A vendor told me some figurines I was looking at were $20 a piece. When I showed her the price tag showing them marked as $15 for the set of 3, she pulled the tag off in front of me and repeated that they were $20 each. As a former dealer myself, this was completely inappropriate and I was shocked and dismayed. This will be my last year coming to this market.

In addition to vintage glassware, this is a treasure trove for retro kitchenwares (salt and pepper shakers, etc) and midcentury furniture. Even the outside of the shop is super rad, with bright red walls and a Mona Lisa sign. You can't miss it! Prices are a little higher than what you'd see at a Flea Market, but the shop is so well curated that I usually think they're worth it. The owner and her brother are super cool too, which makes it even more fun to support. Tip: If they shop is closed, try their sister shop, Arts District Antiques, across the street. The owners are usually in there and will open Garage Vintage for you.

It seems like one of those great neighbourhoods that has remained mostly untouched (uncorrupted). My favourite store in The Highlands is Wordshop. I haven't had a chance to hangout there as much as I would like to but each time I stop by Wordshop I check out a new shop like Ruby Jane, a super cool clothing store, that I resisted the urge to buy anything on this trip. (Trying to pack which means no more things but just for the moment.) The streets are original and therefore quite narrow so be sure to slow down and be courteous. Also, parking is a bit of a bear if you can I would Uber over to avoid the hassle. Go. Spend some money. Keep The Highlands thriving!

What's great about this strip is that in about 8 blocks, there is a whole condensed area of really…read morecool antique shops. Supposedly, this area is the epicenter of US Victorian antiques. It is cool to pursue these shops and find the old remnants of the Victorian age and the west. I have lived here for 19 years, and this strip has changed. Recently, there have been tons of little great restaurants popping up (Maria Empanada, Adelito), very cool little bars ( Black Crown), Coffee shops (Corvus roasters) and also, well, lots of pot shops- can't say much about those. Also a bit of a sketch factor that is cleaning up, but still sketchy especially around Iowa St & Herman's Hideaway. Vintage and thrift shops abound along this strip as well- a great destination for your 1980's collecting is Fifty Two 80's A Totally Awesome Shop. For your costume needs, try Regal Vintage. I avoid Flossy McGrews, and it may even be gone. Terrifying store. But that's the fun of it! The ARC thrift store is actually amazing- a true charity, well run, cleaner, well organized with awesome finds!! My favorites are the Scandinavian Antique Shop and El Paso Imports. Happy Antiquing!

Sticking tassels on a throw pillow and asking $95 is outrageous. Hanging plastic flowers/leaves on a string from a branch is not art. nor is gluing appliqués to a worn sweatshirt or jacket. Overpriced pottery and jewelry and way too many jewelry vendors! I will not return next year and neither should you.
