I was not feeling that great physically so I decided to chill in my room this day and order some take out. I came across this place on DoorDash and thought, "Hmm they sound good." After doing a little research I found out that they do New York Style bagels, something I've never had. Why not try some while close to New York? I ordered a Lox Bagel Sandwich on Salted Garlic, Toasted Bagel, a small Coffee with Maple Syrup and Almond Milk and a Propel Water. That sandwich was everything and the salted garlic option was the best choice I could have made! The bagel while toasted was still so soft and tasted differently from every other bagel I've ever had. My mom would probably say "it's the water". Maybe she's right. I loved it. The coffee was delicious too. Everything Maple while in Vermont, right? Definitely worth the order and it made me feel a little better. Thanks a bunch! read more

Service was friendly and no frills, food came out quickly although it was late Saturday afternoon with only a few customers after all. After purchasing a dozen bagels for the second time in about 3 weeks from the Shelburne Rd store the second dozen was also very stale, not just stale, but so stale my bagel cutter had tough time getting through them. I called the Pine Street store, because I couldn't get through to Shelburne road store. The answer when I told them my problem was "Oh yes, I think they received yesterday bagels. I will call them and see what we can do" OK fine. When I received the reply "Well you can come to the Pine Street store and we will replace them" to which I replied " I am disabled, which I am and the parking loot is difficult for me to manage as it is on a slope." At which point I just said I would just get my bagels from their competition. I really answer would have been we will have someone bring up a fresh dozen either today or tomorrow. I would have been delighted with that. They do come up to Shelburne everyday to deliver "fresh" bagels. Under the circumstances that should have been the easy reply. If I could give no stars, I would. I went in for a bagel this morning (April 22) around 7:00 am, the manager (??) was there with his young son. He was loudly telling another staff member "No, don't fire her. Just put her on the schedule for one hour a week for the next month and make her quit that way". There is nothing less appealing than listening to a manager broadcast the crappy way they treat their employees, and it really gives some insight into why this restaurant may be "understaffed". Growing up in NY and NJ, I have been blessed with an overabundance of excellent bagels. Yet with this blessing comes the dreadful curse that no bagel outside the NY metro area could ever compare. I've had bagels in Florida (blech), Chicago (ehhh), Puerto Rico (no thanks) with no luck. With that being said: I introduce you to Feldman's Bagels in Burlington, VT. I have been coming to this city for over 30 years with the better of bagels at Bruegger's which was no comparison to local establishments in NYC, but Feldman's is a welcomed site. The staff is friendly. It just reminds me of my hometown in Lower East Side Manhattan with authentic NY style bagels. If you didn't eat a NY style bagel in NY from a Jewish bakery or eat a H&H bagel, you have not eaten a real bagel or a bialy. Update: I go here less frequently, maybe every few months, because the bagels are okay but not as good as the owner's previous shop called Burlington Bagel Bakery & Cafe in South Burlington. I used to pick up bagels on each of my NYC trip, but I don't need to do that anymore. Feldman's is the closest thing I have found to NYC bagels. I've tried the different brands of bagels that are available through Hunger Mountain Food Coop, City Market, Burlington Bagel, etc. I wouldn't compare these the Myer's Bagel... Montreal Style Bagels are a totally different beast (also delicious). Feldman's is about 1.3 miles from my office, and it's totally worth the walk! Mainly a bagel and coffee place, there is a small menu for sandwiches but for the price, I wouldn't recommend getting a breakfast sandwich here. If you're coming here for breakfast definitely try out the medium selection of interesting bagel and cream cheese fillings. The size if the bagels is roughly medium size, which for me was kind of disappointing. I got the pumpernickel bagel with walnut honey cream cheese filling, it was tasty but wasn't exactly delicious. Coffee is of standard taste. I recommend going here for an easy breakfast date with someone since the ambiance is great, lots of lighting, and there's a place for dogs outside, but that's about it. read more

They had three different Tofutti cream cheese flavors which was convenient for those who are dairy free and it tasted great. I used to think that bagels were just a bulky vehicle for cream cheese. Feldman's Bagels opened in my work neighborhood, and I have since seen the light! Their bagels are amazing, the staff is consistently kind, friendly and patient. The space is airy and comfortable. On top of that, they make their own pickles, bagel dogs and soup! The matzo ball soup is worth it's weight in gold! I have taken to bringing it to any friends who get sick. The coffee is great, and my boys love that they can get hot chocolate! When I first arrived in Burlington, in the 1970's, there were no locally made NY style bagels. I returned from every trip home to NJ with a few dozen frozen bagels, the best I could do, but definitely a compromise. When Roy Feldman opened the original Burlington Bagel Bakery in 1979, my prayers were answered This New England college town spawned other bagel shops, not surprising, given the large population of students and settlers hailing from the NYC area. The BBB was sold after about 9 years. Roy, with his daughter Maddy, opened Feldman's Bagels in 2013, in a former tire store. I'm as fond as ever of their authentic, crispy crusted traditional fare, along with other delights from my childhood; bialys, chicken soup with matzoh balls, kosher salami sandwiches, and more. A variety of spreads, including a yogurt softened light cream cheese and a very tasty pesto cream cheese, cater to more contemporary palettes. Bright and airy, with a library cart full of books to peruse, Feldman's rejects the production line feel of many such establishments. Around back, the former garage bays of this converted tire store are being rented as studio spaces for local artists, furthering the exploding dynamism of Burlington's south end arts district.
