Was told I could come in at 5 (great!), but to call before hand in case he was running late (oh). I called, he was running an hour and a half late, was rescheduled for the following morning. - 10 a.m. appointment. At about 10:35, a woman came out, called my name, and then disappeared. I had no idea where I was supposed to go, and when she finally reappeared, she seemed annoyed that I hadn't come to find her. These are not the most friendly people. - 10:45, Dr. Yagoda appears, same woman trailing behind him, talking about other patients while he's in the room with me. I'm sitting there, and he's clearly not engaged with me or my appointment. He asks me a few questions, but every time he asks me something, someone pops their head into the exam room and side tracks him. - 10:50, finally have dilation drops in, sent out to waiting room, where front desk staff loudly talks about family, friends, what's on TV the night before, pretty much anything but patients. I get to hear one woman on the phone with her kid asking if he's gone poo-poo or pee-pee that morning. Thanks for sharing. - 11:10 - back in exam room, same routine. Woman is in and out asking questions about other patients, Dr leaves repeatedly for several minutes at a time. Finally around 11:25 he's actually looking at my eyes again. - Noon, exam done, get to front desk to check out, only to be told that they are cash only. I got lectured for not knowing they didn't like to take credit cards (they did finally take mine) and told "next time, bring cash." Sorry, won't be a next time. When I see a doctor, I expect some degree of his undivided attention. His time was clearly more important than mine, even though I'm paying him. This practice isn't the right fit for me.

The amount charged to my insurance, which I had to cover the spillover on, was absolutely absurd. $1000 for the first minimal appointment. I called the billing office a couple of times and was not able to connect with them. I had to pay $75, and then $37, on top of my copay, for every visit I had with them, and I have great insurance. I ended up going to a different doctor uptown after 4 visits and had a much, much better experience and am on my way to healing after a year of pain.

Checking in took a bit of time because there was one receptionist but that's nothing out of the ordinary. She was very nice and checked me in with a smile within (8) minutes. I was called within (4) minutes to see the nurse who proceeded to take my vitals and asked me to wait for Dr Grossman. I waited long enough (30 minutes) that I worried I may have been forgotten. When Dr Grossman walked in, all my concerns dissipated. Here was a very pleasant gentleman who immediately put me at ease with a number of questions deriving my social history (without my ever realizing this was the purpose of the questioning as I was instead wondering why he was being so nice to me lol). I think he took an excellent medical history and did a very thorough job of "getting me in the books" as a first time patient. He asked after not only my symptoms - but also my concerns. He performed a physical exam. He was incredibly kind and patient even though I am one of those patients who comes in rarely and has multiple concerns at the same time. He went above and beyond and made sure he addressed everything - advising me on what I can do next time to address further concerns. You might be concerned about wait times but consider it from my perspective: Here's a physician taking his time and performing a thorough examination of you while he's there with you. He's taking the time to listen to all of your concerns - suggesting further testing if necessary - and coming back to wrap things up with you at the end. Total gentleman; Class act; Excellent and highly competent physician. I found it notable that X-Ray facilities are in house - literally just a walk around the hallway. I was in and out of radiology within (6) minutes. It can take 10 minutes just to catch an elevator at a hospital! Again - wood paneling and wooden changing room doors and wooden lockers; purple trim everywhere. They should use NYU wood paneling and purple trim in every corporate office in the country to increase productivity and satisfaction.

I wasn't there for a physical either, just some antibiotics for a common bacterial infection. There's simply no respect exchanged between the staff and the patients unless you accept that you're trapped in a dark cave (all windows are closed and covered) listening to terrible daytime television because if you try shutting it out with your EarPods, you'll miss them calling your name. At the time, I was very unhappy with my current PCP due to his horrible office staff. Therefore, after a bit of research, I made an appointment with Dr. Retsagi. The practice is very small. His staff consists of a lab tech (I forgot her name) and the receptionist (Rita). Both are absolutely wonderful and always give me a very warm welcome. The only negative about Dr. Retsagi is sometimes he runs a little behind. Don't be surprised if you have to wait a half an hour, but I don't mind. It just shows he is taking his time with patients. As for Dr. Retsagi himself, he is everything a doctor should be - very kind, gentle, and very knowledgeable. He truly cares about his patients and always tells me to call him anytime if I have any problems. For my pre-op testing for the lap band surgery, he left no stone unturned. He carefully reviewed all my lab reports and also ordered some additional tests. He is also extremely fast about returning phone calls in emergency situations. One thing I forgot to mention when I first wrote this review - Dr. Retsagi's business hours are from 12-8PM, which is perfect for all us working people. If you have to reach him in the morning, leave a message on his voicemail and he will get back to you ASAP.

I've been concerned about this in the past, but what convinced me to make this move was the following... About 3 years ago I turned 50yo and asked Dr. Retsagi if I should schedule for a colonoscopy, but with confident assurance he said the a stool smear test was sufficient. I asked him again, and he again restated. Since I did not look forward to the colonoscopy prep (which is, btw, not all that bad as I found out) I went along with his advice. At least once more on my last checkup I repeated my concerns and was again reassured by him. Then, about 3 months ago my heart sank when I looked into my toilet after voiding to see bright red water. The colonoscopy revealed long existing polyps that I had to wait anxiously for 2 weeks to find out were benign. I was furious! For another example, a couple of years ago I complained to him about moderate hearing loss and asked if it's possible I had ear wax. He looked and said I was fine. 6 months later I went to a specialist who exclaimed that I had a lot of ear wax. This specialist told me it was certainly possible for a regular doctor to miss this, so I let it go. My new doctor looked in my ear and told me immediately that I now have ear wax buildup again, even without my complaining about hearing loss. I am through with Dr. Retsagi!
