This rating is only for the our sandwich experience. On our way to Eureka, we made a stop in Ferndale so I could see the Victorian buildings. My two older kids were starving and while we walked through town, we found Ferndale Meat Co . and saw that they sold sandwiches. Prices were great - $9 for a whole, $6 for half sandwich. There is also a dining area adjacent to the area where you order, and it has a ton of pictures of award winning livestock, and it's where the restroom is located. In addition to sandwiches, they also sell sausages and butchered meat by the pound. They also have a basket with little bags of Ferndale sand for sale. Hahaha We picked up 2 order forms, filled them out and gave it to the employee. Not sure how they run their business, but it wasn't very busy, and it didn't seem like anyone was really working. OMG, it took about 45 min to get the sandwiches. Once we got them and the boys sat down to eat them, we realized that the sandwiches were made wrong. They were both supposed to be hot sandwiches and they both were cold. My oldest son's sandwich was missing the pickles. But he was so hungry he didn't send it back to get fixed. My middle son's sandwich was supposed to have mustard, and no mayo, but he got mayo no mustard. I had to go back a couple times with the order ticket to show the lady what we actually ordered and for her to warm the sandwich. She apologized and offered to make a brand new one, but at this point we had already waited so long we said it was fine and just asked for a side of mustard so that he could put it in the sandwich. I am really disappointed with this experience at Ferndale Meat Co., I can't believe it took so long to get our entire order made wrong. It's a freaking sandwich, how hard could it be? Fun fact, Guy Fieri used to live in Ferndale and currently owns the Ferndale Meat building. read more

Great ribeye steaks, which we brought home and grilled to perfection we'll be back!

The sandwich is generic but the bad review is left for the service and super long wait. We waited for 30 minutes for these 2 basic sandwiches. The lady took everyone's order and made them all the same time. Made everyone wait for a very long time. It's just not worth it for 2 average tasting sandwiches. read more

Stopped for a quick lunch while walking around Ferndale. Sandwich was hearty, delicious, and well priced. Quite a line waiting to pick up and order but food came fairly quick. Even got called "darling" a couple of times! read more

We had our processed here. It was easy to order and pickup the cow once it was butchered. Great service and friendly staff.

A month ago my friend and I were just checking out Ferndale town and popping into every store on Main Street. Ferndale meat was one of them. We were intrigued by the store front how everything was a flashback in time. From the taxidermy to the meat lockers. A lady in the front popped up with excitement and said we could check out the meat in the back. We were like.... Hell yea and got to take selfies! I came in today and the same lady greeted me and asked what I was looking for. I said red meat, but not sure which. She came around the front case and showed me all the good stuff. I walked out with about 6lbs of New York steak. She sliced them for me and asked if I wanted them seasoned. I was like.., excuse me? I've never ever been asked that. Of course I said YES!!! I just cooked them tonight and they were damn delicious!! I've found my butcher shop yayyyyyyyy. I'm officially in LOVE with HUMBOLDT. Cash or check only! read more

Delicious fresh cut pastrami and tri tip. Sourdough bread was good also. Enjoyed the sandwich and didn't pay an arm and leg for real meat.

Absolutely love this place ! My man and his family have their meat butchered here and we love the meat lockers! Ambiance is great The lady makes the best sandwiches ever and is super helpful even though she is always so busy ! Believe Trish is her name and she even helped us with our meat tag! Super great at counter we appreciate you read more

Really good sandwiches. My wife and I split a two-meat sandwich and it was definitely enough for both of us. The lunch total cost with two bottles of water was $10.50...What a deal. This was a refreshing break from the overpriced, overhyped restaurants in Eureka and Arcata. Dining area is a little spartan but it's a great sandwich to take on a picnic in this beautiful little town. Highly recommend. read more

Wow! Fantastic selection of locally sourced meet and they served me the best smoked Tri-tip sandwich I have ever had. Yum read more

Wonderful service and sandwiches! A group of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our sandwiches and drinks. Walked to the park and had a lunch!

This place is a cute little meat market and deli right on Main Street. It's been around forever. Seriously, check the certificates on the wall. I ordered a really tasty sandwich for 3.50. Which was worth the 3.50 but probably not much more as the bread wasn't the best quality but the meat was divine. Service was quick and friendly and when I'm in a meat eating mood this is my first stop for lunch. Mmm, meat. read more

Great place for a deli sandwich! Love to stop here to pick up a sandwich before heading to the beach.

I have been going to this place since I was little. I used to get there salami with my grandma. Now I get their Italian sausage. The staff is always so nice and helpful. We were buying frozen sausages today, the lady said she had some fresh ones and packed them up for us. Gotta love that! Highly recommend them! read more

Wow the sandwich was big enough for two people. We had tri tip with Swiss cheese. A bag of chips and we were on our way. Super friendly staff. Well worth the stop. Thank you. read more

one of the workers was at the sandwich bar making himself a sandwich without gloves, I don't think any worker here uses gloves, and he was licking his fingers. I'm glad it wasn't my sandwich but it literally made me so uncomfortable seeing that I almost left before I had to pay. Very aggressive, short responded workers, with extremely little detail when asked about what I was getting. I've never ever seen any of them wearing masks ever. if you're ever worried about getting sick or catching Covid, don't go here. read more

We are staying in town and have access to a BBQ. We knew we wanted something from Ferndale Meats. We were treated as soon as we walked in. My wife stated we wanted some rib eyes. After confirming the amount and how thick of a cut we wanted, we were asked if we wanted the meat seasoned. YES PLEASE !! The girl grabbed the meat and took it back to be cut. A few short moments later we were out the door with our purchase. While eating tonight, we all agreeded, there is no better meat being served tonight in any fancy steakhouse than what we were enjoying. read more

If you remove the historic building and small town charm the place is just "Meh"... We were "helped" by the not-so-helpful employee behind the counter that was glued to her phone and had little to no knowledge of their products. We asked how their sausage was prepared and her response was "the seasoning is really yellow... I don't really know what it is honestly... but it's SO good!" ... Uhh, ok? Well we brought the large, frozen, oblong package of "sausage" wrapped in paper home only to find that it was simply ground pork! Slightly mislabeled if you ask me but hey. They also had very little meat in their case and the stuff that was in there was not labeled or organized at all. The placed seemed a bit unkept quite frankly. Expected more. read more

Nice friendly old school meat market that we saw on Triple D. We stopped in on the way out of Eureka and grabbed some Italian Sausage, and Oops #19 and also saw some hot dogs in the case and bought a pack of those as well. So far we have cooked the Italian sausages and they were the best that I have ever had. They are absolutely no comparison to store bought like Johnsons or New York and even better then the ones I recently purchased from the Italian Deli out here in the Bay. In case anyone was curious, cooked them in some olive oil covered in a frying pan, had some polenta and also sautéed greens. Perfect meal! read more

This is a meat market that also does sandwiches for locals and tourists. The food was good. Since it was a rainy day we decided to eat in their little dining area, just like everybody else did that day. There are only about 6 tiny tables, and at one point they were all occupied. The staff was friendly and helpful. read more

What a nice find in a small town. We wanted some good sandwiches to take with us for our trip to the Avenue of the Giants. I found this tip on yelp and I have to say the sandwiches were excellent! I got the smoked tri tip sandwich and my hubby got the smoked chicken. Packed with delicious meat, oh so good! I wish we had a cooler to buy some of the meats and sausages they had to take home. We will definitely do that next time we are in town read more

LOVE, love, love small towns we are watchers of Food Network TV and knew that this town was a home to someone we really enjoy watching. Stopped here some good food, hubby had hopped to find some sausage as that's what we remembered from TV but ended up with a special tip sandwich. I custom made a turkey and ham sandwich that was so good and freshly made I couldn't have beat it in our own kitchen! Great small town flare, 4H pictures and certificates all over the walls. A real feel good kinda place. read more

I really love the way this place looks. It is all old-fashioned and authentic, and I'm pretty sure thats the way it looked when it was first built. The meat locker is a real-deal meat locker with cows hanging from hooks. All local, grass-fed beef and most of it is bought from 4-H kids from the area so I though that was pretty cool. I've only had the sandwiches ( I recommend the mortadella) but I am excited to try their cuts of meat to see how it compares to grass-fed at the Co-op. read more

We stopped for sandwiches at about 3:30 on a Friday afternoon. Wow. This hit the spot. The sandwiches are made to order. It isn't fancy - just basics but the ingredients are so GOOD. This isn't a regular run of the mill deli. This is a real meat shop. The pastrami had a slight smokey flavor - yum. The cheese was wonderful too. I'm sure it must have been local. Make sure you have plenty of napkins. The only thing to watch for is the mustard. It is good but unless you're a huge mustard fan ask for it to be on the light side. We also got a variety of sausages - all were really good. I'll be back (the ribs in the case were beautiful) read more

Bought Tri-Tip to cook at home. They vacuum seal it so the excellent seasoning permeates the meat thoroughly. It came out tender and tasty. The spices didn't overpower the meat flavor. Their bratwurst is also excellent. read more
