I was a patient of Dr. B's for over 4 years. In that time, I was always on time, never missed an…read moreappointment, stayed on top of his occasionally forgotten or erroneous prescriptions, and complied with any changes to their practices, care, and paperwork. In May of this year, I lost my mom, and have been struggling more that usual. The doc was very aware of this. For that reason, for the first time ever, I forgot to schedule my most recent recurring appointment. I received zero phone calls, zero reminders, zero communication from the office whatsoever that I was due or overdue for my next visit - and then out of the blue received a TEXT message that because I have "missed several appointments" (not true - I had simply forgotten to schedule my next visit, not missed an actual appointment) I am no longer welcome as a patient and that "Dr. B has discharged you from his care." When trying to reach them for further clarification, they rejected my calls. A psychiatrist carries the safety of some of the most vulnerable patients in our population. People at risk for self harm, deep depression, or struggles with other disorders that put them at increased risk of danger to themselves or others. In many cases, their psychiatrist is their only point of safety and security during the worst time in their lives. Dr Bircea used his medical license and power to take that away from me, mid-care, mid-crisis, simply because I was late in scheduling my next appointment. The abandonment been devastating for me, and I cannot understate the long term effects this will have. In my case, it's too late to repair the damage, but I want to urge you all to seek care elsewhere to avoid this happening to you as well. I hope both current and future patients read this and think twice about continuing or beginning care with Dr. Bircea. Lastly, I want to add (before the office responds to this with any comments) to anyone who wonders how this office handles patient care in general outside of this callous act of abandonment, you need only look across the platforms at the various replies by the receptionist to other complaints. They are defensive, insulting, patient blaming, and even go so far as to say that the patient is "not deserving of Dr. B's care." I believe these replies speak volumes to the general lack of empathy, professionalism, and recognition of the field of medicine that they practice in.

Dr. Bircea is the best Psychiatrist I have worked with. He genuinely cares about his patients,…read moretheir well being and constantly offers great medical advice. Almost every appointment I get some kind of print out with valuable information surrounding diet and exercise, stress relievers, etc. Dr. B - Thank you for responding to my countless emails! The office manager- Alina is the glue that holds the practice together. She is simply the best and has a great personality for the job. I do not know how she does it! Alina- Thank you for ALWAYS going up, over and beyond!

The reception staff leaves much to be desired. It's like they picked up any bum from the street as…read moretelephone people. Disorganized and nasty. If the phone staff is like this, I'd be scared to know what the doctors are like. Upon my doctor's recommendation as it was in my neighborhood, I decided to give this office a try. At first I was impressed as they had an online intake form to fill out. I sent it in on Tuesday expecting a call Wednesday. Nothing. Same thing Thursday. So I called on Friday and told the telephone rep the problem. She said they look at the online paperwork submissions on Saturdays and she'd give me a call then. Saturday came and went, no call. So I sent an email on Saturday night. They finally got back to me today, Monday at the end of the day. She asked me all the questions that I initially filled out the first time. She then gave me an appointment two weeks from now and that's the best she can do for new patients. I asked her whether she had the information I filled out last week, and the woman said, 'If you don't like it you don't have to come here. I asked her If she owned the place because I doubt the doctor would feel the same way, and asked for her name. Of course she hung up the phone. I will be going to that office today. To let whoever is in charge there know what kind of staff they have. People go to the doctor for help, not this.

I've been seeing Dr. Rezk for 7 years now and I can't say enough good things about him. He's easy…read moreto talk to and takes the time to truly listen to any concerns I have, then make recommendations on where to go from there in terms of medication and/or therapy. I've had a lot of insurance changes over the years, and the medication I take always requires a new prior authorization every time this happens, and this is where Dr. Rezk and his staff truly shine. It's always a bureaucratic nightmare trying to get prior authorizations approved, and they dive in head first to get it done, even if it requires weeks of attempts. They've never once been unable to get an approval, so I'm VERY happy to have them in my corner. I can't recommend Dr. Rezk enough!

I cannot recommend Dr. Rezk based on my experience as a patient. I found him dismissive,…read moredisrespectful, intimidating, judgmental, and lacking in empathy--qualities that were especially troubling to experience in psychiatric care. Every phone appointment I had with Dr. Rezk lasted less than five minutes and was essentially limited to confirming my medications and making medication-related decisions. When I tried to explain what I was feeling, what I was going through, or how my symptoms were affecting me, I often felt cut short or was told to discuss it with my therapist. I was not expecting psychotherapy from my psychiatrist, but I did expect him to listen enough to understand the symptoms for which he was prescribing psychiatric medication. My interactions with the front desk were also disappointing. I found the staff rude, dismissive, and unhelpful when I needed assistance. I was also uncomfortable with the cleanliness of the clinic, which did not feel well-maintained or reassuring for a medical setting. My experience with an urgent documentation request was particularly shocking and upsetting. I requested a medical letter in advance for a time-sensitive matter, clearly explained what I needed documented, and paid $20 for it. What I received was a very brief, generic letter that did not address what I had specifically requested. I contacted the office to explain that I urgently needed the existing letter corrected because Dr. Rezk was leaving for a two-week vacation. When I later went to the office and asked if the letter could simply be updated, Dr. Rezk raised his voice at me, and I was told I would have to wait until he returned from his vacation despite explaining the urgency of the matter. I then asked if I could obtain my medical records instead and was also told to return after two weeks. I left without either the corrected letter or the records I needed. I was also surprised to be told that there would be charges for printing pages of my medical records, in addition to the $20 I had already paid for the letter. Taken together, my experience gave me the impression of a practice more focused on quickly moving through medication visits and transactions than on attentive patient care. As a medical student, I found this especially concerning because it was very different from the empathy, active listening, respect, and patient-centered care we are taught should be fundamental to medicine. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Dr. Rezk to anyone seeking compassionate, respectful, and attentive psychiatric care.
