer appeared in several roles engaging the audience in lively banter. David Alan Miller comes flying out in a Superman outfit to the delight of all. HE IS SUPERB. He entertained, engaged and conducted for one hour--- a great time frame for children. He ran off stage at the end of the concert and personally greeted all on their way out. The show was 20.00/adults and FREE for children. May 4, 3019 will be the next performance --- May the fourth/force be with you. All the audience are encouraged to dress up and enjoy it all. Put this on your calendar for sure.

The lead talent was excellent, and all was well done. I ordered tickets online, and there's more regret: the staging was different from years past. I thought getting seats which seemed close but to the side would give us a good view, but no. The action was just in the center of the stage, and the sides of the stage blocked off/covered by scenery. It made it very difficult to see the whole ensemble, especially at the angle we were at. Literally, probably the quarter of seats on the left and right sides had difficulty seeing. If you go- sit in the very center. I got a stiff neck from sitting in their chairs since I had to keep my head turned the whole show! P. S. - the ladie's rooms looked great - clean and maybe renovated?

Woo-hoo... summer is here, covid is rolling down and the music begins!…read more One of the nicest venues in the area DH and I try to attend a night of outdoor summer theater in Washington Park before our vacation in August. The show begins at 8pm and we arrive early around 4pm to bring our chairs and get a parking place not to far away then we walk to the many restaurants in the area and have dinner! The professional company has adult and children musicals that offer choice seats for purchase and free seats (bring your own chair) amphitheater style raised seating on the hill. Great seats where ever you sit! Just a wonderful evening we have been enjoying for quite a few years now. Regretfully I don't know why we didn't try it sooner maybe when our kids were younger it's so important to offer your children access to the arts!

We attended "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder!" on opening night. I think it may have been…read moreonly the second or third live opera performance we've ever attended. The fact that it was in English, a comedy, and at a venue that we have been wanting to check out (Universal Preservation Hall), is what drew us to purchase tickets. The cast were all excellent, not only as singers, but also as actors. Each was able to portray their individual role quite realistically. There were a couple of comical mishaps that I was unable to decide if they were planned, or truly unexpected but well covered by the performer (e.g., loss of a mustache). Not to take anything away from the singers, I found it more difficult at times to understand what the female singers were saying during their higher ranges, but that may just be a function of my personal hearing. The approximately ten-piece orchestra was excellent. The choreography and use of the former church's layout was taken advantage of to its maximum. The physical setup of the seating is mostly good. Any seat in the balcony has a totally unobstructive view. Stadium seats on the main floor are also unobstructed and closer to the stage. It is a few of the rows of seats on the main floor along the sides of the stage that may have some obstructive views if the patrons sitting in the row in front of you interfere with your view. We definitely will consider attending future performances by Opera Saratoga when they are held at UPH.

There is a concession stand that sells tea and pastries run by volunteers. There are plenty of nice ushers that will direct you to your seat. Overall the experience was nice an I would come again.
