I am originally from Costa Rica and met John two and a half years ago. We did the long distance for quite a while until we decided to get married at Manhattan City Hall (actually it is Office of the City Clerk!). John and I decided to have a very intimate wedding (only moms and siblings with their plus one) therefore the photos were not only going to be a memento for us but actually the wedding for the majority of relatives and friends in Costa Rica and the US!
With all this in mind, and with only ONE month to plan, I had to find a photographer with the following qualities:
1. that I could find thru the internet, because I don't have a lot of contacts or people that could give me reference (I am starting anew!).
2. photojournalistic style...and I am VERY picky...I didn't want really posed photos, we wanted to keep it real and tasteful.
3. someone that could blend in smoothly into every step, a photographer that would capture the moments without "interrupting" the fluidity of the wedding
4. comply with a budget...
5. knowledge of city hall weddings since the ceremony only takes like three minutes and the space is limited.
6. flexible, because we wanted to have a small ceremony of our own outside the Office and then a gathering at a restaurant.
7. creative/unique so that we didn't have to give him a list of what photos and how we wanted them...
8. reliable...punctual, with his complete photographic equipment, no surprise fees, what you agreed upon is what you get!
9. copies of photographs in DVD and an album
Alex gave us this and so much more: the minute I first wrote to him he responded quickly. After that, every communication we had was prompt! Alex is very professional. Before we met I had done my homework and browsed at his website (www.fedorovfoto.com) and when we met and he showed us the albums, gave us a custom package according to our needs and we signed a formal agreement. With our limited budget we still got an engagement session. He suggested meeting one hour before the wedding so to do shots around the Office of the City Clerk, this was definitely better...with no relatives and still relaxed and very excited of what was coming! Alex stayed with us at the "reception" even though it was prolonged for various hours...He made portrait shots of everyone in the family and he didn't charge for the additional hours he spent with us...that was one of our main concerns since most photographers give you a package but charge you for every additional hour. We got our online photo gallery very promptly, if not, earlier than what we expected so we got to share, in a timely manner, the relevant moments with our relatives and friends that "missed" the live version! http://fedorovfoto.com/2011/05/vicky-john-wedding-nyc-city-hall/
What would I change?
I would have sent Alex our program in advance so that he understood what our ceremony was about because I did wanted some shots of specifics (we did various wedding traditions) but because our families stood very close together at the wedding garden he got part of it... other than this minor detail I would change NOTHING!
I am a great believer that coincidences don't exist. When we found Alex, or I would like to say, when his website jumped at me...there was no turning back. My husband John is a people person and when we met him we both knew he was our guy! Overall Alex is very polite, he understands his role and copes with you, meaning if you are open he starts to share if not he is reserved. We are latinos (John's mom and dad were born in Costa Rica) so in our case he had to open a lot!!! And we are so glad we met him not only in the professional level but as a friend!
In John's words "Best spent money"...for me a true investment! We know that these photos will be cherished for years to come and I was definitely going to hire around a budget but not photos I was going to like but photos I truly loved and was proud to show! I don't think we can thank Alex enough for making this unforgettable moment, unforgettable! The photos were our way of showing the rest of our relatives and all our friends of how AMAZING our wedding was and will be for us, it will be our way of spreading the LOVE! read more
