Store-front (literally) office. I went there for pre-op clearance which is basically a chop-shop tests for the hospital's (NYPB METHODIST DUMP ON 506 6th street) general anesthesia liability (not more mot less). Waiting rm is dirty and would nit stand up to any health dept inspections with out some "pinka pinka" exchanges ;-) The staff is friendly and seemingly efficient for what I needed then to do bit I would dread having this specialist as anything moe than a prep op clearance. read more

I am very astonished to see the negative reviews from Dr. Patel. He is very compassion man who the best of his ability tries to address your medical issues etc. please note he is a PCP he is limited to some degree. He will refer you ultimately to a specialist if your medical matters are beyond his ability domain etc. If he does not you must advocate for yourself or go to another doctor. I have done so in the 8 years I have been going to Dr. Patel, it's not personal. My issue is with the office staff. I have had conflicts with them. They have been misinformed of my copayments. Plus they only take cash for copayments etc no credit card system that's BS. read more

The people giving Dr. Patel poor reviews or calling him a con artist... are straight up crack heads. Not sure who pissed in their Cheerios the day they spewed their negativity, but I've been seeing him for years and highly recommend him. He is kind, thorough, and professional. You don't need an appointment to see him and his office is pretty much always open. He's so great that, when he left his former practice, I transferred to his new one. The one thing I will say is that the caliber of his office staff has gone down significantly in recent years. While most of them are still friendly, there is one monster of a human being who works at the front desk. She seriously does not deserve to be employed here or anywhere else. I have never been treated more disrespectfully in my life than I was by her. Since she refused to give me her name (I later found out it's BELEM, in case you're wondering), I took her photo; you can find it with this review. If you go to Dr. Patel and she's the one to greet you, good luck. This woman has the IQ of a goldfish and the social skills of an infant chimpanzee. She needs to leave that chip on her shoulder at home and do her job efficiently and respectfully. Edit: Today, I received a highly inaccurate and wildly inappropriate message from the receptionist regarding the photograph. As per her request, the photo has been removed; however, just thought I'd share the quality of service you can expect to receive: "Do me a Favor and take my picture down before i press charges on you for taking a picture without my consent why you mad because you didnt have your 15$ copay you the broke one hunny" For clarification, on this particular day, I went to Dr. Patel to receive treatment from an accident that resulted with getting strong chemicals in my right eye. The issue was not that I'm "broke," but that I accidentally left my wallet in my desk at work after the accident. I've been a patient for nearly a decade and have never had an issue being billed in the past. Belem was too lazy and/or incompetent to do so and waited over an hour to tell me that in order to see the doctor, I needed the cash. For over an hour, I sat in the waiting room with a swollen, bloodshot eye. Also, she really needs to check out the laws of our state before throwing out useless threats. I am going to highlight the most important issues here: - Hygiene/Risk of infection: They placed other people's urin samples next to me while my blood was getting drawn and told me to put mine on the pile when I'm done. Also, the office is just generally dirty. - Lalit Patel refused to prescribe me the medication I need for a medical condition of mine that I have been taking for years. - Lalit Patel refused to give me the approval to go see an out-of-network type of specialist that my insurance didn't have in-network (I discussed this with my insurance first and they were on board). Another specialist had told me it's a medical necessity that I go see this type of other specialist. Dr. Patel simply would not do it, he told me to leave his office. There was no reasoning behind his decision whatsoever. - Lalit Patel is by far the rudest doctor I have ever met. An absolute garbage person. Don't even think about asking any questions. He will spend between 20-30 secs with you. - Unprofessionalism in the office (the front desk people continuously yelling and running back and forth. The whole operation is extremely unorganized. - No respect for patient's time. Absolutely ridiculous wait times. - Some of the patients that show up here are clearly on drugs/intoxicated (e.g. yelling or talking to themselves). They simply let this go on without intervening or calming the people down. read more

Never never never go here. I can't fit how many mistakes they made. They lost my chart and demanded I never came to the office, argued for an hour. They didn't call when I had major issues with my blood work. No one speaks English and they demanded to send my prescription to an inconvenient family members pharmacy instead of where I requested. DO NOT GO HERE. Lalit Patel is a con artist. Not only did he force me to come in for five different office visits for the same problem in order to charge me each time, he also gave me a series of tests without explaining why I needed them, which cost even more. He insisted I go to the hospital for another test that ended up costing me $1,500 out of pocket after insurance. He then charged me to read my results. It was very hard to understand him on the phone so he would insist I come into the office and then charged me again. Once I was done with the tests, I was told I needed to drink more water. I PAID MORE THAN $2,500 TO BE TOLD I NEED TO DRINK MORE WATER. Never go here. Don't listen to a word this man says. read more

This guy is dangerously unqualified!! It's so unfortunate that we had to register with him as our primary GP. I do not trust his prognosis at all!! My husband went to his office after spending a whole day in the ER, two weeks after he had a concussion in India. Of course, he was suspicious to have post concussive syndrome, but we weren't sure. Dr. Patel, didn't write him any tests, even the most basic ones. He didn't send him to get a CT Scan, which I assume is pretty common considering the circumstances. Instead, he prescribed him some antibiotics just because he "guessed" he might've picked "something" in India! Anyway we weren't happy with his service at all, but unfortunately we didn't have another choice at that point like many people who desperately need medical care in Brooklyn and that's all they get! read more

I'm not one to write negative yelp reviews, but I feel I need to warn people about this place. I wish I would have read the review that was posted on here because I completely agree with it. So, I went in for routine blood work. I'm used to my previous doctor who would always call me as soon as the results came in to tell me if everything was normal. He would also fax me a copy if I wanted. So, When I went to see Dr. Patel and asked him if he could pull blood the first thing he told me was that he could try to pull the blood at his office, but couldn't guarantee that the lab would run the correct blood work. He said he doesn't trust the lab he uses and sometimes they don't get results. He doesn't trust his lab? Then maybe he shouldn't be pulling blood in office. Perhaps, he should use a different lab? This just didn't make his office sound very professional. Either you can submit blood or you cannot. It has been a month now....and no phone call about results. I have called about 10 times and they refuse to tell me if everything is normal or not. They also refuse to fax, email or mail me my results. They said I have to come in and pay for another office exam if I want to get my results. Otherwise, they will not release my results to me. I have never heard of such a thing. I already went for my exam. I would just like a phone call saying everything is normal or there is a problem and come in. So, if they have a patient with a serious problem that needs to be addressed right away....they won't tell them? They will just wait until they can come in for another appointment or never release results? They keep saying they have to ask the doctor and they may charge me to send me the results. However, nobody calls back and I am still waiting for results....one month later. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! Rudest, most unprofessional office I've ever been to... They told me they took my insurance, then called and insisted I pay out of pocket, yelling at me, and when I asked them to bill insurance they passed the phone to the doctor himself, and he called me a liar and told me not to speak to his staff that way and never call again... The office visit was worthless. Had NO advice for my issues, NO EXAGGERATION, I took a blood test for vitamin deficiencies, and then they wanted me to pay for another office visit to tell me the results instead of calling me as an extension of the first visit like a normal office... They also made me wait 45 min to see the doctor even though I was the only one in the office. When I went to pick up the 6 page work-up, the doctor came out and instructed the receptionist in an angry tone that she charge me 75 cents per page for printing it out. I waited another hour for them to give me the printout as well. I cannot stress enough, WORST doctor experience. read more

Only giving 1 star for the hours. Went there recently after a few years and realized why I left. They ran unnecessary tests saying It was needed for a physical. I told them twice I did not need these tests and they pressured me into taking them sure enough I now owe his office almost $400 out of pocket. I am reporting him to my insurance co. HORRIBLE! UNTRAINED/UNQUALIFIED. MONEY HUNGRY. UNFRIENDLY/NO CARE FOR PATIENT. I wish I read all these reviews before going here. Didn't know yelp had doctors listed. Absolute worst experience in my life. Woman at front counter didn't know what BCBS (Blue Cross Blue Shield) was and forced me to call my insurer back and forth three times before offering me any service. Went there, receptionists refuse to lend me a phone charger so I could call my parents, not even trying to find me one, insisting nobody in the office had one. After going in for the appointment, I asked the first assistant I saw, who gave me one. Left saying I'd go to St Louis for surgery so I could be with my family. 5 mins after leaving, they call saying they will set up a surgery date for me ASAP. Never before have they tried to be so helpful. I also already told them I would not be using them and they were trying to pressure me by saying I need you to schedule today otherwise I would miss the lucky opportunity of a early surgery appointment. After refusing I went to CVS to get paid killers Patel perscribed, but he wrote the prescription date incorrect, so I had to wait 1.5 hours there to get it resolved. Someone from the office had to come deliver a rewritten prescription. Patel was rude and condescending during consultation. Not what you need when you are in need. read more

I have never left an internet review but I had such a bad experience with Dr. Lalit Patel and his office manager that I wanted to warn my Park Slope neighbors about it. I believe that this doctor is dishonest and over charges - that was my experience. My wife and I needed a simple blood test so that we could be hospital volunteers at Methodist Hospital. He required us to come back to the office just to get the results so that he could charge two co-pays and bill the insurance twice. I later found out that the other volunteers at Methodist only had to visit their doctor once. After our first visit, I asked if he could just send over the results to Methodist Hospital and he said that we had to come back to his office but that he would not charge us a 2nd co-pay. Well, we went back and he refused to give us the results unless we paid a second co-pay and he charged our insurance again! Beware, this doctor is dishonest and only in it for the money. Also, the office is dirty and the office staff is very rude. Specifically, the office manager started yelling at my wife when she questioned why we were being charged twice. My wife is pregnant, wanted to avoid the stress, and just decided to pay the second time and let them bill our insurance again. I tried to sort it out over the phone after the fact and this office manager woman screamed at me and hung up the phone. I tried calling back and she continued screaming and hung up again. It is evident that the individual who made the original post knows this Office very well! I have had an experience where a blood sample was taken and this doctor submiited fraudulent claims to my insurance for excessive visits and procedures I did not undergo. The claims were rejected and so, his office had the audacity to contact me solicitng monies for imaginary services and submission of fallacious billing codes. After factually explaining to my insurance what was completed; I called the Doctor's Office for clarity where they denied everything blaming my insurance. They are disgustingly disorganized,uncouth and in no uncertain terms unworthy of practicing medicine. And then he tried to charge me for a second visit just to see the results from my blood test. He refuses to give me a copy of the results of my test. Don't go here. His office faxed over a Rx for a patient that we never serviced without the patient's phone number, insurance info. Called the office to try and get the information, his response was "if the patient needs it, they will contact you". This rx is for a sleeping device. Dr. Patel is only concerned about money in addition to being highly incompetent. After going there for 2 years, I needed some papers to be completed for the start of school. I gladly paid the copayment for my initial visit to get all of my tests done. Upon my return to get my paperwork filled out based on my results, I was informed I had to pay an additional copayment. This was not made clear to me and I was told by the staff that I should just come back to get my paperwork completed. Dr.Patel continued to say in order for him to sign the paperwork, I needed to pay. His service as a doctor and medical practitioner makes me nervous for anyone who's is treated by Him. He fails to ever be able to articulate anything that is going on in my body and makes insensitive and prejudice comments. Stay away from this office. Worst doctor I've ever been to. To say that he was completely uninterested in my well being was an understatement. I had scheduled a complete check-up. He checked my heart and lungs with his stethoscope, took my pulse and weighed me (& only because I didnt know how much I weighed when he asked me). That was the extent of his exam. WORST DOCTOR EVER! I went as a walk-in because my regular doctor was closed for the holiday and I desperately needed a seizure medication. Even though I had prove of the meds I needed and that I had been on them for a long time (none of them addictive or controlled substances, so obviously I wasn't just trying to get high). First, the receptionist (who claimed to be a doctor) told me that my insurance required a deductible. I KNOW that I had surpassed my deductible for the year because I've been to doctors all year without this problem. Then, she told me she would take my insurance but tried to charge me the maximum co-pay. After all of this, the receptionist (claiming to be a doctor) and the actual Dr. Patel locked me in a room (seriously, I couldn't get out and she blocked the door) while they explained to me that they would not write me my medications for various reasons, none of them legit. WORST experience ever. I ended up in the ER later in the day because of their incompetence. read more

DO NOT GO HERE-BAD IDEA. This so called doctor is a con artist. My father went here because he needed to check out a bite on his finger he got from a cat and he has health insurance from medicare (he's retired). Prior to the visit with the doctor he asked what the cost would be with health insurance at the doctor's office. The receptionist told him to not worry about it and he was led to a room with the doctor. After speaking with the doctor (BARELY- less than a minute) the doctor then went to DEMAND about $150 cash from my father. Keep in mind he has health coverage, when he inquired about the cash cost, the receptionist began to explain about his deductible and WHILE my father was listening to her speak, the doctor the proceeded to INTERRUPT in a threatening manner to demand that my father pay the money immediately and made it clear that he wouldn't let my father leave without payment. After reading the other negative reviews, I can truly say this office is bullshit and filled with nothing but con artists. I will be making a strong complaint and letting medicare, AMA, and others know what this doctor is doing, and looking into legal matters. My father is a retired man who is nice to everyone and can only speak spanish so it takes him a bit longer to understand others. To see him being taken advantage of by an asshole of a doctor is more than upsetting. I hope this place closes down because many patients that come to this office are under medicare/medicaid and they should not be facing this sort of behavior from a medical doctor. I can't begin to understand what the doctor was going to do, have him arrested for not paying?? Hit him?? This doctor is unprofessional and unethical and should not be allowed to practice. Why did he have to threaten my father? A medical doctor should not be treating any patients this way. UNETHICAL. And on top of that medicare says we didn't need to pay anything-that's another story. The only thing good about going to Dr.Patel's office is the location. Unfortunately the doctor is the worst one I've ever met. He has done many unethical things this past year and finally he pushed me too far and I've left. He did me a favor this time when he refused to fill 2 health forms, each requiring 2 dates, for 2 companies I was seeking employment with. He said I had to come twice because the form required "physical exam". He said he would be doing something illegal if he didn't do a physical exam. That's true. But the fact remains that one physical exam can be used to fill out 2 employer forms on the same day. I had to bring my son after school and he made me come again the next morning at 7am. I checked with the insurance company and other doctor's offices and all confirmed that the same physical exam could be used to fill multiple employer forms. Imagine if I had applied to 20 jobs, I would have to go see him for a month Mon-Fri. Never going back. He tries every way of getting you to come for blood tests, other checkups in the back room, and wants you to come back to follow up. At the follow up he just bills it and tells you nothing. The last time I was there for a signature that I was fit for volunteer work, he did not touch me, but told his staff "put it as a physical". And that's all he cares about. Routine billing as "physical". Insurance should look into this, call his patients and verify. The only patients that like him are the ones that are new or the ones that do not understand what is going on, as they have a lot of time and they trust too easily. read more
