I knew it initially as the upstairs was a venue for Liverpool Sound City, back when it took place primarily in the Ropewalks area. I've eaten there, I've taken tea there, I've had drinks there with my friends. The staff are great and the patrons often even more so: if Liverpudlians hear a non-Scouse accent here, anticipate their desire to start a conversation and help a visitor out. Choose a place to sit, order at the bar and tell the staff where you're sitting, and wait for your order to appear, delivered by someone with an adorable Scouse accent. The food portions tend to be pretty big: you're in the North, lads and lasses. The more you talk to English people of a certain age, and even a wider swath of ages the further north you go, the more you come to realize just how important the ritual of tea drinking is to them. The illuminated sign "Where there's tea, there's hope" in the shop isn't a joke. When you're at the bar, you'll see the coffee machine, sure, but you'll also see the many canisters of tea on offer. Tea here comes in individual see-through pots, showing Leaf's modern edge on a long-standing English/British tradition. You simply must order tea here because you're totally missing out if you don't. It's called Leaf for a reason! There is a small alcove 'shop' adjacent to the bar where you can pick up tea bags, diffusers, and the like. It gets very busy at lunch and brunch times; pack patience. There's a weird quirk about the front door: you need to push it because it opens inward, which seems odd because it's a really big glass door and oftentimes shop doors in England open outward. Also, you need to serve yourself water from the dispenser at the bar, something I always seem to forget until a staff member taking my order sets me right. A Manchester outpost of Leaf now exists, but I can't imagine it would ever compare favorably to the original location. I miss the pescetarian full breakfast and while they've now got small plate options, this is the kind of place I'd always order one big dish for either lunch or dinner. You'll be glad you did.

If you are looking for this store, it is quite close to the ODEON cinema, and it is well hidden compared to the likes of Pizza Express and Caffe Rouge, who all have nearby stores. The store is actually quite big, and the first thing that hit me was the loud music, luckily I sat towards the back of the large store, hence it wasn't as bad for me. (Who goes out to eat, at a concert, Nando's thinks people do!) Unlike, at every other branch of Nando's I visited, they was no one to sit me at a table, so I just waltzed in, and found a table. It is the standard Nando's menu of course, and they do accept Starbucks cards here. This store is quite nice, it is very big and even has circular booths, for large parties, but unfortunately these seemed to be all taken on my visit. The staff here seemed okay, at the "bar", I was served by a trainee so it was a little slow and not the best possible service, but for a trainee, it was a good standard, and I have actually had worse service from managers of stores in the past. Service here seemed very slow and it actually taken 25 minutes to get my food, Nando's is a little pricy with my meal costing just over £10 for Chicken Butterfly and two portions of chips, but it is the typical chain prices and in a way, for the quality it does represent value for money. I'd say this is one of the nicer branches of Nando's for food, my chicken and the mango and lime flavouring was quite nice, and so were my chips, however the service here is pretty slow compared to other stores, which could mean having to seat yourselves and / or having to wait considerably longer for your food, than a different branch, which is one of the main reasons for the store's rating being lower than what I'd have liked to give. The drinks here, I find far too pricy especially for iced tea, and the best drink to get is just paying £2.50 for the glass and getting unlimited fizzy drink, but I don't find their to be a cheaper, value for money alternative for someone, who does not like fizzy drinks. This Nando's store is a nice store, with food that is up to a good standard, but the service is the one thing that seems to let it down along with some pricing issues, so I feel the highest I can give this store is 3 stars.

Full of mid-century modernist furniture, with a piano in one corner and leafy green plants sticking out of every other. A print of Leslie Knope on the wall next to another of Blondies Debbie Harry sharing space with posters of characters from Wes Anderson movies help reinforce the easy going vibes. The first reason for this is its fantastic location within the dockside area, to sit here and relax with a quality cup of coffee is a relaxing and enjoyable experience no matter what time of year it is. Essentially a visit here is just a great little filler on any day out around the docks and it is a chance to relax in a wonderful ambience. The staff are great and do as much as they can to make you feel at home which includes serving up great coffee and tasty snacks such as slices of cake to go along with it. You may think you know Costa Coffee but check out this place and it may give you a whole new view.
